When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)
@tomtomttom Isn't it ironic that a very high percentage of black Americans praise the very book that justified their enslavement? That's what you call not investigating. That's what you call true ignorance.
@2eelShmeal Agreed. As a former Christian and a black American, I'm glad I did some basic investigating into this matter and know that both Christianity and islam practiced slavery and those who were generally taken in as slaves were black people. Neither of those religions said slavery was evil and wrong. Instead today you see people of those faiths making excuses for slavery. The worst argument I heard was, that was history, but we can still have it in our religious book. WHAT?????
@tomtomttom Hahahaha... Good one. lol ;) Thanks 4 the post. Good point on Islam as well. That shit's been going on for what? 2,000 yrs or something?.... But I also find it funny that no one really looks at the Spanish or Portuguese as racist when they were some of the top exporters in the slave trade.....Back to your point: Yeah, you would think they'd edit out the whole slavery thing in the modern versions and keep copies of the old shit in a museum....
Did I hear you say, "if I were God...?" That is why you are not. His ways are not our ways... If you snap out of your wishful thinking you might learn something from the good Book. If I were.. is the anthem of wishful thinkers who get nothing done.
OK... But seriously...... think about it.....be objective for a moment. Are we to believe that the same Being who created dna, universes, galaxies, nuclear fusion and consciousness itself cannot make His own holy book? Why rely on the fallibility of humans to write such an important document? Being that God never shows Himself, nothing could be more important to people's faith than the only "proof" of God's existence, the bible. So why? Man created God. Man must also write His book.
dude you make sense. everyday sense , the sense of the guy next door. youre riught. remeber, god is a source of unlimited power. so why wouldnt his book glow, why wouldnt it instantly reveal all its secrets to you? talking donkeys?
thanks.. Yeah.. none of it makes any sense. If you were God, would you allow such horrible books to be believed by your prized creations that you love so much? Most of the religious really don't question anything. If they would only READ their bible and stop being so lazy, none of them could believe it. But the only parts they hear are the ones their pastor has selected for them: OK now lets turn to psalms 9 verse whatever...And the people do it mindlessly w/o reading the rest.
It has always been. No matter how far science can go back in time (presumeably to the "Big Bang"). What as there before that. Empty space? Even empty space is something. Also what caused the big bang? There has to be a "Prime Mover". The one who is, always was and will always be and that my friend is God! The pudding is Time and the proof is all of creation!
TY 4 your POV. I think your points are more appropriate for another discussion. This discussion assumes there IS a god. (devil's advocate) The question is why would God use such a shoddy book to convey His message? As I say in the vid- a perfect god would necessarily have a perfect book Any religious book you can think of is full of holes, contradictions and outright falsehoods. The holy books are written in a way that leaves much up to interpretation.I'm just saying:Is that the best he can do?

Why, why, why do you pose the question with a WHO attached? What makes you think it was a WHO? What makes you think it was created at all? Even your God requires no beginning right? Maybe the universe is eternal.
By posing the question with a who, you have already influenced the answer. You see, you think you're slick and you have it all figured out. Well guess what? You don't know shit. Anyone can ask a completely baseless question like a parrot.
He did provide us with other means of discerning his existence. We have all of creation as proof. He gave us Jesus! His only Son which he sacrificed for our sins. The ultimate Love. John 3:16. The universe which has no beginning even science can agree to that.
yep they are out there. But keep in mind that even intelligent people are susceptible to brainwashing at an early age. I consider myself of fair intelligence and I was caught in the grips of dogma too. It's just hard to shake. I feel bad for the religious because I remember what it was like. You are taught that forming a question is to doubt and to doubt is a big no no. I was in fear to doubt because god could read my mind. It's child abuse and thought control. Thats why people sound nuts.
I'm thinking about going back to school to study the psychological process that makes people believe weird things. There are just too many believers out there. I am sure one can make money exploiting that mental predisposition. IF YOU CAN'T CHANGE THEM, USE THEM!
Religious leaders figured that out a long time ago. Why do you think they call their followers sheep?...lol They've knowingly been exploiting that mental predisposition as long people can remember.
Ok, now step outside yourself and be objective for once. You say God created man and saw that we were fucked up. so then He sent a flood to kill all of us save 1 family and their wives. The perfect family. He then promised never to do it again and created the rainbow in case He forgot. Time went by and again He saw we were fucked up so He split Himself in 3 and sent 1/3 down to be slaughtered and that makes it all better? Really, do you believe this?
This story (theholybible) can be changed every year, maybe even every week. It all started with a little fairy tale i think, and it became a bigger, and bigger story.
The statement on how the author of this video would make the Bible is funny and absurd. Just the way they promote it implies that there is no need to even write a book.
You know, you nailed it!! You are exactly right! Why would an all-powerful God even need a book in the first place?!
Why have I never thought of this before?! Damn Rock, do you realize that you're a friggin' genius?!
Of course! Well, .. he supposedly hears all our prayers simultaneously, right? So why not just tell us directly his word and commands? Why in the hell (oops) would he need a stupid book? He created it all right? So why not just say HI once in a while?
I've seen this statement before: it's the same kind when one wishes for something that they already have. Indeed, it makes no sense. Why want something that you don't want? Why ask for something that you don't want to receive (after receiving it)? It's self contradicting. If you're going to respond to me again, i hope to see something that isn't self contradicting.
If actions should be committed based on necessity, then He would not need to inform us of anything. Indeed, we could just go on living in ignorance for the rest of our lives. But that's the whole point: Why did He choose to interact with something that bears no significance so that it may bear significance when there was no need for Him to do so? In cases like this, it matters not how He interacts, but that He has interacted.
If any all-powerful being wanted to communicate with humans, it would have made its book perfect, and not in need of translation. Every person who read it would do so in his/her own language. Hey, god is magic, no? The books we do have have all been translated into many languages and copied countless times by human scribes who probably dozed off as I would writing down all those boring "begats." There are NO originals of ANY of the books of the bible, whether it be old or new testament. 5*
God used humans to write the books of the Bible. We see the author's personality and humanity in their writing. We also see their intended audiences. The Bible does stand out from other works, in many ways.
