This scene is about an event in Laos. It still keeps relatively large forest area in S-E Asia. Day by day we are aware of our world due to dramatic atmospheric heating. The General cuts natural forest, has 'private' zoo of animals due to the cutting, and takes care of some minorities that live on highlands. Since Laos is one of the poorest countries, only natural logs are its main product to support national budget. We know well how many years a pine needs to get tall to the size to be cut.

I would like to express three points: 1-Everywhere wood logs are Gold. Human beings stop cutting because no more log to cut. 2- The general is like symbol, here may be bad one. But, these golden logs are partially for Hmong and Yao. How many other Lao in Sekong, Attopeu, and other regions...that have no chance to get basic education?. 3- Some highlanders may see that highlands assure their identity. But, Peace should be restored.

I personally resent the narrator's bias comment about the General. The animals was rescued by the General for purpose of conservation. The wildlife sanctuary that the General found and funded is certainly not his personal zoo as the Narrator would like us to believe.

LaoPeoplesArmy, the General is native of around Kengkok of my region. It is hard to make balance between exploitation of natural forest and conservation of animals. This is not only the General problem, but also of the world community that is aware of natural conservation. Hence, outside world should give assistance rather than critism.

I agree with you but also, don't forget USA isn't the best country for the laotian to look up to. Remember what the USA have left behind after the war. If they were great, they would have assumed responsability and helped laos. Instead they have turned their backs on the country and left them with the mess. I live in the USA in a place where a lot of logging is going on, Everyone is becoming sick because of the Chemical that are being dumped on our families, to grow more trees, MONO CROP TREE FARMS with is what happens after all the old tree's are removed. Having lived in Laos for three years myself, this footage really angered me. It very much sums up the Laos government I'm afraid and it is also the reason I did not want to stay in the country with my Lao husband and bring up my children. Why is nothing being done about this? This is a major human rights issue! Does anyone have the power to step in and stop this?
