I used this technique on my latest beat and this thing is amazing. Great video. People swear that I used a record but I am like nah its all in Reason. This just opened up a whole new world of production for me.
Why not just use a sample and use the pitch on your midi/keyboard for the volume?? Sounds just the same. You use the pitch wheel to cut the sample in and out.
hey ace. when i save my sound in .wav format in cool edit pro... recycle wont open it... dont know why... what program do you use for saving into wav format?
I have had the same question. Looks like the best way to do that is to buy recycle from propellerhead. you can import any sample into this program and cut it up into slics then import it as a MIDI file to be played in one of the samplers or as a D REX file. There are a lot of other videos on here that show how to do this.
Hey I bet you could, bro. You can come pretty close with the fruity scratcher in FL Studio - and hey the Numark CDX and HDX are solid digital decks if you like doing line-in.
How do I record a loop that does not enclude the beat pattern. I have copyed patterns to the track but it still records the redrum througout the loop i am sure it is a easy solution please advise thanks.
ok, this isnt funny...too damn clever man...If I was you I would contact Reason and become like an official representative/user guy...can u do a hip-hop tutorial? Like make a swizz beats style beat in 10 mins, using sampling, a little synth fx etc etc
Hey man, just to let you know, you can effect the sample start/end points even when its played backward, but they're reversed! Sample end effects sample start and vice versa.
Good call! That is much easier. The reason I didn't is because in the Backwards samples I tend to exaggerate the pitch effect, and it's easier to just have one set of controls, since it's not always set to an even octave.
Nah, the idea hit me to use the MOD env this way at about midnight, while I was trying to sleep. I had to get up and try it out. At first I was using Sustain, but decay made it easier to manip. the backwards notes. That was when I started messing with the Sample Start and experimenting with backwards samples. After a few minutes, I had a few methods and tutorial material.
Thanks. Would it help if I made a tutorial to explain the "Envelopes"? I'm quite familiar with how they function, and this tutorial used them in a way that was probably hard to understand if you don't know what the envelope does.

why not simply buy a 12" and scratch it?!
supercucci 2 years ago
no offence but using the pitch wheel does all the work for ya..good vid tho
jonnylox 2 years ago 3
Using the pitch wheel, even after mapping MIDI, is a bit unreliable. But it can work to some degree.

Do you know how to Loop a beat pattern on FL 5? i tried using the recorded to export it but i cant save a longer beat the 13-15 seconds.
rdogg77 4 years ago
I would suggest playing the pattern in song mode. Just draw the pattern out on the playlist so it repeats a few times.

if i wanted to import some audio outside of reason how would i do that?
Carameltrade 4 years ago
Save your samples as .Wav format, and open them in either the NN-XT or NN-19. Do this by choosing "Browse Samples" instead of "Browse Patches"!

Thank you so much

Matija10 3 years ago
I depends on what kind of .wav you saved it as. ReCycle only takes the Windows PCM type

whats dis NN-XT?? is it better than FL? doesn't really look like much tho... tell me about it
BasicNewb 4 years ago
It's similar to and as good as FL's Directwave, but it doesn't have the option to download new material.

Uncheck the button on the face of the redrum called "Enable Pattern Section"

johnnyluke 4 years ago
right, but there's no velocity control for sample end. so it doesn't work for my purpose.
AcePincter 4 years ago
You know, instead of raising or lowering the octave by changing the root key, you just simply change the octave in the pitch field
