I'm a Ford fan. I was looking for a loaded Lincoln MKS and wasn't planning on even looking at Cadillac. But I thought I better widen my scope to be fair. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus... then I drove a CTS4 and never looked back. Very happy.
BTW, just wanted to say I loved your comment "ashleydawn 1986"! I was thinking the exact same thing after reading that her boyfriend crashed her new Cadillac for her! Then I read your comment.....hahhaha made me laugh! Wow dude you better hold on to her....she is a keeper for sure! Not to many women would be that understanding after almost killing her and destroying her expensive ride at the same time!! All I can say is she must reeeeaaaalllly love you man!? LOL Just joking OK :)
I guess I just wanted to give props to Cadillac for finally building a car of this caliber! And yes I would buy one if not for only one thing? Its price tag! :( It sucks being blue collar in this new supercar world!! LOL Seems everyone is building their own brand of supercar anymore? Its as if the car world has gone supercar crazy!! Im not complaining? Im just depressed I can't have one for myself? :( Anyone want to seek pity on me and donate one to me?? :) Hahahaaa NOT!!!
At the time I was in my 2004 Type "R" Civic turbo Hatchback. A very fast car to say the least. However I don't think I would have stood a chance against this thing just from looking at it? Then I went home and did some research and found out this thing is putting down 500 plus HP to the ground! OMG I WANT ONE! GIMME GIMME! LOL . Needless to say that thing would have ran away from my Type "R" Civic! Don't get me wrong I am a total Honda nut obviously?
All I can say is "Holy Banana Peals Batman!" LOL. First thing you notice on this ride is its much bigger wheels with higher performance low profile tires! And immediatly starring you in the face through those spinning wheels are huge rotors with massive six piston brakes! With its low stance and huge wheels and brakes along with rather large duel exhaust, you know immediatly from looking at it that this car is no joke!
Still dont understand why they thought they needed to get into the lower priced midsized market in the first place? My guess is for the money like any other car manufacturer? But finally it looks as though they learned from their mystakes! I personally love the looks of the new CTS! Although the front does appear a bit overly busy in a way? Then I recently seen the latest offering out on the interstate, the newest CTS-V!
I never used to be that big of Caddy fan? They were never really known for being a high performance car but rather a super comfy luxery cruiser. Which they have always delivered on when it came to style and comfort for the most part? Im not referring to some of Caddy's mystake midsized and under powered crap boxes they tried to pass off in past years?
@TheMRamStaff: This car gets very good gas mileage for its class, so you're speaking w/o having done any research. The CTS gets poor mileage compared to what? If you have a long commute, then get a Ford Fusion Hybrid or the new Chevy Volt that's coming out.
I really want a CTS-V, but don't feel like having a $600+ month car payment nor putting more than 20% down on a car; rather leverage the bebt and write-off thru work. The regular CTS looks better in 2011 with the new wheel options and accessories, so may go that route.
@chltmdwp I didn't like the new look at first; It took a bit for it to grow on me...but now I like the new look so much more than the old one. The first-gen seems outdated now.
Well as he said "Could this be the car that brings Detroit to the next level?" It definitely has! And this is what has started it. Well for Cadillac at least. This, as well as the other Cadillacs is absolutely AMAZING.
I see an interesting linkage between Toyota's recent downfall and their offering of competitive product in the luxury segment. We'll always see the BMW 3/5 vs CTS argument, but one thing we don't see is IS vs CTS. The IS offers one of the weakest base engines in the entry luxury segment. A 2.5 liter engine with a paltry 184 lb-ft of torque? Please....Lexus.....get out.
If one thing can be learned from this, it's that Lexus is a non competitive legacy brand.
Not being bias but the FE3 CTS outhandles and outstops the BMW 535. Not being bias just stating facts. Ill give you the fact the 535 is quicker in a straight line but it is outclassed in every other performace category.
4 year older. The Cadillac came out in 2008. Reputation means nothing in tangible measureable performance numbers. The CTS has more grip, shorter stopping distances etc etc etc. If you are unconvinced by 4<5 then so be it. BTW the BMW 535i gets one mpg less in the city 17 opposed to 18 and they get the same MPG on the freeway 26-26. The BMW is LESS economical than the Cadillac. Again, sorry just facts not being biased.
You know that mpg ratings are very innacurate right? There are lots of different driving styles that people have. How much miles per gallon you get is very dependant on a driver.
Of course but unfortunately there has to be at least some standard measurment and that measurement gives the CTS better mileage. However, that being said the EPA window stickers also give you a real world estimate, giving both low and high figures that a person could get "real world" under driving conditions etc and yet again the CTS has the superior mileage in both the low and high ranges. It is the more economical vehicle.
I wasn't calling you biased, and i didn't rate your comment in any way.
I guess it depends on your Cultural preference. For example, in the small, curvy city streets in the UK (and some other nations) mpg comparisons might be a little more critical when driving around. While on the long, widespread roads typical in the United States the MPG numbers are slightly more distorted. Small cultural variations like that can have effect on your view guess.
The said the 335i didn't have as much power when it pretty much does. If he'd compared the cts to the 550i the caddi would of looked bad because the caddi is 6 years newer has similar mpg figures and is slower and the new 550i is clearly better in stats. Top Gear gives bad reviews.
Barely?? 25% more power and better economy from a heavier car, I'd say the new 550i is a sure winner. The M5 does about 22 mpg, your over patriotic. Only Americans drool over American cars. Germany all the way. Caddi is just a poor copy of Mercedes. If I had to buy American it would be a Chevy or an old skool muscle car.
You can't event 16 cylinders. The Germans invented the car. Its not all to do with power. Your just over patriotic. America is good at alot of things, just not cars. Thats why they don't sell well over seas.
hey retarded !!!, the cts is not a competitor to the 5 series, because there is still the sts, but now you will say that the sts is a 7 series, but wait, theres still a dts. So my question is. Why you are so fucking retarded.
No one knows what it's true competitor is! thats why there is heated debate over 3 series or 5 series being the real competitor all the time. And plus, the cadillac cts is half an inch longer than the bmw 5 series, is only 0.2 inches narrower and the cts' wheel base is 0.3 inches shorter. So the cadillac cts is the 5 series competitor in size, but it is the 3 series competitor in price. Cars can have more than one competitor from a single company. Who's the retard now?
not even his daily driver and he hates it!!!!! it has been in the shop more than my 99 suzuki grand vitara & the wifes 1998 honda civic combined. it looks good though........
I like this guy. He talks like he learned everything by heart, but comparing the CTS to BMW 335i is absolutely ridiculous. First of all the 335i is a sporty mid-sized sedan, while the Caddie is a typcal American cruiser with bungy suspension.
Power output is 304 hp and 369 Nm for the tested CTS and 302 hp and 400 Nm for BMW 335i. Hence higher torque from BMW and I don't even compare handling, or quality of materials. Come on Ross, give us a break :)
Handling? Given that the CTS is the size of a 5 series and yet holds more lateral grip and can outbreak the 2008 BMW 335 sedan. Clearly by the numbers your comment about being a "cruiser with a bungy suspension" are outdated and spoken entirely out of preconceptions as opposed to reality. The quality of materials comment is right, you wouldn't want to compare the two; the CTS makes the BMW look downright cheap.
@BamFor07 wow thats a lot coming from someone that probably doesn't own a 528-e60. The bmw isn't cheap, have you actually hit the dashboard of some American cars, trust me i have an american suv downstairs, its incomparable to the bmw. It has plastic all over, but it comes at also looks good and has a nice view, but the materials are very......bad or okay(for lack of better word).
Yes the Cadillac has hit it here, very nice and deserves credit but its nowhere past the euros, competition yes.
Wow, in case you didn't notice the CTS is not an SUV. Also that is a big statement coming from somebody with an entry level 5 series. The CTS's interior is superior to both the 3 and 5 series. Ill bet that 528 has a "leathette" interior. Things change, drop the mentality that a company can't do something simply because of its name or past. The CTS has suprassed the Europeans in allot of mays and most certainly trumps a 528 in everything it does, EVERYTHING.
@BamFor07 american cars are alike, though not all, why go banging on some other cars. Yes the cts does deserve tons of credit and applause, i've always liked american cars and suvs. The materials are debatable in some, but they are affordable to many americans, while European cars are not. i start to hate them, because americans like you go banging on some other brands, saying it is better or not cheap. An entry level 5 series, loaded with all options isn't cheap letting, you know
I'm not "banging" on any car. My point is that credit is due here for besting BMW's interior. The CTS is in every way bascially a 535 for $10,000 dollars less. You can debate design etc but it is a fact that the interior materials are widely considered nicer than those in the BMW's it competes with.
yeah i know i was surprised when i saw the price of the car, too. Yes the cts has a nice interior, but i think of it as being overly crowded, with all the buttons and designs. There are so many lines throughout the dashboard, which seem to flow but are very confusing, my opinion. To me the caddilac is very comparable to a beemer, the exterior is exclusively Cadillac unlike other american luxury wannabes. Yes the materials in the new cts is great, but its competing with a an older gen.
@BamFor07 beemers usually last 5-6 years. The 7 series lasts 6-7 years. So im not sure which is which, either the 5 series is the same or older. When did this last generation of caddilac appear on sale?
I have a 2008 CTS that is a daily driver and a 2010 Jaguar XFR. Search my name "BamFor07" on cardomain. I am really not trying to "bang" on you car, its your car, its the one you picked and its cool that you like it. My point was that a 528 for the most part would be considered by most to not be as good as a performance vehicle as the CTS and in many ways maybe on par or slightly below a fully loaded CTS.
very true I sat in a few BMW 3/5 series @ the auto show today and for the price the interiors are not impressive at all. (in both design & materials used)
I had a 2010 CTS for a week and my boyfriend fell asleep at the wheel and hit an aboandoned car on the side of trhe road. The off-duty officer we passed said we passed him going 90 and accelerated into the parked esocort. Totalled my new CTS out. However, it was so safe and we were fine, so I have another one ordered.

What a piece of shit looking car. Americans have no sense of style whatsoever!
No wonder American car makers are lagging behind and losing sales to Japanese and European car makers. Who wants to buy ugly looking pug cars like these?
i'm guessing you're just another american car hating idiot who trashes every american car out there.
cts is a gorgeous car. look at the exterior and interior. audi's and bmw interior is ok but nowhere near this and i owned an audi A4. i'd pick the CTS before any european car (of course, in the same class). and by the way, I am a European and always driven European cars.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is NOT a 'gorgeous' car. Its big, bulky and brash with NO regard for asthetics.
Just like the Escalade and many other American luxury cars, its big, chunky and full of useless bling. The car has no soul, no subtety and no sense of style. Is it any wonder why Americans keep falling behind other car markers in the world?
I currently drive a MB E320 which unfortunately has not been as reliable as my prior E sedans. The CTS is def on my short list of next auto and will most likely be my next vehicle.
"The needless technological snobbery that plagues just about every German sedan on the market today."
Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm thinking about picking up one of these myself. I realize after a trip to the family reunion where everybody flew in and I drove my Cobra. I became the unofficial taxi for the reunion. That's when I realize it was time for a bigger car.
The 08 CTS w/6-speed and the 304hp looks like the right car for me plus I get to keep my Cobra and Saleen.
*lolz* think the driver od'ed on "America the beautiful" before doing this review. Either that, or he had been handed a shitload of money to say what he did.
Before anyone gets going: i know. The CTS handles okay. There is however a reason to why it's competing with smaller cars in it's pricerange: It's build like a cheaper car, and you can feel it.
But let's hope mr National Anthem is right about it being a sign of things to come.
The Sondergard seems to be the latest from a Danish designer. Don't know if it's out just yet, I would imagine that the designer is waiting for the american created worlwide financiel crisis to be over.
But you do have a point. We have rules on how little you can pay a worker, so it's a bit harder to produce here in Denmark. We've still had our share of projects though, and we have several designers out there as well. The name Henrik Fisker probably rings a bell, or at least it should.
Point is that the Danes have next to 0 automotive history or automotive contributions. Put quite simply The Danish automotive industry is next to non existant.
It is completely valid, you obviously didn't get my point. It is easy to heap criticism on "the man in the arena" when you stand idle yourself (Danes).
BamFor: Let me paint you a picture: When you're looking for a car, you compare the carmakers, and some specific models in your pricerange. This comparison is done by any carbuyer, and has nothing to do with which country he lives in, or if this country makes cars.
An example: The Japanese have the overall highest rating for reliability, the Germans for building cars that feel expensive.
Everyone considers these facts and more. Hope you're able to understand this very simple and obvious point.
Yawn, you simply do not understand. Oh well that is your problem. Paint away, you are still just critisizing based on your own biased perception, did you understand this very simple and obvious point? You are also just critisizing for the sheer sake of doing so ie critisizing the "man in the arena" while you and your countrymen do nothing in the way of the car industry, completely 0, are you understanding this very simple and obvious point. Denmark is a non issue in the auto world get over it.
Bamfor: I'm getting bored. You rly don't wanna understand what i'm saying. Don't know why, actually don't care. Believe whatever you want about me. Again: i don't care.
I'm not the one having to explain to myself why it is the american car builders have had such a hard time, and the fact that american car reviewers now a days keep going on about how the quality is improved everytime they review a new american car. How it starts to feel more like a european car.
Yawn, I done trying to explain to a simpleton like you. If you don't think the quality has improved then you obviously do not know anything about cars and are just another auto dilettante.
nah, it's build quality is exceptionally good. I can feel the quality, and trust me I would know. Rant on with your bullshit, you're just another person driving a Toyota Camry
Tha3ha1og0d: Actually no. The Camry's big market is the US. Overhere it's considered boring. Okay, it's romoured to be a heck of a lot better than the run of the mill american car, but still.. The Camry is a car for americans, and old european ppl (and not a lot of them either).
I have to add: When talking about the lack of quality, i inadvertently got something mixed up. I was talking about the old CTS, not this the newer one. Don't know if this one is better.
Just bought this Car ! 3.6L V6 Direct Injection - Absolute Dream to Drive, and it's Planted around Corners ! Not like some other Cars from Across the pond !

It does not do 'far' more for the Gallon, and the CTS isn't even a direct competeter of the BMW, yet the price is reasonable compared to it.

Haha the new series barely beat it in Performance and the CTS with its high torque at low rpms along with that new CVT tranmission gets better MPG's.
CTSV need I say more.
Faster in every way than an m5.
Fully Loaded CTSV still cheaper than a base M5. And the CTSV's warranty is far superior as well.
The only reason the M5 costs more is for the Badge. If you wanna pay more for a badge and less warranty and less features then go ahead.

Barely?? 25% more power and better economy from a heavier car, I'd say the new 550i is a sure winner. The M5 does about 22 mpg, your over patriotic. Only Americans drool over American cars. Germany all the way. Caddi is just a poor copy of Mercedes. If I had to buy American it would be a Chevy or an old skool muscle car.
cashw55 1 year ago
Haha you ignorant Brit, Does Britain have one all British company left? Nope
M5 22? We are talking miles not kilometers.
If you did your research Caddy knows what they're doing, one of the 1st cars ever to have a v12 and the INVENTORS of the 16 cylinder engine.
Also the Look up the Cadillac Sixteen and Cien showcase cars of Caddilac's engineering and technological capabilties.
They plan on using that 7.5 liter 750HP V12 from the cien in the Bentley killing XTSV crying wont stop them.
Greendude33 1 year ago
You can't event 16 cylinders. The Germans invented the car. Its not all to do with power. Your just over patriotic. America is good at alot of things, just not cars. Thats why they don't sell well over seas.
cashw55 1 year ago
Well they were the very first to make the 16cylinder engine and the first high volume user of the v12.
I never said all American cars were good but some are like the newer Cadillac's and they deserve credit where credit is due.
Greendude33 1 year ago
hey retarded !!!, the cts is not a competitor to the 5 series, because there is still the sts, but now you will say that the sts is a 7 series, but wait, theres still a dts. So my question is. Why you are so fucking retarded.
mots666 1 year ago
No one knows what it's true competitor is! thats why there is heated debate over 3 series or 5 series being the real competitor all the time. And plus, the cadillac cts is half an inch longer than the bmw 5 series, is only 0.2 inches narrower and the cts' wheel base is 0.3 inches shorter. So the cadillac cts is the 5 series competitor in size, but it is the 3 series competitor in price. Cars can have more than one competitor from a single company. Who's the retard now?

I like this guy. He talks like he learned everything by heart, but comparing the CTS to BMW 335i is absolutely ridiculous. First of all the 335i is a sporty mid-sized sedan, while the Caddie is a typcal American cruiser with bungy suspension.
Power output is 304 hp and 369 Nm for the tested CTS and 302 hp and 400 Nm for BMW 335i. Hence higher torque from BMW and I don't even compare handling, or quality of materials. Come on Ross, give us a break :)
fakta99 2 years ago
BamFor07 1 year ago
@BamFor07 wow thats a lot coming from someone that probably doesn't own a 528-e60. The bmw isn't cheap, have you actually hit the dashboard of some American cars, trust me i have an american suv downstairs, its incomparable to the bmw. It has plastic all over, but it comes at also looks good and has a nice view, but the materials are very......bad or okay(for lack of better word).
Yes the Cadillac has hit it here, very nice and deserves credit but its nowhere past the euros, competition yes.
LarchaicL1 1 year ago
Wow, in case you didn't notice the CTS is not an SUV. Also that is a big statement coming from somebody with an entry level 5 series. The CTS's interior is superior to both the 3 and 5 series. Ill bet that 528 has a "leathette" interior. Things change, drop the mentality that a company can't do something simply because of its name or past. The CTS has suprassed the Europeans in allot of mays and most certainly trumps a 528 in everything it does, EVERYTHING.
BamFor07 1 year ago
@BamFor07 american cars are alike, though not all, why go banging on some other cars. Yes the cts does deserve tons of credit and applause, i've always liked american cars and suvs. The materials are debatable in some, but they are affordable to many americans, while European cars are not. i start to hate them, because americans like you go banging on some other brands, saying it is better or not cheap. An entry level 5 series, loaded with all options isn't cheap letting, you know
LarchaicL1 1 year ago
I'm not "banging" on any car. My point is that credit is due here for besting BMW's interior. The CTS is in every way bascially a 535 for $10,000 dollars less. You can debate design etc but it is a fact that the interior materials are widely considered nicer than those in the BMW's it competes with.
BamFor07 1 year ago
@BamFor7
yeah i know i was surprised when i saw the price of the car, too.
LarchaicL1 1 year ago
I get what your saying but have to point out that the CTS was introduced during year 3 of the 5 series. Product cycles generally last 5-7 years.
BamFor07 1 year ago
@BamFor07 beemers usually last 5-6 years. The 7 series lasts 6-7 years. So im not sure which is which, either the 5 series is the same or older. When did this last generation of caddilac appear on sale?
LarchaicL1 1 year ago
may also ask you what you have in your garage?
LarchaicL1 1 year ago
I have a 2008 CTS that is a daily driver and a 2010 Jaguar XFR. Search my name "BamFor07" on cardomain. I am really not trying to "bang" on you car, its your car, its the one you picked and its cool that you like it. My point was that a 528 for the most part would be considered by most to not be as good as a performance vehicle as the CTS and in many ways maybe on par or slightly below a fully loaded CTS.
BamFor07 1 year ago
very true I sat in a few BMW 3/5 series @ the auto show today and for the price the interiors are not impressive at all. (in both design & materials used)

What a piece of shit looking car. Americans have no sense of style whatsoever!
No wonder American car makers are lagging behind and losing sales to Japanese and European car makers. Who wants to buy ugly looking pug cars like these?
JDubs878 2 years ago
i'm guessing you're just another american car hating idiot who trashes every american car out there.
cts is a gorgeous car. look at the exterior and interior. audi's and bmw interior is ok but nowhere near this and i owned an audi A4. i'd pick the CTS before any european car (of course, in the same class). and by the way, I am a European and always driven European cars.

JDubs878 2 years ago

But let's hope mr National Anthem is right about it being a sign of things to come.
jo05dk 2 years ago
I would imagine you would find allot of people who would respectfully disagree with you, I know. So when is the next Danish luxury car coming out?
BamFor07 2 years ago
The Sondergard seems to be the latest from a Danish designer. Don't know if it's out just yet, I would imagine that the designer is waiting for the american created worlwide financiel crisis to be over.
But you do have a point. We have rules on how little you can pay a worker, so it's a bit harder to produce here in Denmark. We've still had our share of projects though, and we have several designers out there as well. The name Henrik Fisker probably rings a bell, or at least it should.
jo05dk 2 years ago
Point is that the Danes have next to 0 automotive history or automotive contributions. Put quite simply The Danish automotive industry is next to non existant.
BamFor07 2 years ago
Bamford: That's besides the point. An invalid way of trying to counter a critism.
jo05dk 2 years ago
It is completely valid, you obviously didn't get my point. It is easy to heap criticism on "the man in the arena" when you stand idle yourself (Danes).
BamFor07 2 years ago
BamFor: Let me paint you a picture: When you're looking for a car, you compare the carmakers, and some specific models in your pricerange. This comparison is done by any carbuyer, and has nothing to do with which country he lives in, or if this country makes cars.
An example: The Japanese have the overall highest rating for reliability, the Germans for building cars that feel expensive.
Everyone considers these facts and more. Hope you're able to understand this very simple and obvious point.
jo05dk 2 years ago
Yawn, you simply do not understand. Oh well that is your problem. Paint away, you are still just critisizing based on your own biased perception, did you understand this very simple and obvious point? You are also just critisizing for the sheer sake of doing so ie critisizing the "man in the arena" while you and your countrymen do nothing in the way of the car industry, completely 0, are you understanding this very simple and obvious point. Denmark is a non issue in the auto world get over it.
BamFor07 2 years ago
Bamfor: I'm getting bored. You rly don't wanna understand what i'm saying. Don't know why, actually don't care. Believe whatever you want about me. Again: i don't care.
I'm not the one having to explain to myself why it is the american car builders have had such a hard time, and the fact that american car reviewers now a days keep going on about how the quality is improved everytime they review a new american car. How it starts to feel more like a european car.
It's all coincidents i guess..
jo05dk 2 years ago
Yawn, I done trying to explain to a simpleton like you. If you don't think the quality has improved then you obviously do not know anything about cars and are just another auto dilettante.
BamFor07 2 years ago
nah, it's build quality is exceptionally good. I can feel the quality, and trust me I would know. Rant on with your bullshit, you're just another person driving a Toyota Camry
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
Tha3ha1og0d: Actually no. The Camry's big market is the US. Overhere it's considered boring. Okay, it's romoured to be a heck of a lot better than the run of the mill american car, but still.. The Camry is a car for americans, and old european ppl (and not a lot of them either).
I have to add: When talking about the lack of quality, i inadvertently got something mixed up. I was talking about the old CTS, not this the newer one. Don't know if this one is better.
