Really great to know that this music is being sung regularly down there! Thanks for posting this & other songs. If it's OK, I'll send a response demonstrating what another comment called 'Texas style.' (Actually, recorded in Illinois.)
Thanks folks. We might indeed try it Texas-style one day.
For this singing we were stuck in the youth-group clubhouse, because our usual church hall was being renovated. It's a bit sobering to hear ourselves in a non-reverberating room.
Sounds great! If you want to mix it up, in Texas, we sing it a bit slower and sing the first verse of Amazing Grace (...how sweet the sound, that saved...) (to this tune of course), the regular first verse as written, then end it with the last verse of Amazing Grace (when we've been there 10,000 years), repeat on the last. Try it sometime, Texas style! haha
Ok, so maybe it's not exclusively "texas-style" to sing it as I described. It's just that it was a texas singer that sang it that way the first time I heard it. And actually, we say it's HIS-style here. I just didn't want to name names on YouTube so I said texas-style. haha I'm sure other areas sing it that way too.
Man, I hope I get to make a trip over there sometime and get to sing with you guys!!! What a blast that would be!
Actually it came from Alabama. That is my cousin in Texas that "sings" it like our grandmother said it was the way that Hallelujah should be sung. All of our family sings it that way. "Try it, you'll like it!"
How awesome to see and hear beautiful Sacred Harp music coming from Australia!!! The only thing missing, though, is volume! Sing your hearts out!
