@dht23 Yes I recently learned from the recent edition of Opera News actually, that the princess lost an eye in a duel at a young age or something like that :D
Thanks a lot Onegin65. You are one of my favourite uploaders on youtube because of videos like this one. I absolutely love Troyanos. To me, she's the ideal Eboli because she's one of the few mezzos who had a voice agile enough sing this light aria (thanks to her being used to singing Mozart) and, at the same time, powerful enough to sing the very dramatic and heavy "Oh Don fatale".
Love her @4:27-4:35. Troyanos nailed the very Spanish essence of the ornament. What a wonderfully warm, passionate, mysterious and...sensual Eboli. I'd say Carlo missed out on some good lovin'.
omg...this is absolutely my favourite version of ebolis veil song...still very lamented tatiana as great as ever!! what an artist...hard to believe that such a singer died so early....all the better that there are people who remember her and share videos with (younger) generations who could not see her live!! thank you, onegin 65!
This is the way it should be. Historically, La Princesa de Eboli had only one eye, which made her even more misterious in the already misterious Spanish Court of Philip de Habsburg. !Bravo Tatiana!
Penso che la Troyanos sia uno dei più grandi mezzosoprani di tutti i tempi. Che tenuta vocale, che musicalità, che tecnica e che straordinaria bravura d'interprete!
This is a grave moment disguised in singing and dancing. Troyanos tells the story! Her vocal authority gives an impression of Mohammed as he walks into the garden is incredible. He pursues her, but she is not comfortable even if flattered. The tempi, legato, urgency is not sweet but very serious, oh my, the consequences. This is what a real Eboli might have felt, not at all relaxed and cute -- this interpretation is tinged with worry and its flawless.
Brava! This the first time I've heard Troyanos' veil song. She sings it like she does everything else...with brilliance, passion and soul. What a sumptuous voice.
she misses the orchestra in the version freni-bumbry, bery dull when she mentions that the king is coming into scene after carlo and elisabetta duet... in fact i think tebaldo should be replaced for a lady-in-waiting!
C'è qualcosa che questa strepitosa cantante non sa cantare? MAGNIFICA!

Eboli actually wears an eyepatch in this Don Carlo production?
And I thought Bumbry had an eye infection in the Met DVD lol
Drelnis 1 year ago
@Drelnis Acctually its based off of a portrait of the real Princess Eboli, she did wear an eyepatch strangely enough.

what is with her eye??

The real life Princess Eboli (Ana de Mendoza
y de la Cerda) wore an eyepatch. There's an
actual portrait of her showing this. Check
Troyanos in "O Don Fatale" - she tears it off
while she's cursing her beauty. Great drama!
My favorite Eboli.

Thank you for the answer :) I have already read a little about the real Eboli. But at first I was surprised:)
