Nice to see a conductor who doesnt make random moves with his arms, but really enjoys himself :). Together with this music = I am heaven. That is probably what Bach intended. So mission accomplished for Bach and Harnoncourt :D
Chor Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben Muß von Christo Zeugnis geben Ohne Furcht und Heuchelei, Daß er Gott und Heiland sei. Part One 2. Rezitativ T Gebenedeiter Mund! Maria macht ihr Innerstes der Seelen Durch Dank und Rühmen kund; Sie fänget bei sich an, Des Heilands Wunder zu erzählen, Was er an ihr als seiner Magd getan. Bach and Harnoncourt have been part of my life's most important moments for the last 30 years. This music conncets directly with the soul of us, the Basques.

Where is the Bach of our day to compose the score of our interactions with each other and the Earth; one with so much beauty, skill, harmonious counterpoint, and purpose?
@hymnistic Perhaps because Bach was composing the score of our interactions with God. Our interactions with each other and the Earth are warlike, selfish and destructive. There is little beauty to be found there and thus no "Bach of our day" to compose beautiful, skillful harrmonious counterpoint with that purpose.
Es ist nicht nur eine gute Musik, die Bach komponierte, sondern der Text fordert dazu auf, ihn als Christ im täglichen Leben,-auch heute-, umzusetzen!
I found older recordings of Cantata 147 by Nicolas (with leonard), but i wonder if this version was published (buy teldec ?). Where was it ? WHo are the performers ? .. The first time i heard harnoncourt directing it was Mozart requiem (telarc or teldec?) . May Bach bless him forever.
Oh heck. This video was picked out for me. It says the group most likely to enjoy this comprises males 45-54 in Germany. I am in America but have a German last name.
The conductor looks very merry! Really like the depth and sonority that the musicians are able to achieve (able to hear the middle voices and lower voices very clearly... tone was not too bright; trumpets did not sound too over-powering)
In 1975 I began to learn German. In 1977 I visited Heidelberg for a week because I had seen 'The Student Prince' in the 1950s.
In July 1981 I spent 2 weeks in Leipzig. On a sunny day at an open air Bach concert outside the Thomaskirche I became a devotee of that great Lutheran genius.
I am still besotted and this is my favourite performance of my favourite Bach cantata.
è veramente strabiliante come la sonorità del Concentus sia rimasta inalterata negli anni nonostante il succedersi degli strumentisti. Grande Harnonocurt!
I don't see anything that indicates it working "obviously" for most of the world. Frankly, I doubt the number of people that know who Nikolaus Harnoncourt is number in even the tens of millions, let alone over 3 billion in accord.
Don't you hear it works? "Individual tehnicque" is nothing strange in the world of music. A lot of famous conducters had and still have some weird motions, but it doesn't matter if it helps them to express their feeling of music and make the performance better.
Music is superhuman, performance is prodigious, and choir sings as angels in heaven. It's impossible to listen nothing more perfect. Thank you, Mr. Harnoncourt. My spirit is calmer after to hear it.
He never fails to amaze me. It gives me a feeling I cannot describe. It is secure happiness: a state in which you feel very uplifted and are confident that you will stay so. No other composer can do that for me, not even Mozart.
Bach combines emotion with reason and his music is truly phenomenal and timless. He has been the inspiration of many composers, including Beethoven (to answer pierrovah!) His works are full of emotion, joy for life and a sensibility that is very rare
@firebreathone has got it exactly right. I love Mozart, Vivaldi and a host of other wonderful composers but none do exactly as our correspondent says so well. Papa Bach.
@firebreathone completely agree with you. Most of the time I cannot stop crying when I listen to Bachs music. He reaches my inner soul core with his astonishing music, nothing like Bach for me either.
This version is great! As Harnoncourt himself! The only "mistake" I find in it it's due to the production...following the logic of the whole piece, they should have shown the Bass' section at 00.53, not again Sopranos!
