  • The line about Joan Crawford is priceless... LOL

  • I just want to poke her cheeks. I don't know why.

  • Bette is Simply Charming I never saw her like this! She just seems so Natural , Happy and Oh My What a Sense of Humor!

  • beautiful commentary! exactly correct, she got it!!

  • I truly like Bette as an actress and enjoy her movies immensely. But, what I like even more is Bette the person. SHE is the *show* or the person of interest --- meaning, Bette the person is a greater attraction than Bette the actress. I do love watching these candid interviews. If there was one person I would like to have lunch with, dead or alive, it would be Bette Davis. I have a hunch, we'd be great friends!

  • What a charming lady. And she looks incredible. Just adorable x

  • How horrible that her money-grubbing daughter wrote such a vile, mendacious book about her. A charming and funny lady.

  • exquisite!

  • How dare those wasps sting the legendary Bette Davis !! :))

  • Just love the Joan Crawford reference. Hahaha. How catty I love Bette and her sarcasm. Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy eternity

  • I just love the way she says "A GUN, maybe .." It just kills me!

  • She hipnotizes us, she has that power.

  • LOL - I bet Bette and Joan were secretly best friends

  • @DIETRICHCICCONE...LOL I've often thought that myself =D

  • It saddens me that people from my generation and all future generations will mostly likely never be exposed to such great talent and such classiness. Entertainment evolves, I know. But the earliest decades of Hollywood were by far the most respectable period of classical American entertainment with regards to all aspects. We're losing our cultural identity with these new forms of entertainment that are sweeping the nation by storm.

  • Judy Garland and Bette Davis were devoted to the Hollywood Canteen. Bette Davis and John Garfield started the Canteen and Judy helped out alot and visited the Hollywood Canteen and really devoted herself to the war effort. Bette Davis was one of the smartest and classiest actresses we ever will see. By the mid to late 40's She and Judy were the only two female stars to carry a movie on their own. They both had incredible star power at the box office.

  • Bette davis is from the town right next to my home town well pretty close long live new england

  • @allenshepard she's probably the only good thing to ever come out of lowell

  • I don't think Judy wanted to die so young. Judy was amazing that fact she was on so much medication and that she performed to great heights and stopped many a show, she was truly a powerhouse. Not many could do what she did without Meds let alone on the meds. You can see Bette had great respect for Judy and they were the only two Major female stars in the 40's that could carry an entire picture on their own just by their star power. Judy at MGM & Bette at Warner's

  • @NFitalianGuy...Very nice comment =)

  • I Love Bette!!!

  • I love how Bette and Kate always had a mutual respect for one another. They always seemed to only say when they admitted that the other one did really well that year and left it at that. and they happen to be the top two. of course

  • @poeticjournalism - But they didn't like each other. Hepburn was so competitive--you can see that in the Cavett interview when he mentions Bette Davis, who was her chief rival.

  • @poeticjournalism I heard Bette's opinions about Katharine but not Katharine's about Bette. Do you know what she thought of her? Are there clips?

  • If I had to sum up why I love Bette it is: 'My arm....A rock.....' what do you mean a rock? '.....A ROCK!' Haha, so melodramatic. I have to mention her fab little outfit too, she is my hero!

  • Bette is a true Star and full of confidence in her work and not afraid to praise those people who were talented. Judy Garland was a star of the greatest Magnitude. Bette falls into the category Hands down. These Up starts today who claim they are stars should watch clips like this one and take notes and learn what a true Actor/Actress really is. Bette will never be a Celebrity. Celebrities are people who are famous and have no talent. Bette and her peers of the day were great STARS

  • She was so honest in this interview and totally real which made her fascinating to watch and listen to. she was very interesting when she referred to Judy Garland. Often wondered if they ever were friends. Both were patriotic during WWII. I guess I am an addict when it comes to anything concerning Garland and Bette Davis. Hollywood never will see the likes of them again.

  • No, Judy and Ms. Davis were never friends, although Judy admired Bette greatly and wanted to be as great an actress.

  • Joan Crawfors was an amazingly beautiful and talented actress but Davis was a much better actress because she never let vanity interfere with how she looked. Whichi why Davis was such a bigger and star who's body of work is more revered and loved.

  • @NFitalianGuy I agree. Joan Crawford was another big STAR...she knew her lines, and everybody lines when filming a movie...very dedicated to her work. Bette, however, more revered and loved. For sure.

  • Her response that "Miss Crawford wouldn't have done something like that.. A gun Maybe, but not a wasp" LOL Priceless!

  • She overflows with charisma, I love her! Lmfao "Is it possible Joan Crawford put it there?" Sorry, I'm not trying to offend Ms. Crawford, I love her every bit as much as I love Ms. Davis.

  • Joan Crawford is utterly fantasic and shoulden't be knocked down in contrast to Davis, also wonderful. Why must people put one over the other? Can't two people just be great on their own terms and let that be it? You know who is also an old hollywood actress I love? Gloria Swanson!

  • I completely agree. Why must people always compare them? What does it matter who is better? There's no need to put down one in order to praise the other. Both were marvelous actresses with very different styles of acting. I haven't seen much of Gloria Swanson actually. But my favorite is Vivien Leigh :)

  • Love these videos, thanks so much for posting! She is amazing to listen to and quite adorable with her short little dress & boots. I could listen to her all day. She is one in a million!

  • Anyone who say Joan Crawford was abusive looks up her daughters Cindy and Cathy and you'll hear a very different story.

  • Thank you! Someone sees the light...

  • I love how she is playing around with her glasses the whole time LOL she is truely the best actress ever !

  • She is one of my heroes. Even loaded (as she clearly is) she is commanding and fabulous.

  • sooooooo fantastic. love her forever .

  • I can't get enough of her STILL! What a queen she is!

  • hate joan crawford...LOVE Bette! She is so cool. ...adn i dont care if joan crawford fans try to attack me. She (Crawford) was an abusive bitch and a half. Terrible actress. Ugly woman. No class.

Bette was the chick. Always. Love her outfit here too!

  • As a Bette Davis fan I still have respect for Crawford and I think its a shame you don't. Whatever was wrong between Davis and Crawford is their business- not mine or yours. What kind of person Crawford was doesn't matter to me either (most people in Hollywood have huge egos and problems, then and now). Let's just celebrate Crawford and Davis for the great actresses they were and the beauties they were (and if you consider Crawford ugly, you must have ridiculously high standards!)

  • Crawford and Davis were two very different actresses. Davis was probably braver with her roles. However, I still cannot believe you think Joan was unattractive and couldn't act. But that's your opinion (maybe you should watch Mildred Pierce and you might change your mind). As for Joan being a child abuser, how'd you know? were you there? Myna Loy and Marlene Dietrich and many others discredited the book Mommie Dearest. Still love Bette and Joan so much anyway, even if they did hate each other.

  • Dont drag Marlene into this. Please.

Joan Crawford really was a child abusing nut-case.

I believe that. Truly do. Her daughter and son were BEATEN by that witch of a woman and comin from that kind of environment I KNOW the truth about those things and her daughter has no reason to lie. Why would she lie? Joan was not the worst actress. Certainly not but I just simply cant have respect for her. But to each their own. Her fans are devoted. I understand that.

  • Just because someone writes a book on it, does not make it so! Only one side of the story was told. Bette's daughter even had the nerve to write a book about her. I dont believe what either books have to say. They both were very classy actresses.

  • Leave Crawford alone, she's fantastic.

No need to put one over the other. They're equally good.

What an immature way to think.

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly.

  • I love her<333

  • i love how cheeky she is here!

  • She is a great actress, they don't make them like her anymore.

  • that joan crawford moment is priceless!

  • Yes, what a woman! She was a feast to the years, eyes, life, etc, etc. In all of her interviews, her turns of phrase were phenomenal!!! What a brilliant mind, sense of humor, personality, presence, everything.. Bette Davis was so very gifted in countless aspects. Saying she was amazing, outstanding, fantastic will be always understatements! :) She was something else our dictionaries or thesaurus cannot describe for lack of magnificent adjectives! What a rare individual! Definitely! Lovely....

  • @simoneshauy Such beautiful words from a true Bette Davis connoisseur. To say she is iconic is small praise. She is the very archetype of what theatre is all about. Her performances are beyond belief, it's truly an honor to gaze upon her. Observing Bette Davis should be mandatory requirement for anyone who pursues acting, directing and production, i.e., all forms of entertainment. It's so cool her talking about Judy Garland and Katharine Hepburn. They all will never be surpassed.

  • she's soo cute!

  • What a woman

  • Bette was one of the best...charm with a twist of down to earth!

  • What a distinguished and lovely lady! I adore her!

Thank you for posting all these Dick Cavett interviews. I think he's a great interviewer.

  • Miss Davis is certainly spot on about the necessity for discipline in her craft. As she said, Katharine Hepburn had it too. And so did another great lady, Lillian Gish. And I believe because of this discipline all these ladies had long and distinguished careers. The public realized and applauded all of them for their dedication to their art. You sure don't see that kind of dedication in the thespians of this day and age. Bette is one canny lady!

  • LOL! That's kind of funny. Bet Miss Davis would of had bit that dog back. Oh so adore this woman. AMAZING!!!

  • I think it was Bogart who said "If a dog bit Bette Davis on the ass, you could be sure she'd bite it right back!!"

  • bette has been to scotland, bette rules.

  • 'Is it possible that Joan Crawford put it there?' great! How i wish she talked more about Joan..AHAH i'm such a bitch!

  • Bette always steals the show! Fabulous. The 'old school' is wonderful. I have the old with the new. I appreciate all of her works.

  • She wanted to say so much about Joan Crawford, she was trying so hard to hold back!

  • I Love How She Pushes Her Glasses Into Her Cheeks And Creates Little Dimples. It Made Me Smile =)

  • LMAO you can tell bette davis didn't like it when he asked her about joan crawford lol

  • please

  • The WASP got stung by a wasp ;-)

  • LONG LIVE BETTE DAVIS!!!

  • It was FRIGHTENING! A WASP!
