I believe this was either '49 or '51. The last song he wrote was "I saw the Light", performed it in a bar, then on the road. He passed December 12th, 1952.
Hank wrote I saw the light and many Gospel...he wrote this I think too. He wrote gospel like a poem due to his guilt of reg. songs he wrote and strong drink....
Albert Brumley also wrote a number of other favorites such as Turn Your Radio On, I'll Meet You in the Morning and a bunch of others. He was a member of the Church of Christ from Oklahoma
i herd this song ever since i was little boy looking at the hills of KY.grandma couldn't here that good so she have it bouncing off the mountains, talking about almost being near the stage ,that's what i thank it would have sound like.
hank didn't just didn't do great gospel songs every song he ever done was the best. he put every thing he had in to his music and as far as I see it he is the best song writer ever
I am not a religious person by any means, but still, it has to be said: songs like this are deeply affecting on a spiritual level that those Christian pop/rock songs could never, ever attain to. This is real.
I love that 'O brother, where are thou' brought so many of these old songs and depression era songs back! Young kids were singing this and others from that movie! My house was built in '29, and I often wonder what the original owners were listening to back then.
there ain't nothing like hank doing gosple, he put so much heart in it, hank was a christian at heart he just couldn't take the pain i know i got a disease similar to his and beleive me he suffered.
my family used to play and sing this song all the time , my great grand mother and her sisters while my great uncles would play banjo and piano and guitar and my great grand father would play fiddle ! in west virginia i wish i couldv seen it now they can barely sing....
nobody said it better thanks Hiram

Look for the Gaither Gospel series of CDs and DVDs. The older "Homecoming" series is the best.
