  • Can anybody do my dreads pleaseee i want dreads for the longest contact me on Fb

  • Is your salon in california

  • You don't listen to these people who say what's rigjt or wrong.(just one things that is general though is wax don't use a lot it might not seam like you have much but less is more). Dreads are a personal thing, so do it how you want and enjoy it once you find how it works for you. Oh and I own a hair "saloon" that does only dreads and I work with the people to find what they need and also my prices are very low only enough to cover what I need to live, I live in a trailer, cheaply. Which I love.

  • @Jameo2kk first off this isn't bad for your hair I work with dreads all the time (including my own). And I've learned that everyone has different hair for some wax works, for some it is bad same with lock peppa. It changes by the person for me wax wasn't bad but I used very little and not for long, my Bro it is great for my half Bro it is terrible. Its the same with all things with dreads. For everyone on here just try different methods and don't be discouraged you will find a way that works for

  • That was awesome and is making me want some dreads. I am so uncordinated and clumsy that I would need someone to do them for me lol!!!

  • Jade: A knitting shop perhaps.

Smoothcriminal: Yeah, push it down, compress the hair, and repeat.

  • pause at 2:07

  • Where do i buy a crochet needle?

  • @Jade29gSm

you can buy one at Walmart in their arts/crafts section.

  • how much can it cost to get it backcombed by a salon?

  • yo i was wondering if u can tel how like see i ripped my dread in half on acccident and i was wondering if i can crochet it back do you know how ?

  • @miko3030

yeah, just hold the two parts next to each other and put the crochet hook through one part so that it grabs the other part an pull it in to the first part. Do a fast and quit a bit. Start at the root and work your way down, rotating back and forth as you go so that the dread stays round.

  • If you have some loose hairs around the 2 dreads, you can use em like threads and just tangle them in between the 2 dreads.

  • @miko3030 just grab a sew needle and some thread thats the same colour as ur hair and pull i through the first dread to the second and just weave it through both of them to saw it back on until and after awhi;le once the hair has grown u can remove it

  • wat size is the needle

  • 0.6mm, size 12

You can use a size 10 too, depends on how thick is your hair.

  • Realy speedy !

    Great man !

  • is it truth that if you don't want to have dreads anymore you have to shave your hair??

please answer i want to get dreads and it took me one year to build up my hair

  • it depends on how tight they are. if there're really tight, you'll probably have to cut a good amount off, then put conditioner or strong detangler and carefully comb them out with a fine-toothed comb, or if they're rather new, like up to a year, a good amount of conditioner or detangler and a fine-toothed comb will do fine. Also, washing your dreads with mosterizing (i don't know how to spell it, hopefully thats close enough) shampoo and conditioner before hand can really help. hope this helps

  • thanks for the help :)

now im just waiting to get my dreads on next saturday

  • Yes thats true. If your tired of them you gotta shave your head

  • i think if u wash it really good with a conditioner and comb through they should come out. i kno they will but they take a minute to come out and when i saw it done i noticed a little bit of hair breaking off but im sure its jus normal becuz the hair was so tight while it was dreaded up. hope i helped@helghastfootsoldier

  • nope they were locked dreads. u kno applesandmustard from YouTube? (Dari) she actually did it on a video and hers are completly locked lol

  • real dreads?

you CAN take locs down, it just takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and a lot of conditioner. if you have a really kinky hair texture like mine, it might take a lot of combs, too...

    do you have locs?

  • honey, i know what locs are, trust i got em, lol. and the hair doesn't have to be "unkept", i know that it occurs naturally when you do that (to any hair texture), but hair can loc if you keep it twisted, coiled, or latched (like hers is) even when you wash it. nobody's hair just automatically locs, it's a process. this method is a valid way to start the process! they're still "real"

what you're referring to is freeform locs or organic locs. all others, like this girl's locs, are cultivated.

  • Hair with non african ethnicity would take 10 times more time to lock up... I want dreads, but I dont want to look like a homeless dweller

  • That's not true! Dreadlocks do not start at the root, and it depends on how locked they are whether you can take them out or not.

  • @helghastfootsoldier Its false; you don't have to cut your hair after, so go for it.

  • @KweenOfDarkness thanxs for the support ;P

  • Well, if the dread is really tight, you probably have to cut it off near the root. Maybe around 1 inch of hair remaining. You could probably cut at 2 inches, and untangle the remaining top part.

  • Genius!!

  • would you do someone's whole head?

    haha where do you live!

  • Man if I was to get my hair backcombed into dreads I'd want you to do it because that's just perfect. Alas, I am taking the natural path to dreads.

  • Samething as Tiffany...

    not getting it :(

So fast...Explain it more slowly than your vid !please...(and i dont understand on the website too :( the hook method)

  • Errhhmm, guess I need to make a new video for that eh....

  • i'm not getting it

    please explain

  • Did you backcomb hard enough? Push em down real hard. I don't quite trust backcombing on its own, always did it with crocheting to make it tighter + neater.

  • Well....

  • Brilliant way of makin'/mantaining dreads, waaaaaay better then the usual methods, sorted out my tips and got rid of my massive frizz problem

  • do you think this would work as well on coiled/kinky hair, excluding the back combing part?

  • It should work. But without backcombing, it would be hard to crochet, try backcombing first.

  • thats awesome no messy wax? just lockin it up with a crocket hook thats amazing ima have to try this

  • what size hook bra?

  • 0.6mm and 0.85mm

  • Beautiful dread, sir

  • sometimes you gotta ask yourself, why dont i have enough time on my hands?

  • Your lucky i had a bad experience with dreads well i was using a bad technique ive never tried the crochet hook with back combing all i did was just back comb my hair straight like yours but seeing this video makes me want to give them another shot using your technique thanks

  • why so thick ??? damn

  • some people like thick dreadlocks better then thin ones. Its a matter of personal taste really.

  • Pull the loops back in later when you rotate again. Well, loops will come out again when your dreads mature and tighten. My dreads has lots of loopies!

  • there are loops whenever i swith to 90 degrees, when i pull the hook out:( what should i do?

  • how long did you wait to wash your hair da first monthss??

  • Don't have to wait. I washed it the day after. And then after that, everyday 3 days or so.

  • how long does it take to fully lock up?

  • After a few washes maybe.

  • i've never thought of crocheting as i backcomb...i only crochet in loose hairs. great technique, i'll try it on someone soon.

i love dreads on asian people.

    well, all peole really! :)

  • damn you got some great dreads. especially for an asian person. lol no offense, its just that asians with dreads aren't a common sight. i feel like a douche with all the loose hair in my dreads now. if only you were in the US...

  • ur dreads look dope...!!

u should put some suggestions on like products..and stuff

  • Actually I don't use any other products besides a natural hempseed oil soap and a crochet hook. (and palm rolling)

  • so where are you located?

  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

  • shit! you need to make a trip to the states and open a shop! your dreads are the best i've ever seen bro!

  • yeah bro seriously! you need to dread my hair! cuz i want them but i have this fear of them coming out all wrong. and they have to be awesome looking like how you did them cuz i'm a nursing student and they can't be shitty.

  • I would love for you to be able to do my hair...you do a great job!...where you located?

  • Your video was so helpful and so was your site, Im just wondering, how do you wash it? I hear Bar soap(with no moisturizer) is the way to go... but Im not sure.

  • Yes, a natural bar soap (I use hemp-seed oil) is best. It won't soften your hair too much and won't add any chemicals or residue to your dreads.

  • hey sorry just a couple more questions. how close to the root should you crochet? and when your dreads start to lock up do they get thinner or thicker?

  • Maybe about 1cm away from the root when making the dreadlocks. They don't seem to get thicker or thinner, just harder.

  • Well done! I have a 16 month year old son, with very sleek fine hair. Can I start dreading or is he too young? His hair hangs in front of his eyes and touches the shoulders in the back. Is that enough length?

  • I don't think age should be a concern. The front hair should reach his chin so that the end result will look nicer (half the length). I guess you will have to wait a while more.

  • Thank you so much for your quick and clear reaction. You have amazing technique and I think it's bizar how beautiful that dread is. Hope mine will be as well.

I'm going to check out your website as well. Cheers!

  • when new hair grows in do you have to crochet the new growth or does it dread by itself?

  • It will automatically dread itself. Palm rolling and root rubbing will make it dread faster. I don't recommend using the crochet hook on the roots.

  • Wow, i cant believe how great they look straight away! I imagine they stay in well if you crochet after. bet it takes no time to do the whole lot!

The problem i have is making the hair stay in after crocheting... a nights sleep or a wash and out they come! how often do you crochet the SAME tip? Does it all fall out again over time? When i do it in and out fast like that, the hook just gets stuck and doesnt come out again???? HELP MEEEEE!

  • Hmm, if you do it correct and get the dread real tight the first time, they shouldn't fall apart. Washing it will only make it tighter and harder, no shampoo or conditioners please.

Tips don't usually give any problem. There might be one or two troublesome tips, but after crocheting them, they stay neat for a really long time. I crocheted maybe 5 tips or so in the past year.

    Try using a smaller needle?

  • its not painful.

    calm down.

  • What's wrong with painful? It's only painful at the parts behind the ears and above the neck.

This technique, is also 'natural' as it does not involve any chemicals.

  • does this method make the dreads permanently locked?

  • Yes, provided you keep it maintained. I have mine for 20 months and counting! Done with this method.

  • are you suposed to use a crochet hook to start them or just backcomb. i was thinking backcombing would just fall out after a while. and this makes it look like dreads right after.

    i want dreads.

  • Backcombing will form the basis of the dread, mashing majority of the hair up. Crocheting will make it tighter, and help pull all the spikey loose hairs into the dread. And then, palm rolling will make it nice, tight and round.

  • ok thanks.

  • Wow that's a amazing.

    That's the first time

    I've seen great looking

locks on that type of hair.

    COOL.

  • what is a crochet hook?

I mean, can I get that like at a cheap pharmacy or something? because I don't feel like ordering some from websites, they're all full of shit.

    thanks ;)

  • u can get them at craft stores, cuz they're originally for knitting

  • ohhhhhhh Alright now I know what it is :P

    Thank you very much! :)

  • wow dat chik whos hair ur dreadin is really fucking hot i bet she looks hotter with dreads =X

  • ¬¬ ... ok.

  • r u a gangstah, boiiiiiiii?

or just an other horny kid who can't spell for shit?

  • hahahahahahahahaha.....

  • which number of the crochet hook do you use? :)

  • #12 (0.60mm) for maintenance and #10 (0.75mm) for tightening and making dreads.

  • thanks :)

  • beautiful dread. perfect one :) wanna do my next dreads? :P

  • Sure, come down to Malaysia yeah!

  • a damn... it's too far from my Croatia...

but still, you rocks in making them. I wanna dreads just like those :)

  • Well, get a comb and a crochet hook and do it yourself!!

  • i was just visiting family in croatia, and i saw sooo many people with dreads there!

  • yeah, many people have dreads here :)

  • Oh, then you can just ask one of them to help you!

  • I will, but dunno anyone I would trust. I had dreads once, but they were made fucked up so I have to cut them off. but I'm persistant and I wanna new ones :P

  • am.. just another question.. sorry hehe :)

how often you gave maintainence to your dreads?.. i mean, because of the water, the little hairs around it star to appear, obviously.. thanks a lot, again :)

  • Actually the little hairs are ok as they will go into one of the dreads sooner or later. Just do some clockwise root rubbing.

I only do maintenance when longish loose hairs appears, usually in a bunch. Then I will take the crochet hook and hook them into the nearest root/dread.

Palm rolling takes care of the rest of the dread length.

  • thank youu!!.. i'm glad to meet people like you, that always want to help :).. thanks!

  • ok.. thank's a lot!! :)

  • a friend used the same technic to make my dreadlocks just a few weeks ago, but he told me that I should not wash my hear.. I didn't like that, so, i'm washing them just with regular soup once a week.. would you mind to tell me what should i use? Thanks :)

  • I washed my hair the same day my dreadlocks was done. And the next day as well.

Just use a natural soap, one without chemicals. A hemp seed oil soap or a lavender one will do. You can get them at a flea market or at a natural health store.

  • I wash my hair every 3 or 4 days. If it gets sweaty/smokey, then I wash it on the same day itself.

Make sure to air it out/sun dry it so that it won't smell funky.

  • Wow, amazing job! I'm a bit curious as to how your model looked after she got the dreadlocks-- I'm currently considering it, and want to know how they look with that hair-type~ Is there a video of her finished head?

  • Sorry, don't have any pictures after the video.

The dreadlocks will look just like dreads, even with straight hair (as you can see in the video itself).

  • 02hardoldshit

look for some scalp lotion that will do the trick

    what island you live on?

  • how do i get rid of dandruff on my dreadlocks? in the phillipines its hard to look for a no residue shampoo, esp. when youre on a rural area.. is there some natural way to get rid of it??

  • I'm using natural soap, try to find it at your local BodyShop or natural shop.

Btw, for dandruff, people on the forums tend to use Rosemary oil on their scalp.

  • hey man was this the first time you started making dreads on this girl? they seemed fairly tight for being the first one. Im considering dreading my hair but it is only about 4 inches long currently. my question is can i use the same method that you did and get the samw or similar results? is this way quicker at all. please respond Thanks.

  • This is my second time doing dreads. And yes, if you backcomb real tight and do the crocheting, the dread will be all tight and nice.

I suggest growing it to about 6-7 inches, as this will make it easier to dread and also resulting in nicer looking dreadlocks overall.

This way is not the quickest, but it's the best IMHO, because it's natural, no wax or burning required.

  • I used this video to do mine. Worked out great just. I have just one question for anyone who can answer it. About 2-3 inches from just about all the roots came undreaded. Is there anyway to get them to lock back up or will they just lock themselves back over time?

  • 2-3 inches eh? Try the clockwise rubbing method and the spraying a little bit of lemon juice + salt mixture onto the area.

Try to wash your hair with a natural soap every 3-5 days to help tighten it up. If your roots are oily, it won't lock up.

  • great demo...going to try this tomorrow....you make it look so easy and quick compared to the other zillion we have watched....hope it works....here we go....

  • Geez you did that fast!!

  • 3MIN soooo long~

  • what size hook do you use in this video..? same as the other one? 0.6mm?

  • If I'm not mistaken it should be a 0.75mm. I also have a 0.85mm on hand just in case. But the 0.75mm will do.

  • Check out the new annotations in the video!

  • This kid knows what he's doing. This is the best route for stick-straight hair.

He's got everything going..back-combing, a little braiding, skilled crocheting, AND he neatens up (rounds-off) the ends so there's no "rat's tail" effect.

This guy's a pro (as you can see by glimpses of his own locks).

    5 Stars.

  • My bad I meant to say it as a question

    "New video coming soon?"

  • Yeah, soon. A little bit more detail on how to use the crochet hook and how to make nice rounded ends.

  • New video coming soon

I done took what I use to have

(which was spose to lock up out)

Im waiting to find someone who can

    use this kick ass method

  • I'm started to get issues with my dreads. I haven't found anyone to do them and they are getting lumps/loops in them. and they are also dry. What do I do?

  • Lumps and loops can be fixed by using a crochet hook to pull them back into the dread. Dry? It's ok if they are dry.

  • Can u take it out since its not really made right?

  • Not really made right? It's as tight as it can be. The crochet hook will make it real tight. If you leave it a few days/weeks, it will tighten up even more, therefore taking them out is hard.

You can take them out after a few days, but depending on how tight you do it, it may be difficult.

  • great video, but it needs sound and an explanation, people should definitely watch this method and make dreads like this rather than like the knotty boy vids with wax :(

I had my hair done with this method but i need to maintain / tidy / tighten them and im rubbish at crocheting - can you explain exactly what you are doing after the backcombing part to tighten the dreads up plz?
