@darkapaul there's no rule that says the judges have to be more skilled than the actual competitors themselves. they're only there to rate them. i can think of plenty of events where the competitors were doper than the judges (although that's not always the case)
@SoulOfTheBboy i dont remember the exact clip but cico talks about how it feels to have "superpowers". to them bboying is a complete different concept, you can see punisher wearing pantera im guessing hes into that heavy stuff. but an airflare is an airflare no matter what song is on.
@mechwarrior13 I totally see where you're coming from, but have you ever considered playing devils advocate? In the 70s and 80s bboys had to be fresh, had to know how to dance and rock the floor. Now in 2010 they don't? Imo the moves have progressed, but the dance has faded and dumb down. Having power never made anyone a bboy, this generation has it twisted. Punisher had some of the most explosive of all time , but would still get roasted by the likes of Kenny 10 battles out of 10.
@IamtheSamis lol all i practice is toprock i love the dancing but i dont have power for shit and thats y i respect powerheads even more. yea i can make up a million moves in footwork but i'll never be able to do an airflare. i do respect style but its all about biting someone and do it better, more variations etc. theres just way too many generic but good bboys out there, but now even the average power is like airflare combos, they got work so much harder to be even close to being good
@IamtheSamis yes powerheads do bite a lot, but to be able to bite someones move you gotta be able to do it well... and thats more than i can say about styleheads... hey look that front shuffle looks sweet! im goin to do it now!! see how ez it is??
@IamtheSamis What the heck are you talking about. These are 3 outta the millions of dancers out there. To be honest in the 70 and 80's I didn't see much dancing back then. Especially in the 80 and 90's. In early 2000's till now was when I started to see bboys actually dancing to the music. Todays bboys like Born, Machine, Flying Buddah, Lilou, all dance to the music better than bboys from the 70's and 80's. The dance has not faded. Just some choose to focus on one part of the dance.
@bboyStuntZ If you had a legitimate point I'd give a better response, but you're wrong. Your problem is the same most have, instead of embracing the dance for what it is you're dictating what it you believe / want it to be. There is only one type of bboy, all this power, abstract, style, etc crap is fallacy. Bboys are bboys, you can't just can't take one aspect from the dance an say you're a bboy regardless of how impressive you are. May be ill at that aspect, but that in no way makes 1 a bboy
@IamtheSamis Ok no disagreement there and in my comment there is no disagreement either. It's funny we are on the same page you think we are not. I agree a power head is not a bboy since it is only one part of the dance. And in most cases in powermove they do not dance to the music.
@IamtheSamis and when you say Kenny would roast Punisher, so what. Punisher would roast Kenny in power. So that proves they both have a weakness. I respect the 70's and 80's but lets be realistic. B-boys from back then do not DANCE better than todays b-boys. I've watched so many pro battles that prove this point. 70's and 80's bboys only paved the way. Now there are battles that focus on footwork, power, toprock, or just one single move. This is a powermove showcase. Not bboy battle.
@bboyStuntZ Seriously, your debate is null. So what if Punisher can roast Kenny in power, does that make him a better bboy? Wheres the logic, bro? Punisher clearly has some of the illest power around and would in comparison make Kenny's power look non extent, but I've never seem Pun kill a break even once. Also for you to say bboys just started dancing now is absurd. Where they dancing like Domkey? Nah, but many danced very well. You must have not been paying attention very well. . .
@IamtheSamis and I'm not comparing Punisher and Kenny as bboys. Obviously one is a bboy and the other is not. Punisher I think even said in an interview that he does not consider himself a bboy. But I hate when people hate on him just cause he wants to focus on power. That is not disrespecting bboying unless he goes around saying he's a bboy. Since he is not then we should just respect him as being very good at power. Clips I've watch from teh 80's like beat street, they did not dance.
@bboyStuntZ Word, but once again your comments are directed towards the wrong person. I never dissed Pun, in fact in my original I stated that his power was out of this world. Secondly if you're going to bring up the level of dancing back in the day its almost unfair to bring up NYC Breakers being that they would be the first to admit the focused more on the flashy side of the dance and less on the essence.
@IamtheSamis ok name a crew and hopefully there is footage of them from back in the 80's where it shows them actually dancing. And I don't consider footwork dancing. Unless it's actually to the music. Rocksteady also didn't dance much back then and they would be considered a crew that focused more on the essence. They danced more I'll give em that, but still not allot compared to bboys now.
@bboyStuntZ I've seen your post on many bboy videos here and 9/10 agree or respect your opinion, but the road we're heading down is fail. Here's why. . . You're falling into this technology trap that most YT heads do. This, if its not posted on the web it didn't take place stuff. I never said all bboys from that era were ill dancers, I stated that back then bboying was more about being fresh, opposed to today where you can do strictly power or abstract stuff and be considered a bboy by many
@bboyStuntZ The moves are progressing, but the dance is dumbing down as far as its connection to the essence. So no, I'm not going to scour Yt for rare clips of an old school crew at a cypher or something. Besides, you do realize that most of the footage from that era is of showcases and stuff, right? Anyway, this whole if its not on the web then it didn't exist ideology is bananas. Don't let technology make you lose your understanding of history. Bboys didn't just start rocking beats in 2001
@bboyStuntZ I'm ready to end this debate because in reality its pointless. You took my comment out of context. I was simply telling Mech to see where Soul was coming from by presenting the other side of the argument. I already gave Punisher his props, dudes amazing at what he does. That kind of power is unreal and the true 1 arm airflare is crazy.
@IamtheSamis they just did very simple toprock and then went to the floor and did their footwork and power. When they did dance with their uprocking, it was only for a short period of time that they were on beat. After that when they did other sets they were off beat. Now it's like Mandatory to toprock on beat. I only started to see real beat riding in early 2000. Even watch battle of the year battles from early 90's till 2000. Just battles not showcase. In showcase they danced.
@IamtheSamis and here is an example of what I'm talkin about. Watch New York City Breakers (3) on Soul Train, and then watch VAGABONDS vs FRESHIT. You'll see that nowadays bboys are rocking the beats more and playing with the music. Back in the 80's there was not much of that at all. Yes of course it's the times and they did inspire many bboys today and they paved the way. Not taking that away. But for anyone to say bboys don't dance now will be proven wrong in the clips I mentioned
@bboyStuntZ Lastly, the next time you want to interject your opinions in the middle of others discussion make sure you read it and understand it in its entirety. Soulofabboy called Pun a gymnast, not a bboy, then mechwarrior replied debating that, and I asked mech to play devil's advocate, I just made the simple point that on YT people break the dance up to were you can be power, style, abstract instead of being a bboy. I never said he was a biter, I don't even know were mech was going there
@SoulOfTheBboy tell me. When was the last time you saw a pure gymnast do 1 handed airflare? Or more than 20 1990's? Anyways this is a powermove battle. Not bboy battle so I dunno why you're hating. Whether or not it's true that Punisher doesn't know anything about bboying is irrelevant in this vid.
