First, this is a continuity error, not a blooper, and secondly Tagan was her mother. Torren is her father's name. It's like in Vikig cultures - the girls last name was after their mother (eg Freyasdotter) and the boys after their father (eg Snorrisson).

As has been mentioned several times, Tagan is her mother and Toran is her father. I don't know why the author of this video assumed that "Daughter of Tagan" must mean that Tagan is her father. Seems somewhat chauvinistic (in its meaning relating to gender).

It was actually a mistake, but they (the producers and writers) said that Tagon (as referenced in the series premiere) was her mother and Torren (as referenced in the the season 5 premiere) was her father.

I'm thinking she is taking John to not only honor Sheppard BUT using a middle name to honor the culture of the Tauri as Athosian culture doesn't traditionally have one.

The tradition of last names in most cultures is father to son. We know that the Athosian culture has at least two names (common given (first), familial (last)) from Teyla Emmagan.

Yet, she is naming the boy, Torren John EMMAGAN. NOT Torren John (Kanaan's last name).

If the tradition is to take your mother's last name to honor, then the "daughter of": is the last name of the father (to honor his LINE) and not the given name.

So my money is that Teyla's father is named: Torren Tagan
