I'm sure there's some mysterious answer that probably has something to do with time travel. Richard Alpert said that Ben would completely forget about the incident and lose his innocence. Maybe he took him back in time to before he got shot them took him forward in time to when he was the leader of the Others.

I have seen all the episodes so far, however i dunt recall the reason why ben couldn't bring in an off-island surgeon or go off the island himself. Can someone please explain?

When the hatch exploded, there was an electromagnetic anomaly that made them lose communications with the outside world. That also made the radar that sent out signals from the island to stop sending out the signals, so they can leave the island but can never find it again. Apparently, some characters can leave the island and come back somehow... They haven't explained that yet. Well, I hope that that helps! :-D

the hatch exploded long after the plane crashed though. ben found out about the tumor a few days before the plane crashed and possibly affected some of the electromagnetic anomalies, so it still doesnt make sense if you think about it.

I remember that one of the characters (can't remember which one) said that they made their plane crash by not pushing the button. That's what caused the electromagnetic anomaly that broke the radar (I think). Maybe the characters can go through time without knowing about it. :-P OH! Or maybe what the characters do in the present time on the island affects what happened on it in the past!!! It could be some sort of past-rewriting machine. :-P

yeah, it was desmond who told locke "i crashed your plane" in the season 2 finale, when he read those papers locke got from the other hatch. but yea i cant find a reason why prior to the crash ben couldnt go off the island for surgery. maybe that wasnt the main problem tho. maybe ben was so disturbed by the news because he knew hes on an island where jacob cures cancer, so for him to have cancer meant jacob allowed it, and wanted him to suffer.

Yeh, they really should have done a separate producer 'evening' and then a cast 'evening', cause as interesting as the producers are, I would've prefered to hear more what the different cast members have to say about it all as I haven't that much already. Poor Emilie and Henry look so bored up the back!
