Back to the Beatles pastiche manufactured brit pop 1990's. All that fake optimism based upon a casino economy. He's the best at this kind of nostalgia tho Noel. Seems to be able to find some kind of recycled hotch potch of a tune from the small holes left by Lennon and Mac and Neil Young and er... the La's.
He's stringing it all out. You can sing sunshine like SUNS-HYYYYYYYYYNE and you can sing rain like RAYYYYYYYYYYYNE.
He is the musical equivalent of a join the dots puzzle. Nothing to say.
I love Oasis, Noel, Liam, Beady Eye, High Flying birds etc. But why does Noel always have to sing about sunshine!? Every song has a sunshine reference in it!
@RobinTaylorJenkins Good question. As a songwriter who is mainly inspired by Noel, I often find myself referencing the Sun as well.
There is a lot of symbolism in it. Everything from the actual Sun, to the warmth of love, to someones glowing personality.
I also notice he writes much like Lennon, in that its always 'You and I' perspective. Its intelligent enough to aknowledge the world, but its usually intimate enough to feel like a conversation with a friend or lover.
If anyone else wants this song on the album, spend the extra $5 on the Deluxe Edition. It comes in a hardcover book-like case with both B-Sides (The Good Rebel and Lord Shine A Light On Me) PLUS a bonus DVD. Just bought it today from Best Buy for $16.99. Worth every penny.
Yeah, just adding this song onto the album would have been excellent. Don't get me wrong I think Stop The Clocks is great, just the fact that Noel refuses to play it live, which makes it feel like a bit of a pointless addition.
I like Noel, the new album and this song but it's a complete rip off of rain by The Beatles. You think he would try to hide it a little bit better than this
@Alnilam82 Good association... didn't think about THAT one yet... the only song which came to my mind -drumsession wise mainly- was Jaded by Aerosmith... try to mash those two songs ;)
@MrBeatlesDrummer ..thank god it's not..the beatles etc were a long time ago..by all means love them for what they did..but plz don't try and give them credit for what noel gallaghers doing now..no disrespect meant but john lennon can't do what noel does....it's a truth we'll all just have to accept!! :D

@thesunreport You're right, Lennon wasn't technically better, except he wrote songs that were works of art that changed the face of modern music forever. Just compare "Eight Days a Week" (a great song for 1964) to "Strawberry Fields Forever", just 2 years (TWO YEARS!) later! I'm not putting down Noel, I'm just saying he hasn't changed the face of music like Lennon did. Don't get me wrong, Noel is a very talented musician and songwriter.
@Vpmatt ..it'a all totally subjective in that sense though...i mean the actual value of the art, that will always but up to the individual??. Lennon grew up in the 50's/60's where music itself was shaping society, technology was improving etc, and he was in a prominent writing partnership, at least for his apprenticeship, also bouncing creative ideas off people like brian wilson. Noel gallagher, and the guy in the pub are just as important as lennon will ever be, slices of the same pie??
@thesunreport Yes I agree about the pie metaphor, but the average muso is not a genius. Even Noel isn't a genius, but he is a very smart and talented musician. Lennon, on the other hand, was a genius, as is McCartney, and others like Brian Wilson ....guys who see angles that no one else has seen and create highly original and innovative music.
@Vpmatt ..pt 1-.i think genius is still relative though...i'm not neccesarily saying noel or lennon are genius's but if we measured the standard of the art by the impact it has culturally etc then that too shows an equality between all artists as it depends what action it actually inspires and that's relative to time, and who listens to it, ands what they do as a secondary act under that artistic influence??
@Vpmatt ..also i kind of didn't like lennons attitude in this clip..i thought he was a bit aloof and divionist..especially where he tries to take the p**s out of art garfunkel..(who i like!!)..bringing up paul and linda also kind of made me wonder who left who behind...he could have been more elegant for a 'genius'...i don't hate lennon though but if he thought about it i'm curious as to whether he would want really extreme praise..
@thesunreport Lennon was a flawed man, like the rest of us. That's another reason I love him. What you saw was what you got. He could definitely be a bastard, but also very charming, depending on his mood. I think he would have reacted fairly negatively to praise. I tell you what though, what he and Noel also have in common is a great sense of humour. By the way, being a genius (no inverted commas for Lennon) doesn't mean you have to be a gentleman!
@thesunreport Can I just add, I prefer Lennon's sarcasm and realism to McCartney's thumbs up everything is A-OK Man! shite. Needless to say, I also prefer Lennon's music. Two geniuses though. Very rare for one band.
@thesunreport No I'm not saying it is the same, and please don't go into an argument about who is better. What I'm saying is, when the Beatles split up the best first album after the break up was that John Lennon album. It is fantastic. Oasis, who were basically once as big as the beatles broke up and out of beady eye's album, and noel's album, noel wins. Basically the noel's album and John's album were the best after-breakup albums I have ever heard.
@MrBeatlesDrummer ...i think oasis themselves cultivated the idea of a beatles follow-on group and cited lennon etc at every opportunity, now i think it's a shame as this new album from noel for my money anyway, shouldn't be spoken of in the same breath as any other artist as it deserves to be seen with clear eyes and not through the lens of a lennon/beatles comparison. I take your point as your truth and thank you for the clarification, which helped me understand your view. :)
@MrBeatlesDrummer Yes. I love Noel's album. The reason that it is SO much better than Beady Eye is that Noel was obviously the brains and talent behind Oasis. You can't write a song like "Wonderwall" as well as numerous other songs without a shitload of talent. And his latest is wonderful too. Although not sure why Q panned "AKA..What a Life", that's a great song!
@Liverynew1 Yes on the deluxe and Japanese editions, not the one that most people buy. I don't know why it wasn't featured as a standard album track though, it should have at least been replaced with Stop The Clocks or just been added.
People who say it sounds to much like oasis can shut up. obviously it's gonna sound like oasis noel wrote most of the songs for oasis (well atleast all the best songs)what do you expect? that he's just going off on his own and start writing metal or something, no he been writing music like this his whole career and he is obviously gonna keep doing it. I love this new album i've been listening to it none stop and the songs are all amazing.

@savethebrits91 it's the last, 12th track on the Japanese Edition (after Game of Genius) officially, so we can pretend that it is on the album ;) absolutely love this track, gives me the feeling of the 90s, summery Oasis :D
@cropsy2008 are u deaf or something?? It sounds nothing like Rain by The Beatles, I hate people like you who almost listen to every Beatles song again every time an Oasis, Noel or Liam song come out and try to find anything that they can associate with them (even the word rain in this case)
@amaniteprototype are you for real you nobhead,i have an opinion and am allowed to express it,people like me,i hate people like you who think they know a person by a youtube comment.what a loser.i actually like noel and oasis but half there songs sound like beatles tunes(or lately kinks).anyway SHUT UP YOU TOSSER AND GET A LIFE YOU PRICK.
I love oasis, but in my mind Noel is better then beady eye, because even in oasis i liked the songs that noel sung more because his voice is a bit deeper and seems more smooth and his genius lyrics are what made me really start liking oasis, nothing against beady eye, but i prefer noel
Im getting High flying Orses 2moz hoping for summat better than this repetitive throwaway , Im after depth of genius that Noel is, I hope he aint past his sell-by date as I need him.
It's like 1994 all over again. Proper Oasis style B sides that should be on the album but because they r not it makes Noel that much more of a genius. Ok it sounds like Slade and Bob dylan in places but name me one song that doesn't sound like something! All R&B has the same lyrics, vocal lines and more to the point has no depth and is the Hitler of music! ....Noel ur the man...'Because we need eachother'
Beady eye are shit, i thinkLiams cool but crudd album, Noels new tunes need to step up, music is rubbish just now!! 97 what a good year!! when the drugs wgere real!!
I really need to get this off my chest.. I expected a lot more from Noel as a solo artist. I always thought of him as the better musician compared to Liam, but so far I'm more impressed with Beady Eye.. Maybe It's because I didn't expect as much of Beady Eye I don't know.. Anyways, hope to hear some real good work (from both of them) soon. (If there are any songs from Noel or BE you think are worth hearing, feel free to send me a link)
Perhaps because you wanted one or both to sound like Oasis, but Noel's not touching the same areas he usually does and is trying to sound different? My belief is the Oasis fans who want sound of 1994-1997 back like Beady Eye, while the Oasis fans who just love good music and not any specific style or time tend to favor Noel. I could be wrong, and it dangerous to make such a broad assumption, but it seems that way to me. Do tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm really tired of all the Beady Eye vs Noel Gallagher arguments on ANY of the videos that involve either of the two. It's absurd. Look, Beady Eye is going to have more of that old fashioned rock n roll feel, more swagger, and Liam's voice. Noel's going to have gorgeous melodies, more surreal lyrics, and a much more subtle approach overall. It's what you prefer. If you're like me, you'll love both with slightly more reverence towards one or the other (Noel in my case), but they're both great
@TheRedChannels You are absolutely right. I completely agree. Except from the fact that I like Beady Eye slighty more. It's just personal preferences. Let's just sit back and enjoy some great music from both of them.
@TheRedChannels I dont get what the big deal was... I took the 5 best Beady Eye songs... and the 5 best Noel songs and put them together in iTunes and pretended like it was an Oasis album.
so great to have Noel back, I love Liam and he was always my fav out of the two for some reason but Noel is a top song writer he really is. He songs are so great but so simple, genius.
he should definitely have put this as an a-side... it has the best lyrics of the new stuff i find. love come down like rain / i dont care for the sunshine, sorta implies that the love isnt all good but still is much preferred, or maybe just that it hits him with such a force. thats my take anyway. i had more hopes for if i had a gun, but imo this is better.

I love oasis, but in my mind Noel is better then beady eye, because even in oasis i liked the songs that noel sung more because his voice is a bit deeper and seems more smooth and his genius lyrics are what made me really start liking oasis, nothing against beady eye, but i prefer noel

NOAL MUSIC BORING NOW :(
ironmine 4 months ago
It's like 1994 all over again. Proper Oasis style B sides that should be on the album but because they r not it makes Noel that much more of a genius. Ok it sounds like Slade and Bob dylan in places but name me one song that doesn't sound like something! All R&B has the same lyrics, vocal lines and more to the point has no depth and is the Hitler of music! ....Noel ur the man...'Because we need eachother'

noel you cheeky bastard - now i'll have to buy the album and all the singles to get these great b sides!

Noel has always been bad choosing B-Sides, hopefully one day he'll pull a "Masterplan" and put these all on their own album.
NightSurfer47 4 months ago
why does noel make better b-side then A-side?
(remember the masterplan?? was that a B-side?????)

Darkwing69Duck 4 months ago
@Darkwing69Duck

1000x better than Beady..something

The chorus sounds just like the bit of white lies song 'death' where it goes 'floating neither up or down..'
Great tune though, live forever noel gallagher!

It's amazing how this is a B-SIDE, yet it kicks more ass than 99% of A-Sides released nowadays.

If you're like me, you'll love both with slightly more reverence towards one or the other (Noel in my case), but they're both great
TheRedChannels 4 months ago 79
@TheRedChannels You are absolutely right. I completely agree. Except from the fact that I like Beady Eye slighty more. It's just personal preferences. Let's just sit back and enjoy some great music from both of them.

@TheRedChannels I dont get what the big deal was... I took the 5 best Beady Eye songs... and the 5 best Noel songs and put them together in iTunes and pretended like it was an Oasis album.
That works right!?

so great to have Noel back, I love Liam and he was always my fav out of the two for some reason but Noel is a top song writer he really is. He songs are so great but so simple, genius.
macaburna 4 months ago in playlist noel
he should definitely have put this as an a-side... it has the best lyrics of the new stuff i find. love come down like rain / i dont care for the sunshine, sorta implies that the love isnt all good but still is much preferred, or maybe just that it hits him with such a force. thats my take anyway. i had more hopes for if i had a gun, but imo this is better.
