  • Isn't this final too quick?

  • im playing the song in the begining for symphony!!! BERECUSE AND FINALE!

  • @Bubbles42313 well... the whole fifth part my symphony is playing!

  • thank you to carissa to share this beautiful ballet the fire bird is fabulous dancer

  • I dunno why, but I like listening to the finale of this straight after the sacrificial dance from rite of spring.

  • Goosebumps on the last note!!!

  • It would have been nice to have the Ballet Company named and when this production happened. Because of the stage setting and special effects, I'd say this was probably produced for a TV special. It is an eery and lovely presented ballet by a master composer.

  • by the dvd, guys, to watch this in a proper quality.

  • O my god!!!!!! Thank u do much for that!!! It's wuz probably the most beautiful ballet I've ever seen. Thank you so much :D

  • Stravinsky is the number one. Thanks for uploading!

  • Oh my god, that was so beautiful..... I'm so glad I cam across this

  • this is beautiful but can someone please explain to me the storyline of this ballet

  • @dancer12396 Type 'The Firebird' into Google and click on the first search result. Scroll down and you'll see the storyline :)

  • The finale is too high (in key) and is too fast. everything was going so good until the rushed finale. but even though the finale seems like someone's pointing a gun to the maestro's back and make him rush like a demon it is beautiful and sublime. BRAVO!

  • @parodycreator25 Have you heard the Fantasia 2000 interpretation. Perfect speed and everything. Not that this rendition wasn't beautiful! I need to read the storyline/watch the entire ballet

  • @Kyalanasarake yeah the fantasia 2000 was almost perfect, search the wikipedia article it's really complete, :D

  • How did Ivan find out about the egg in this version? In the Royal ballet one we actually see the Firebird "telling" him about it.

  • Well . . . hearing the music just made me want to go watch one of my all time favorite clips from Fantasia!

  • WOW

  • The finale seemed quite rushed to me. Plus it isn't in the right key, either

  • @bcgn5 Yeah, it was a bit rushed. It wasn't as profound as when it is drawn out more.

  • What a beautiful production! Thank you for posting

  • Im glad Justin Bieber hasn't found this yet. He would of disliked it.

  • The staging and choice of choreography for the finale doesn't do the theme justice. It is a song of healing and joy. Making it seem like a ballroom dance is almost frigid. But other than that, I loved it.

  • I don't think there's ever been a more majestic/beautiful closing in the history of music than The Firebird.

  • @FaithIsAnnoyed I'm inclined to agree... I like a huge variety or music, both modern and classical, but the finale of The Firebird is really one of the most triumphant endings I've ever heard.

  • perfect moves but lacks presence....not trying to be mean,,,

  • perfect moves but would really like to see more feeling and passion her mood is blank...choregraphy perfect--

  • The princess is lovely, and the Firebird is magnificent, but Ivan is a bit of an idiot, isn't he?

  • Tahnk you for putting this up!! Enjoyed every minute of it!!

  • Stravinsky is truly a genius. I loved every second of this. Thanks for posting!

  • What a moving performance. The art work is magnificent. This interpretation of Stravinsky fits perfectly.

    BRAVO!

  • Theme-stealing has been going on back and forth between composers for hundreds of years.

  • Wow... the firebird looks so erotic... beautiful dance though

  • really great interpretation.

  • Does anyone else notice that its in the wrong key?

  • @lester1013 Two options: Pitched it down to avoid issues with assholes who might try to claim this as copyrighted material, because the Firebird isn't public domain in most of the world yet, or played down for some reason.

  • I have this on DVD. Love it. Stravinsky's music is STUNNING and the ballet is too.

  • Lovely fairy tale production. But I'm always really annoyed that Stravinsky stole the two principal themes from his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov.

  • who is the firgue on the horse at the beginning and end??? The bird???

  • By the end it all makes sense. He's the Sultan of Agrabah.

  • Can someone please upload the complete Scheherazade ballet with Andris Liepa in it? His sister Ekaterina is a court maiden in it & I do not recall the ballerina doing the role of the queen. I think it is so beautiful just like this ballet. Andris directed both these ballets & it is superb. Thank you!

  • This whole production was lovely, thank you so much for uploading it!

  • This series is brilliant! What a beautiful artistic creation! :)

  • I always start crying during the triumphant swell of the final score...

  • How anyone finds this boring is beyond me.

  • @foreignboy221 hey there, sorry about the down vote, it was a weird accident; I meant to vote up. I completely agree with you, this is absolutely amazing .. .

  • @jii9991345 haha that's fine! I've done it before too. You press it and then you're just like... OMG NO lol. ;P

  • @foreignboy221 I tend to find ballet quite boring, I go for the music (but being a composer, I suppose that makes things right in my world)

  • @slaytesics I agree. Kind of. Ballet isn't my thing as much as the music is, but I don't necessarily find it boring. I do focus on the music aspect though more than anything. I'm a clarinetist/composer myself, so I understand where you're coming from haha.

  • @foreignboy221 Yep, I second you.

  • Harf note higher I think

  • I am sitting here at the end wanting MORE! Oh my! Oh my!

  • Magnificent production and performance. A great joy to behold. Thanks for posting this gem. ...love it.

  • The High Culture of the West is under siege from the despotic and despicable forces of the Multicults. This recording is to be held against the day when, as must be, the enemy is defeated, and Enlightenment once again seated on her throne.

  • Nina doesnt have the most amazing feet ever but wow can she dance! She is absolutely beautiful! This just goes to show that you dont have to have super pretty feet to be an amazing ballerina

  • How could they let the finale be in the wrong key, the best part?? This whole ballet's music is a step up! :(

  • Increible... quede sin palabras!... :) Recomendada 100%!!!

  • speechless, thank you so much for sharing

  • Ah I always get chills hearing the end of this ballet. Probably one of the most recognized endings ever, yet it still has the power to make me smile. Bravo Stravinsky!

  • I just finished downloading anf 'merging' the 5 parts of 'Firebirf' you so kindly posted! It is magnificent and I personaly think Andris Liepa is beyond cmpare! Thank you so much.

  • Wonderful

  • I look at this and this, 'wth, that looks persian' then i remember that russia is where persia was.

  • 2:15 wtf

  • The power of fairytales: this thing has the storybook ending that Disney tried to capture in each of his feature length cartoons, for half a century.

  • @bookkeeper57

yes, Disney missed a trick here I think. It would make a great film for children. The animation they put with the music on Fantasia was lovely but I'm not sure why they didn't just use the original story. It's a perfect fairytale!

  • What the fuck means TTC (It needs no creativity to close my account) today my fourth foal born and 8000 channel views but no flip cam.

  • Great dancing. I've no idea what the storyline is but it looks as if the Firebird saved the human beings from man size flesh eathing slugs.

  • @bookkeeper57 you would be right :) lol

  • @bookkeeper57 it's more involved that that.

The ballet centers on the journey of its hero, Prince Ivan. Ivan enters the magical realm of Kashchei the Immortal; all of the magical objects and creatures of Kashchei are herein represented by a chromatic descending motif, usually in the strings. While wandering in the gardens, he sees and chases the Firebird. The Firebird, once caught by Ivan, begs for its life and ultimately agrees to assist Ivan in exchange for eventual freedom.

  • @bookkeeper57 Then…

Prince Ivan sees thirteen princesses, with one of whom he falls in love. The next day, Ivan chooses to confront Kashchei to ask to marry one of the princesses; the two talk and eventually begin quarreling. When Kashchei sends his magical creatures after Ivan, the Firebird, true to its pledge, intervenes, bewitching the creatures and making them dance an elaborate, energetic dance (the "Infernal Dance").

  • @bookkeeper57 Lastly…

The creatures and Kashchei then fall asleep. While Kashchei is bewitched by the Firebird she tells Ivan the secret to Kashchei's immortality - his soul is contained inside an enormous, magical egg. Ivan destroys the egg, killing Kashchei. With Kashchei gone and his spell broken, the magical creatures and the palace all disappear. All of the "real" beings (including the princesses) awaken and celebrate their victory.

  • It's frustrating - I feel almost tonedeaf when it comes to ballet, and it's the only art form where I really feel that way at this point. I mean, I'm a classically-trained pianist and singer and I compose, act, etc., but I just have no background - viewing or performing - in the area of dancing; especially ballet.

The comments I'm seeing on these videos is making me want to see more, though, so I can develop some sort of feel for the art. I mean, at least out of respect for the dancers.

  • The Firebird is not the easiest ballet to understand. I would recommend one with more miming and more classical movements, because this one is quite bizarre (although fascinating) as ballets go.

I recommend that you look around for the 1994 version of the Sleeping Beauty by the Royal Ballet. (Don't look at the more recent versions of he same production, they've "sweetened" it a bit so it looks like a little kid's story, and I feel like it's lost a bit of the spark.)

  • @Lomelindi88 Thanks for the recommendation; I'll look it up. Musically, I understand modern stuff well, but I guess dance styles can get just as avant-garde in the twentieth century as any other art form has managed to, so it's probably best to start by seeing more classical repertoire.

  • You're very welcome! :) I'm glad to see a non-dancer try so hard to understand ballet, it's frustrating that a lot of people give up on watching it because they find it "boring".

  • Nina is soooo hot. WOW. If she told me to dance until I fell asleep, I'd just say, "more please"

  • Eternal applause for Nina Ananaishvili, the great Georgian prima ballerina. Bravo to Andris Liepa for this inspired production. I have it on DVD and will probably wear it out.

  • as the poster of this knows, it's a Decca release, at least the version i have on dvd. It's titled Return of the FIrebird and features FIrebird, Petrushka and Scheherazade. I haven't checked to see if it's out on Blu-ray but i'll buy it again if it is.

  • Beautiful! Genius! Bravo! :)

  • What! You must have been watching a parallel youtube. At best, Stravinsky is the Puccini of music.

  • what an amazing version of the original firebird. I´m totally speechless, all 5 parts are extraordinary, I love the original score, really stravinsky was the greatest genius ever!!!

  • Stagey and trite. Stravinsky belongs in the lower echelons of composers. Without Nijinsky's production of Rite of Spring, he would have been dead and buried.

  • @rlneesam are you an imbecile, or merely a moron?

  • The Finales tempo is crazyyyyyy fast :-(

  • So is the second half of the Lullaby! I've never heard it played that fast. haha.

Also, the bassoon plays an altered pitch that I've never heard anywhere else in the 4th measures after rehearsal 186. They play a Db instead of D natural. Something that I've heard people argue over, but never heard it actually played as a Db...

    I'm a nerd.

  • The problem may be the disparities between the original 1910 and revised 1919 (not to mention 1945!) versions: the referenced example - D nat. in the 1910---Db in the 1919 (the conductor and/or the bassoonist might have simply preferred the latter). Good detective work, and good luck trying to untangle the pitch problems.
