Make sure you use poly pro wing material, it floats, you may not be able to see them but they get stuck in the surface film. I just cast and pretend I know where it is and if I see a ripple I lift the rod. You can also put floatant on the leader. I also use lighter fluid with parafin wax in it. you just drown the fly in it and when it dries it is impregnated with parafin wax. You nay want to add a small bit of foam on the back on top of the wings or use more wing material. LOL
I have done the split tail like that for years on tricos and others. I saw a guy do it at a show since so I figured others would like to see it. I tie tricos #20-24 like this and they are easy and work well. Any fly that takes less than 5 minutes and works is a good fly.
These flies are so small i cant get them to float, even with floatant. What should I do?
