  • This talented woman had such class. Wish her life had been better and longer. -------------The only thing I want to say regarding the common, often disappointing topic of race is that mixed genes are healthy. In the end you love the one you love.

  • Dorothy Dandridge has been my dream girl since I was 8. I'm 53 and she still

is/was the most beautiful woman in the WORLD. Good Night, ANGEL. MSA.

  • GORGEOUS, JUST BREATH TAKING SHE TRULY WAS!!!!

  • Just beautiful, she was ...:-)*~~~

  • From what I know about Dorothy Dandrige, She was a good girl in the world of Sharks!!!

It was a glamorous hard knock life n she didnt know how to pick a good man, struggle struggle n more struggle: she did not deserve the type of life she lived

Beauty or sucess is sometime a curse, u will realise that the most beautiful women of this world had the most messed up life: Marilyn Monroe (Dorothy's Friend), Elisabeth Taylor, Noemie Lenoir, Coco Chanel, Kartoucha and many more...

  • Since Black American slave women were raped by WHITE plantation owners and WHITE overseers of the plantations for over 300 years, most African Americans have been foceably infussed with white blood. This has created a mixed look overtly evident in people like Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne, both of who had two "Black" parents... as a result being Black or African American is not synonomous with being 100% African. I hope this ends the discussion!

  • I jus came on here to see more of Dandrige since doing a bio about her for my speech class and i see all of this arguring about her being biracial. Lord have mercy. Is anyone in America pure black, i dont think so. I hate to burst a lot of peoples bubble but she's not biracial.

  • It's a shame Hollywood then saw Dorothy as a "Negro" woman and not as just a "woman" who was so worthy of playing leading roles in A or even B movies. Back then, and even today, black women are shut out of main stream leading lady roles in box office hits unless it's a movie about Black people. Why can't people be cast for their talent rather than for their color. Is America still that narrow minded and discriminating? What a shame to buy into what this industry dishes out.

  • @eaedc I'm glad to see someone like you post something that is so true with the industry/color, but then it's funny when you say that they'll say were racists, but they are towards us and it's been like this for decades.

  • @jazsan222 Actually we're both wrong. Her father was more white than he was black in appearance. His mother was physically white, so that may be why the rumor of her being half black/white exists. Even Halle Berry stated that rumor. I have no idea how Dorothy viewed herself. It seemed like lots of blacks accepted her; it was whites that didn't.

  • @MaraDelana U are correct, and she also had a preference of white men....but i read that her father was a very handsome man.

  • this is stupid. if dorothy was born this day in age she would be considered african american. if you are more than half black, you are considered black not mixed. I have the same ancestry as her and I am considered black. If people ask if I'm biracial, when I tell them my family history, I am considered black. It seem like people never want to give black genes their credit when someone is beautiful smh retards.

  • @biancablack101 Nobody is refusing that fact but people here keep leaving comments about her being fully black which SHE WASN'T. That is why many of us are trying to debate with these people. She was clearly multi- racial but would be seen in the same league as Obama and Oprah.

  • @funniandloved what is fully black in america?

  • @biancablack101 Bitch just SHUT UP, i am tired of going round in circles and repeating myself....take some time to read my previous posts........

  • @biancablack101 I admire wat u said coz it's the freakin truth, 2 me she was black coz @ that time she struggled 2 get jobs because even tho she was so talented!!!

She is light skinned because one on her ancestors (African slaves) was either raped or having a relationship wit the slave's master sometimes not by choice it's jst 2 have better treatment or being freed...

Dorothy Dandrige never said she was mixed and her parents are black!!!

  • Dorothy Dandridge is a very beautiful woman and I can only imagine how hard it was for her to strive as a black woman in that error of time. I myself am a light skinned black woman. My father is bi racial and my mother is black. If you saw me then yes you would think I was bi racial but that is not the case. So I do beleive that Dorothy could have been a black woman. Still it is hard for light skinned beautiful women in this century.

  • Dorothy Dandridge has often been called the "black Marilyn Monroe." Well I'm one white guy who thinks she was actually hotter than Marilyn ever was. Dorothy was a major babe!

  • Dorothy was beautiful....and NO she didn't have a white Father....her Father was a black man from OHIO...I have every book written about her...Please !

  • @sattinnfires Her father was multiracial and neither white nor black

  • That was beautiful

  • bi racial beauty is the best ever created on earth

  • Comment removed

  • No offense but Dorothy Dandridge had a white father, and the most common admixture of most African Americans is 80% subsaharan black African and 20% white European, which makes kinky, not quite curly hair and facial features similar to West Africans common. There is nothing wrong with that. Just as there is nothing wrong with those who have other ancestry besides black to claim that in addition to their black ancestry and not identifying only as black, especially if their phenotype supports it.

  • @MaraDelana no, our wrong her ather was blck.sh was notmix. iif it was before the 60;s or 70's then it could not happen. because we were separate

  • @MaraDelana I don't think phenotype appearance should limit one from claiming ones ancestors. In the end everyone is unique and should be celebrated for being unique, and yet we are all the same in that we are all human.

  • She was a beautiful BIRACIAL WOMAN

  • she was a beautiful Biracial woman

  • All I know & care about : this was one incredibly gorgeous lady, talented, & classy Enough said . Wolfsky9

  • Why all you ass holes turn this whole thing into racism. Now I dont even want to watch this video. Be the first to stop racism by being ignorant to it. Fuck racism.

  • Why is it that she looks like she's being taken advantage of in all of the video shots?

  • this is who people should idolized along with Marilyn and audury

  • Dorothy Dandridge was a mulatto. It's eerie watch her b/c she looks so much like Halle Berry, also a mulatto. Our poor mulatto sisters were forced to playing sex pots or no deal. Yes, I'm a mulatto too, be it high yella.

  • @shannontheguy Don't you mean Halle Berry looks like Dorothy?..lol

  • @shannontheguy dorothy was not mullatto

  • @90rashad she was a mulatto ; her father was mulatto and her mother was black (with white and native american ancestry)

  • @simmiboi90 how can u be black with white and native ancestry? she was multiracial. multiracial + multiracial = another person OF COLOR

  • @Rockstafeller im not multiracial...im black...nd my great great great grandfather was white nd i have native american in me but im still black u couldnt even tell that i have that in me but im BLACK.

  • @alexzandriajanai cool, having a white grandpa so far back does not make you non-black

obviously, Dandrige's admixture was more recent

  • @90rashad Lol Dorothy Dandridge was mulatto. sweety. If you want to talk of black actresses in the 50's to 60's talk of Diahann Caroll (Diahann Caroll was a beautiful black actress during her time).

  • Dorothy Dandridge is still the hottest woman in hollywood. She was underated acter and need to be look at bigger than Marylin Monroe. Dorothy Dandridge was 20 time more beautiful than Marylin Monroe..!

  • @suzukidas2 i agree 100% but they used to be very close friends they were often in contact but people don't mention that on the bio's and she is still the hottest in hollywood nowdays there so much make up plastics suregy but not back then it was beauty on his finest so do Dorothy and Marilyn

  • @suzukidas2 They don't want to see a black women over a white women and the same with men too, but it's a shame about her lifestyle.

  • @suzukidas2 i 100% agree with you i always think that ! she was so much under rated if it was nowdays she will be one of the Legend in Hollywood and would win many oscars celebrations for more then a decade now hollywood is full of bullshits! there less good actors .. everything is made by computers all the real celebrity are all gone ... best time for americans movies was the oldies thats it !

  • She was a beautiful flower both inside and out. They don't make them like that anymore. JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!

  • A Dorothy Dandrige was born after her death. And her name is Halle Berry... i love them both

  • Great tribute. I like the music. What is the name of this song?

  • Not to be fighting but any black person whose family has been in the us for 100 years or more is mixed. And the reasons they were referred to as black usually had to do with exclusion. In the south for example the law was if you had 1 drop of African blood you were considered black. It was to keep people from owning property and from voting.

In the south you still hear color gradient terms like paper sack brown, pecan tan , redbone and high yellow.

  • @sweatyhot classic fucked up argument. just because there is grey doesnt mean black and white dont exist

and OBVIOUSLY LOOK THE FUCK AROUND, OVERWHELMING MAJORITY IS 80% BLACK, THEREFORE WHITE ANCESTRY BARELY INFLUENCES THEIR FACIAL FEATURES.

OBVIOUSLY, again, look the fuck around and tell me if your average AA woman looks like Halle Berry, Dandridge, Horne and Beyonce?

  • @Rockstafeller hmm I don't know where that is coming from but I have some very beautiful women in my family. My heritage is also mulatto but in this day and time I usually identify as African American.

  • Very sad that she was ahead of her time...just wasted.

  • what were the names of the movies played in this video?

  • @way2girly Tamango(1958), The Harlem Globetrotters(1951), Malaga also known as Moment of Danger(1960), The Decks Ran Red(1958).

  • @misterkgb1 thanks :]

  • Dorothy Dandridge and Angela basset are two of teh greatest black actresses of all time.

  • It makes me sad that the caliber of African-American actors and actresses were never tapped.... Paul Roberts, Sidney Poitier, Clevand Little and Dorothy Dandridge, Ertha Kitt, Leonore Horn ...This is a short list of my dream team. Sometimes I get lost and wish for a time machine... I would have loved to work with these classic folks. Oh well.... all the stories that we can only imagine?

  • Dynamite lady

  • @dramactica I never said they were actresses if you cannot read words do not reply I said they were beautiful women who died while they were still young

  • @laydeyduchess Yes...so many of them died too young like Dorothy, Linda Darnell, Natalie Wood, Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, I think the truth is, they all lived life in the fast lane..Like they say...if you live by the sword... Beauty is not always a blessing.

  • She was definitely a beauty,i always wonder what ever happened to her daughter?!

  • Dorothy was not only a stunning beauty but a very talented actress. Black or white, it doesn't matter to me... the lady had it all !

  • Will someone hit me up and tell me what the name of this Jazz selection is. It is amazing!!! I sooooo love it! Who is this artist and the name of the song????

  • @Kenandave The name of the song is "Almost An Angel" By Fattburger, they have a few CD"s available, this one is from 1992 !

  • damn this woman was so beautiful. although she lived a short life she paved the way for many black actresses to be where they are right now. it's still a struggle but it's a change. such a beautiful woman.

  • the great always die while their beauty is still timeless Dorothy, Aaliyah, Lisa Left Eye Lopez, and many more its a higher power that we cannot argue with and when they go we know they are happier there than here I love you Dorothy may I met you in heaven one day

  • @laydeyduchess

Aaliyah and Lisa Left Eye Lopez? they aren't top or class actors. they are trash.

  • BLACK BLACK BLACK.... I get so freaking tired of people arguing over her race instead of her talent. Even in her freaking death! The irony is all of a sudden white people want to claim her but she was overlooked for talentless cunts like Grace Kelly in the 50's

  • @MiztaBeyonceHimself

excuse me Grace Kelly can act. I'm sorry she was overlooked but don't blame the greatest actresss of all time.

  • @MiztaBeyonceHimself "The irony is all of a sudden white people want to claim her but she was overlooked for talentless cunts like Grace Kelly in the 50's" - true, and if she wasnt mixed, then you wouldnt hear about her and she would have 0 of career in the first place

  • Hauntingly Beautiful! 3:00 to 3:03

  • Dorthy Dandrige mother was Black, Native American, Jamaican and African American, her father's was black mixed with white. She identified as a black woman, and was treated like one. A lot of black people have multigenerational mixed roots and call themselves black. She is clearly mixed, many and a lot of black people are mixed in some type of way, color and complexion does not mean anything. You can be dark brown with a lot of Native or white ancestry.

  • @MANDAWAH Her mother was also part mexican too.

  • Why do we worry about what color she is? Shes beautiful .Period.

Lets move past this kind of stuff.

  • Dorothy Dandridge is very beautiful and she black. There are beautiful people in every race and not just white people so get over yourselves!

  • She looks prettiest as the African queen at 4:46

  • shes gorgeous i didnt think she was this beautiful ,,, alle berry was perfect for the part !!

  • elevator music???

  • ms.dandrige was georgeous and talented.A true 'Movie Star.'

  • word! wats up wit the music? lol

  • The music?

  • She was beyond beautiful even for the times she lived in.

  • Fantastic collection of movie clips & pics. Thanks for posting. Good that you included pic of rat Denison - a rat like Harold Nicholas who didn't even help pay for Harolyn's care. She sure fell in love with a string of smucks, but then Ruby & Ma-ma Neve were hateful & really messed her up

  • people find anything to argue about on youtube...haha

  • @sdcool07 lol.. I know right. post a vid of puppies playing... why did the white dog have to attack the black dog, huh, huh... lol

  • Halle portrayed her beautifully.

  • In the film with all that hair she looks like chili from TLC.

  • @missasegei lmao! stop it

  • OK..... "hangs head"..

  • There's a cute shot of Dorothy Dandridge and her sister dancing in the Marx Bros. film "A Day at the Races (The Swing)" here on YouTube. They were very talented and pretty sisters. But even so, no more pretty and talented than so many other black women like Lola Falana, Judy Pace, Brenda Sykes. I wish there were more tributes to darker-skinned black beauties like Judy Pace, Brenda Sykes. If you have any footage available, please post. Thx!

  • Beautiful woman she was and an excellent actress...Janet Jackson looks just like her in some pics...

  • This tribute is wonderful. The music is great. What is the song?

  • I guess its true what they say "Black don't crack" This woman was totally ageless still beautiful today

  • Dorothy had many looks, its hard to tell who she really resembles.Feature wise, Halle comes close.

  • You say that the Harlem Globetrotters came out in 1951. I did not know the Harlem Globetrotters were gay!

  • I'm talking about the movie.

  • She really did look like Halle Berry.

  • Halle Berry se parece físicamente a Dorothy Dandrige, pero no tiene la personalidad y la naturalidad de esta. Es más plástica.

  • hey. what is the movie at 4:48? thanks

  • The Harlem Globetrotters came out in 1951.

  • She just HAD to be played by Janet Jackson!!! :(((((( They look almost identical at times!

  • Gorgeous and Talented describes Dorothy, Daughter of Ruby a comedian in motion pictures of 30 and 40's.

  • she's so pretty

  • Whatever she was, she was born 20 or 30 years too soon.

  • is she pure black or mixed with another race?

  • @la6ofa --I've been reading all of these post about my relative, some people post stuff and I guess don't think that some of her relatives would read them. My relative is black and if you saw our family album you would see for yourself!!! I've just been sitting back reading the post some good and some negative!

  • OMG SHE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE JANET JACKSON.

Its freaky..........but God she is gorgeous, what a lady.

  • SHE LOOK LIKE ALICIA KEYS TO ME

  • So Beautiful. And i am so thankful she was a part of our lives if only for a time. This Lady will Live forever. One of a kind and all class.

  • Agree with yu 100%,.. Truly 1ne of a kind,..

  • Where does this song come from?

  • she looks like jessica alba, halle berry, and janet all rolled into one

  • I say the exact same thing!

  • Dorothy was beautiful but America was not ready for her.

  • she was beyond beautiful........

  • she looks like her stop tryna relate her to someone of today she looks like dorothy dandridge not janet terria marie or beyonce similar to halle berry only because she played her in the movie leave it be and enjoy the clips

  • yep at 231 she looks alot like halle

  • i might be wrong but if you look closely does anyone think she looks like tierra marie?

  • Maybe it's just me but I'm trying to figure out what exactly is Dorothy Dandridge-ish about Janet's features? No offense to you Janet fans, but you guys are pretty much as delusional as they come.

  • janet jackson looks like her more than anyone..i think Janet should have played her :-(

  • My mother & I agree with U totally....

  • I was agreeing with bluAngel814....

  • I agree that they look alike but janet isn't a powerful enuf actress and halle berry is

  • TRAGIC !

  • In love with her since I was 8 years old. MSA.

  • she looks like a mix between halle berry and janet jackson

  • she really does....lol

  • Her biography was well researched. Such a beautiful spirit. Sadly, for "Dottie," leading black women were not and is not what "Freakwood" envisions today.

RIP Sista...SPIRIT knew you and that is all that mattered.

  • She was an angel. Loved her in "Carmen Jones".

  • i swear her face reminds me so much of ester baxter

  • who or whom is playing the music? I love it. Please someone tell me....

  • The song is called "Almost An Angel" by the group Fattburger.

  • thank u jazzcat314......i'm sure a lot of us have been waiting for your answer...

    ~_~

  • you guys have to read her biography, it's what made me really like her...i always liked how she ate healthy through out the week and on Sundays she would throw down in the kitchen and eat her favorite, collard greens and chittlins...lol

  • Love a white man or not she still knew who she was and her mother reminded her of that...

  • OMG!! I love Dorothy Dandridge. It's just something about her. She is sooooooooooo beautiful. She makes me laugh as well. Especially in Carmen Jones.

  • angel face

  • Dorothy was a phenomenal woman in many ways, and I will always be a die-hard fan. Her beauty is still unmatched to this day

  • Thanks for sharing this. I never knew how beautiful she realy was. This is one beautiful unsung woman.

  • Someone in her family is obvisously white so what is wrong with her loving her some white man. You love who you love.

  • It's a shame that this world has taught us not only to hate others but also ourselves, its tragic that her life ended in the way that it did, but i applaud her memory for the great work that she did and her shortcomings notwithstanding, she should be heralded for the great woman she was, beautiful, talented and it seems born out of time. we all have our imperfections so why should we expect her not to, i mean, look at what she had to endure, the broken promises, the disappointments.

  • (continued part 2)

she was awesome and there is no denying that, anyone who hates on her or her memory is just plain stupid and ignorant, and to you who created an posted this compilation i give you high praise for a work that was much appreciated, the montage was superb and the music was exquisite,,,,,if you or anyone can give me the name of that soundtrack and its artist, it will be much appreciated,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,kudos

  • black men love their white women whats the point she was beautiful

  • What's the name of this song? And, what's the name of the band? I love this!!!

  • Comment removed

  • So there "Black" period !@!

  • I have read alot of the posts.

Listen it doesn't really matter what blood flowed thru her Beautiful veins. She was a Beautiful Angel. A Beautiful Woman. A Human Being. All of this race talk is crazy! Im a Beautiful, Proud American Lady of Color.

I love all that I am, and I love all that I'm not.

    It's all good.

    All people are Beautiful.

From the Whitest Ivory, to the Deepest Ebony.

There is no better, no worst.

    We are all just people.

    It's all good.

  • @lovelyjessie79 It just can't be said any better than that.....!

  • I have always thought that she looked like Kim Fields more than Halle or Janet. Miss Dorothy was a BEAUTIFUL legend.

Whoever made this video, Great Job!

  • devilgog2002 how the fuck can you say that dorothy is a white men's whore/trash. You need to shut the fuck up and quit talking about dorothy badly and saying " she die alone, naked and pennniless on the floor like she deserved. And you think halle berry should suffer the same. If i were you need to quit talking about dorothy dandridge and halle berry.

  • Personally, I think she resembles a young Liz Taylor.

  • I can see it

  • O M G....Those eyes!!!!

  • ohh my god..that lady is gorgeous!!wow

  • she looks like a mix of janet jackson and halle

  • She really did have a face of an Angel! luv the background music!

  • I just wanna know who the music is by. The music is absolutely awsome.

    F.M.

  • prettier than halle berry!

  • yeah halle does resemble dorothy and queen resembles pearl b, i do think janet is beautiful sure she's had some work done. who hasnt i do thnk that janet can pull off the lena horne if she is given permission to play her..

  • Janet is that you? Seriously. Halle resembles Dorothy the same way that Alicia Keys and Queen Latifah resemble Lena Horne and Pearl Bailey respectively. Janet has her smile in several pics, but that's pretty much where any resemblance ends. Dorothy was a dramatic beauty with cafe au lait skin and sharply defined features. Her beauty was known to silence all conversation when she stepped in a room. Janet's beauty, on the other hand, is artificial and at times it can be very cartoon-ish.

  • halle AND alicia has BOTH had NOSE JOBS and if you dont believe me, look up ' halle berrys nose job' and 'alicia keys nose job'- ON TOP OF THAT, halle had a boob job YEARS ago, so does that also mean they are artificial beauties as well? YES. Even so, janet was ALWAYS beautiful, much before she had her nose job, which was only a slight change, if you look at her childhood pictures. whereas halle and alicia's noses were actually bigger than janets NATURAL one b4 they had surgery - FOOLED MUCH?

  • You are sooo right.I agree with yuou.

Janet was already gorgeous without her nose done.......

    xoxoxo

  • alicia did have a nose job .. So did Halle you're right.

  • I see more of Janet in Dorothy than Halle.

  • What movie is that at 1:35?

  • Tamango

  • Why is there confusion about if Dorothy was Black? Being Black in America often means being a mixture of white also. Nothing new. The one drop rule hasn't gone anywhere. Dorothy called herself Black "Negro" she ought to have known. I'm surprised a photo of her good for nothin' white husband Jack Denison was included in this tribute. He was a vicious abuser who beat Dorothy and stole nearly all her money. He made such a fool out of her, that I'd bet she wished she never met that deceptive snake.

  • Great tribute.

  • What a gorgeous woman! I see the striking resemblance between her and Halle Berry.

I dont know if she is mixed, shaken, or stirred but she is stunning.

  • ya know...she does look a lot like halle...but i see a TAD bit of janet jackson in there too...you just have to look real REAL close

  • to me she sctually favor halle berry and kim fields very beautiful woman she was

  • She is a mixture of Janet Jackson and Halle Berry, both ladies are soft-spoken 7 classy, fitting the title of Dorothy.

  • Who played her in the tv movie?

  • Halle berry

  • Also, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Jasmine Guy... Just to name a few are doing things relating to her life as well.
