who an idiot! that guy from rolling stone.. ther not "mainstream successes" cause MAINSTREAM sucks!!!! Indie music all the way! thats true music nowadays
THanks to my friend who is 50 years old who gave me his Ipod and Wilco is on it as well as Ryan Adams and many many more amazing artists musicians I am so grateful for knowing my friend and getting turned on to Wilco
@dodie2casey I wouldn't say UT was much better or even better. But if you really like that sound you can listen to Son Volt. Jay is still playing the same lick.
@aefkjj Actually, Son Volt, especially in its second configuration, has done quite a bit of experimental stuff. Maybe more than I would like. But nothing that tests my patience quite like self-indulgent noise of "Less Than You Think." Not that I hate Wilco. I think the Mermaid Avenue albums were great. But there was a certain something in Uncle Tupelo's sound, especially on March and Anodyne, that I just don't hear in Wilco or Son Volt.
@dodie2casey Do you know what? I agree about the Mermaid Avenue recordings! Billy Bragg was the perfect coupling for that. As far as Son Volt's second configuration, I'm going to check that out. :)
lmao @ the end does he say if he gets to keep being a rockstar.... this guy will never have to work a real job in his life with the talent he possess! such a great normal guy and i love it !!!!!!
i love wilco so much; they're probably my favourite band, and it's pretty much one of my life's goals to catch a show of theirs (haven't had any luck haha). whether or not wilco become even bigger than they already are makes no difference to me, as long as they continue to make the amazing music they make . . . wilco are always going to be something special!
The song actually isn't on any Wilco cds, but the clip is from 'Sunken Treasure' which is a DVD of Jeff Tweedy live solo performances. I think the song is an old school gospel song from the 30's, but I could be wrong.
Wilco aren't mainstream successes because they haven't sold themselves out. They've remained true to themselves since day one and that's why they are so admired by their fans. I highly doubt you'll ever hear them on the Top 40 radio stations. Which is fine by me.
even if mainstream isn't what they aim for, they are surely deserving of it. after Tweedy's work in Uncle Tupelo, Goldensmog, Minus 5, list goes on...it is mind boggling to think he isn't a huge rockstar. but it's amazing how humble and down to earth he is. not to mention Nells and the other guys in the band are just superb musicians
what makes this video have a 30 sec add? Is it special or something lol

Incredible. No mention of Uncle Tupelo, the much better band that gave Tweedy his start, and without which there would be no Wilco.

It's an old folk song, and the video is from Jeff's solo DVD, "Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest." It's totally worth buying.
