whats all this hype about winwood being better than clapton? who cares, they are BOTH great guitarists. stop being prissy and enjoy the music for once instead of fighting over it.
you kiddin' man? stevie and eric would be pissed if you said that. davy knowles, derrick trucks, and others will carry on. have you heard davy knowles cover this song "dear mr. fantasy" with the rhythm devils (30 year members of the grateful dead)? trust me, rock is not dead... just needs to be revised a bit, and get back to the basics that eric and steve started all those years ago, rather than the bull that is coming out today. all the death music and rap. rock will prevail...
OK. Where are the geniuses? We got Winwood and Clapton out of the 70's but they can't keep it up forever (or can they?). Who's out there making music that moves us? Music that's going to last? Is there anyone who can play their guitar at least?
It's over. Rock is dead and there won't be a new generation. I think even Little Richard has got more left than anyone else can put up against him.
@soaringvulture Geniuses? Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam, Derek Trucks of the Derek Trucks Band. There are still geniuses about they're just not as prominent.
I was at the show in Phoenix (Glendale) and as great as it was (and they dont come any better) it reminded me a bit of my own mortality. I am convinced that we probably will not have too many more opportunities to see and hear Eric, or Steve for that matter, live and in person. Age and the road take its toll on everyone, not least of all on rock stars who have used their nine lives and then some.
Yeah desertswo, mortality is a drag. Well, we all gonna die. But Winwood and Clapton ring it out on stage all the time. Every minute on stage is worth a year on the street, so they've lived a thousand years and are still going strong. I'm just thrilled that I can hear a moment in the lives of such great artists.
@desertswo Old Rockers Never Die 'They Only Fade away'.......I was blessed enough to -when in a 'rehab'(the Priory',Uk -during the early 90's - to have EC as one of my 'councellors' :he was an unbelievable source of Inspiration![and worked there free & 'incognito'!!!!]
Nice video quality especially since you were shooting the video off the big video screen. Nice post. There are more clips of Clapton & Winwood @ the crossroads music festival that were taken off a DVD. Those posts have great sound quality.
no matter how clapton looks he is still the same great guitarist!! Thumps up

The 70's were great, but "rock is dead"? Seriously? Have you heard Shinedown or Alice in Chains? Really?

Thats the problem these days, it's all about the money, and the fame. It's not about the craftsmanship and pure talent. Legends pure and simple.

I Love this music it's from a time when musicians actually had to play their instruments not just input into a velveetarizer to process the sound.

Who is that drummer?
Great job my him too and I assume Chris Stainton on organ

The drummer is the great Abe Laboriel, Jr., a man who delivers time and again.

@soaringvulture
Thanks--- He has worked with many of the best and so did his father. Quite a guy! He looks like a schmo but he delivers (like you said)

Boy you sure cant teach someone to sing like that or play solo's-the best were always self taught

@aa401888 Yeah, only God can make someone like Winwood and He doesn't do it very often. Just enough to show us what Heaven's like.
