  • how did you record this

P.S. hopefully this will resolve the conflict between the jerks and the defenders

  • @Phenickman I recorded the video using iMovie. At the same time, I recorded the audio using Garageband. I added some compression, reverb, etc. to the audio track if I remember correctly. I then put the audio track from Garageband into iMovie and tried to sync it with the video. That's why the synchronization may not be perfect.

  • cool. love the tone. obviously not faked. just take the nay-saying as a compliment: You are a lot better than they think you could be.

  • Great tone quality, unique

  • Thanks u gave me some ides for my bass solo

  • Sorry but I don't think he's playing

  • Wow guys you are all just losers sitting at home just looking for someone to pick on. This is real. If this was fake, he would have realized that his breaths were off sync and he would have gotten back on track. He makes mistakes just like me. Ive been playing for two and a half years. He wouldn't find a piece of music online that had mistakes and fake it. I like this guy's improv and I want to see what he does as he improves like me. Why don't you guys stop and go troll elsewhere.

  • nice try at "lip syncing" you can tell just by the acoustics of your recording and the timing of your breaths

  • Were to get the sheet music?

    this really nice song..

    thanks

  • @MrMusisiembongan It's from Jamey Aebersold #54 Maiden Voyage

  • @omgitsnotbob can you give me the copy of the sheet music?

  • Ok all you JERKS out there saying that this video is fake need to BACK OFF!!! First off ya so what he plays different than how you do that dosent make it fake! Also the reason for sound being off sync could have been the camera & youtube. Personaly i thought that you were amazing at playing so keep going on and ignor the jerks!

  • @kewlninjataco Thank you for the support!!

  • you can tell its fake cuz the air time isnt right when he plays, u can tell when his neck puffs up notes are going before it puffs

  • Hi

    Great playing

I have put this video on our website jazzesmusic.co.uk heading aebersold videos. we sell all aebersold playalongs

    Thanks

  • @SuperJazz1967 Thanks! That's awesome! I'm honoured!

  • go fuck yourself they it is fucking real and great. Nice playing could you tell me were to get the sheet music thanks.

  • @XXsaxaphoneXX Thanks, man! The sheet music and backing track are from Jamey Aebersold's #54: Maiden Voyage

  • This can't be fake becuz he messed up at 0:24

  • nice playing...i believe you 'cause i as a trombone player know the sync. problem between recording audio with a interface and video seperately with the cam..... the video is offten a few milliseconds slower....so stfu you haters and enjoy him play

  • I take great pride in playing my instrument. I know that this player is fake. Its very easy to see, becuz u take breaths and the horn is still playing some sound.

  • It seemed faked to me. I compared it to your pink panther theme video, and you didn't sound the same at all (besides the "big room" effect).

  • Comment removed

  • Ignore the morons insulting you and claiming you are fake. The other music is called a backing track you morons. I use them all the time to jam too and it's still me on my sax.

  • @DNAblues Thank you!

  • Sorry, even though it sounds good, this is fake. How could u say its not when the man is taking breaths and the horn is still playing? Yes, exactly.

  • Comment removed

  • i play the sax for real, and i dont appreciate this. u dont keep yur mouth on the sax while the music sustains. you open the octave key AFTER you are already on the upper end of the instrument. dont make a fake like this unless u have half a brain or the stomach for a youtube audience that is as stupid as you.

  • looks fake! but if its not nice job

  • Ok. Due to whatever you used to record yourself, plus the fact we can't see your hands makes this look like the fakest thing I have ever seen. However. Unless you ripped off someone else playing it and stuck it onto a video of yourself, thats good playing. For someone your age seriously good.

oh and fyi anyone can make the octave key go up and down to look like their playing.

  • its not fake because ur not really in the pocket.

  • nice FAKE playing.

stop mocking musicians who are better than you are by taking credit for THEIR playing.

  • @imakemusic27 This is not faked. Were I to fake it, I would find a better recording. If you want to talk about why this must be fake, please just spare everyone the trouble and read the other comments regarding this.

  • @imakemusic27 You're musically retarded if you think that this playing is considered "good" in the jazz world. This kid is just beginning to play jazz and improvise. It's extremely obvious. His playing is completely authentic, and is actually decent for a saxophonist his age. Stop insulting him because you don't understand what you're talking about.

  • @imakemusic27 you make music my ass; lets see you upload a video of you playing anything that takes any skill.

  • @imakemusic27 its fucking real you deadshit

  • hahaha good fake, but fake.

  • @DodsThe Read the other comments.

  • It's totally fake... U can tell cuz it sounds like it was recorded in a larger room plus theres piano and bass, and if u noticed he never showed his hand... And he's playing an alto and that song is arranged for tenor

  • @rand0mpr0 It sounds like it was recorded in a larger room because I added reverb and other effects after recording the audio track. There are piano, bass, and drums because I am playing to a backing track from Jamey Aebersold #54 Maiden Voyage. The fact that you don't really see my hands is just a result of the angle it which the video camera recorded it, but I can assure you that I am actually playing the notes (I believe you can see certain keys at the top of the sax move in parts anyway).

  • @rand0mpr0 As for the fact that the song is arranged for tenor, you're just wrong. I got the sheet music from Jamey Aebersold #54 Maiden Voyage, which has each song in C, Eb, Bb, and bass clef. I played the version that is in Eb and would thus be played on alto. Besides, if it were arranged for tenor, I could always just transpose the notes to be in Eb.

  • @rand0mpr0 lol he cant say anything against the tenor part

  • @rand0mpr0 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL 1. basic reverb 2. backing track 3. camera angle 4. you can play any song on any instrument regardless of what instrument you think it was named for 5. You FAIL

also, @omgitsnotbob check my vids (not plugging)

  • Soothing.

  • Lovely playing. I play the same piece but on guitar. Fabulous Jamey Aebersold backing tracks.

  • how the hell do you do that at 3:22 ! that is super sick (:

im play this song for my jazz combo and im trying to make my solos better.

    dude.

    youre hellacool (:

  • how the hell do you do that at 3:22 ! that is super sick (:

im play this song for my jazz combo and im trying to make my solos better.

    dude.

    youre helle cool (:

  • dude i love the way you look while playing :)

    looks very professional^^

  • how can I get that song?

  • @AETheMexican Jamey Aebersold's #54 Maiden Voyage book has the sheet music and backing track.

  • fuck this song; i cant do it . stupid flute. :|

  • Good sound kid.

  • @InBy9OutBy5 Thank you very much.

  • awesome ^ ^ O

  • @SKYGUARDY Thank you!

  • THATS FAKE!

I've been playing saxophone for 5 years, so I know.

  • Sorry to say, but that is faked.... The sound in the room we see could not possebly be like that. The soynd must have beed recorded elsewere, it migth have been you (I doubt it) but not in that room. Also the sound stops very sudden, a sign of you "clipping" in it.

  • @MrFredemb Oy vey.... I did not record this directly through the microphone that is on the video camera. I hooked up an external mic to the computer, and recorded the audio in Garageband at the same time as I recorded the video in iMovie. Then, I added some effects to make it sound more polished, and added the edited audio track to the iMovie video recording. If anything seems slightly off-sync, it's because I didn't sync the audio/video perfectly, but it's not fake.

  • @omgitsnotbob I understand.... VERY nice mic & Recording program then... And you said you had been playing for only 1 Year?!

  • @MrFredemb Yeah, about 1 year at that point.

  • @MrFredemb Yeah. About one year at that point.

  • how long have you been playing for ..?

  • @Marycharms When this video was made, I had been playing for almost exactly 1 year. Now I've been playing for a little over 3.

  • Who would want to fake this? The solo is tasteless to be honest. This guy is a classic player trying to play jazz.

  • If this was fake, there was no way the first low G was so flat and abrupt (no offense omgitsnotbob). It's just another young musician playing for your entertainment. No need to flame him or get all upset over it... geez...

  • @kthesuperior No offense taken, I'm glad somebody can realize that this would be a lot better if it were faked!

  • someone knows how to use sound manipulation programs ^^

  • Super!

What is the score and the grid?

    Thank you

  • super !

c'est quoi la partoch et la grille ?

    Merci

  • I think it is fake

  • OMG I remember this track. I used to practice this song many times back in middle school jazz band.

  • yeah...anyone can be mediocre..

  • I think he no touch

  • Very nicely done. I may suggest to center your mouthpiece on your mouth though, because that might lead to future problems with speech. second, use your range! You have an octave key for a reason. use the lowest notes and the highest to add interest. Chromatic scales work very well in something like this!

  • I was talking about the "very" top three keys (D,E,F) which are clearly visible on most parts but anyway, i'm not gonna argue... Let's say that I want to find it's fake just because i'm jalous :)

  • First of all, the sound quality makes it sound like you were recording in a large hall with some extremely good quality material and no interfering noise whatsoever. Second, even if we don't see most of the keys of the saxophone, the top three ones that are required to play these high notes are clearly never pressed... Then of course we could argue on the fact that your holding your mouthpiece in really weird way ! But hey, at least you have great music taste, not everything's lost ;)

  • @Didou82

    1) That's the wonder of digital recording. Recordings can sound high quality even when recorded on something simple like Garageband if you know what you're doing.

    2) You don't see the top three keys at all, so you can't say that they are not pressed down, and they are, in fact, pressed down.

    3) I tend to play with my mouthpiece in a somewhat odd position. That does not mean that I'm not playing the song; look at David Sanborn.

    4) If I were going to fake this, I would use a better track.

  • @omgitsnotbob ..yeah, shootin your self in the foot right there, because for example look at 1:22 you play some note i dont feel like finding and transposing right now, but anyway they dont move the whole time?

  • @Talis64 They're called alternate fingerings... High E, for instance, is like low and middle G, except the index finger is on the key above what it would be on to play G (the key that you press to play altissimo G), and high F is that, but without the ring finger. These fingerings do not utilize the often clumsy palm keys, which is why the palm keys are never pressed down.

  • @Talis64 Also, if you're talking about the note I think you're talking about, it's an altissimo G (If you had anything resembling an ear you would be able to recognize it as the tonic), which does not utilize the palm keys, and would not be visible in the view that is shown.

  • @Talis64 Besides, if I were going to to take the time to fake this, I would find a better track to pretend to play... My improvisation is too repetitive and not great anyway, and my intonation is certainly off at parts.

  • @Talis64 Finally, at many parts you can see the pad just below the base of the neck that corresponds to the octave key move.

  • @Didou82

Dude, apperantly you don't know the sax's physical features. I have a degree in saxophone performance (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and contra bass. There is no way he could have faked this in something like that. What are you 15?

  • @ilovfob Well then, if you have a degree in saxophone performance, you could then enlight me by telling me how he's playing the very high notes (like D-E-F ones) without using the keys associated with them ?

  • @Didou82 I suppose you're referring to the palm keys. In that case, you do not see them pressed down because I use alternate fingerings for the high notes.

  • @Didou82 As you may know, there are more than 3 ways to play anything above D2. I couldn't start naming all of them at the moment, but I can say that he is using the alternative fingerings, smart one.

  • @ilovfob there is no alternate fingerings for high D, and he played it multiple times without the palm key...

  • @qw3rty01 The palm key that is used to play high D is not shown in the video, so it's preposterous to say that it is not used. You can only see the pad from one palm key, and it is the one that can be used to play high F, but I use an alternate fingering to play high F, so it does not open.

  • good on you kid.. I wish I was 1/2 as good pretty sweet blues imho..

to the negative commenters..let's hear YOUR videos.... there's those whats doin , and those whats watchin

good on you kid.. I wish I was 1/2 as good

  • What book is this out of?

  • this is so scripted.

  • why is the music still playing while your taking breathes not trying to hate or anything but your breathes dont match the song

  • The audio was recorded on a different track while the video was recorded, and then they were synced. They weren't synced very well, and so some things are slightly off.

  • I know, he cant even play the sax right.

look at his mouth and the mouthpiece.

so not right for that tone. intonation is like, good,

which makes me wonder a lot.

  • nice job. when improvising sing with your voice first then master that phrase on your instrument. practicing all of your scales will enhance what you will be able to do with your instrument.

  • sounds like paul desmond lol transcribe his solos, perfect for u

  • good tone but now do it with a less computer manipulated recording.

  • You've got good tone, but you should try to play with the mouthpiece centered in your mouth.

The improvisation worked, but it wasn't anything special. You should study the blues scale (ick...I know), pentatonic scales, and some bebop riffs/scales. Also, it's great to play the mixolydian and dorian modes over blues changes.

Congratulations on being instructed in jazz so early, though. I notice that you possess Jamey Aebersold's "Maiden Voyage"...did you attend his camp that year, also?

  • @confoozled3737 Thanks for the tips. I have never attended his camp, but it certainly sounds like a fun experience.

  • Holy shit guy, your 13? Great job!

  • You've have great tone and phrasing, and a pleasant vibrato. Hard to believe you were only 13 when you recorded this. Fantastic.

  • Thank you

  • Hey, could you tell me where can I find that track?? It's from Jamie Aebersold's book, I know, but which one?? Thx

  • #54, Maiden Voyage

  • thx!

  • wow dude.... if u wer 13 wen u made this.... wow. amazing tone! :D

  • Thank you very much.

  • no prob man ;)

  • the improvisation part isn't so good

you have to make more breaks and try play some more blues riffs

    moreover its too lively

    espacially at 3.24

  • You've got great natural talent kid. You're better than me. 5* and fav. Keep up the good work

  • wow is so obvious he's faking it. Just some lame punk kid.

  • Although I like the bright sound and the metal mouthpieces... I like sound a lot, very similar to dave brubeck...

  • dave brubeck plays the piano...

  • no, that's paul desmond... everybody gets them confused, paul desmond was the one that wrote take five, but it's the DAVE BRUBECK quartet...

  • Dave Brubeck was the pianist. Paul Desmond was the saxophonist.

  • The piano player?

  • I stand correncted

  • how old are you?

  • 14. I was 13 when I recorded this.

  • V.GOOD!

What mouthpeice and reed do you use?

  • Thanks.

The mouthpiece is a Dukoff D6 that I got used, and I think is somewhat old.

The reed is either a Vandoren JAVA 2 1/2, or a Vandoren ZZ 2 1/2. I use both.

  • ...your sound on the pink panther doesn't sound anything like this....

  • Two Main Reasons:

    1. This was posted significantly later, so my sound had developed a good deal since the Pink Panther video.

    2. This was recorded differently (the other was recorded through the camera on the iMac, using the built-in mic, with no effects added, while this one was recorded through an external microphone, into garageband, and some reverb and compressor effects were added.)

  • sounding great

  • Yes! Go on!

  • Kill the vibrato bro

  • Comment removed

  • I disagree. If anyone could do it, then we would have thousands of Coltranes and Breckers walking around. I don't know if you noticed, but jazz greats are one of a kind.

  • nice solo

  • Just to clarify, under no circumstance was my intention to compare David Sanborn to Kenny G. I think Sanborn's an awesome horn player. But my point was its probably not a good idea to copy the flaws & bad habits of other musicians technique, no matter how much you idolise them. If I started playing my sax horizontally like Lester Young, my sax tutor would have shot me.

  • Thanks a bunch man

  • How did you record the sax?

  • Through GarageBand. First, I imported the mp3 of the Aebersold track into one track, and then I recorded another track with the sax. I had a mic on the desk in front of me going into a mixer, which then went into the mic input on my computer (you can route the mixer to the computer in two ways: a. if you only need to record one thing at once, you can just put a 1/4 inch plug to mini in either the R or L output and record in mono

  • or b. if you want both the R and L outputs going into the computer simultaneously in order to record two seperate tracks or in stereo or whatever, you can use either a mini to phone-y cable, or a mini to RCA cable with 2 1/4 adapters on each RCA plug.

  • sounds good dude i just got my own tenor sax today playin to this shit is mad fun!

  • get past the blues scale man, too many roots, and try not to land on the 11 so much, even out your swing a little (hank mobley style) and you don't need vibrato on everything

  • Hey Mate...go on playing, it sounds great.

  • hey what notes are those there i play but...i kinda suck

  • Listen to Cannonball Adderly. He'll show you the way. Bird is good too. Listen to Coltrane too, but early coltrane.

  • oh my gosh, i really love your style... the whole way you produce your sound with the sax is just awesome!

  • Good Style

  • Nice playing. Have you added any audio effects like reverb afterwards? What sax, mouthpiece and reed combo are you using?

  • Thanks,

As far as audio effects, I added some reverb and some compressor.

The sax is a Selmer USA, and the model is LTD52 or something like that.

The mouthpiece is a Dukoff D6 that I got used, and seems pretty old.

The reed is either a Vandoren JAVA 2 1/2, or a Vandoren JAZZ 2 1/2 (I have some of both, and I can't remember which I used in this video).

  • you should consider buying a new saxophone... this is probably the worst saxophone making company in the world, even a jupiter would be an improvement in the blowing and ease of making a sound.

  • Jupiter's aren't at all that bad, but my skill comes from me. The horn helps, but if he likes his horn, and he's satisfied with it, let him play it.

  • do ya think i could have the sheet music for this?

  • gooood job; for soloing, try runs up and down the blues scalee; especially at the beginning of the solo. it sounds good

  • great job; I have some constuctive critisism. try play playing with the mouthpiece in the center of your mouth, you're playing with it on the side. (It's not good for your teeth, also.) Keep it up!

  • I agree. The mouthpiece should be in the center. I have only seen two artists that play the sax out of the side of their mount. One is Kenny G and if you want any saxophonist to take you seriously that is one person you don't want to be associated with. The other is David Sanborn, and he probably only does it because he had polio as a child (he has other flaws in his technique as well, which I again attributed to the polio).

  • Good playing, keep on!

Aebersolds Play a longs are nice to play to!

    Rank from me!

  • ur good i bought volume 1 and i hope to be this good and better(no offense im not saying your not good im just sayin i hope to be better)

  • Its nadines brother.Thats crazy awsome!!!!!

  • Yo, nadine's brother.

    Thanks for the kind words.
