If she is okay and comfortable with herself i have nothing to say about her appearance.

I will say though that celebrity culture inspires attention, not just the "positive" variety but all manner of opinions.

It feeds off of and nurtures reactions, the more reactions and individuals that pay attention, the better, regardless of the nature of this attention ( save for threats ).

To me this is a trifle,as is most so called celebrity news but they would worry if no one was saying anything at all

That's one of the things I really don't like about the Internet. People tend to spew hate and negativity because there's a sense of safety from being largely anonymous.

On the one hand, there's something to be said for the comments about how the bad comments go with being in the public eye.

Then again, I also remember being 17, and comments like that were pretty hard to take. It's not gotten much easier now that I'm in my 30s, but at least I know how to handle them better now.

I think "Installing a filter" is especially relevant to what people say online, and I think that the anonymity provided by certain websites (YouTube, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.) makes people throw common decency out the window.

When you're in the public spotlight they say you should have a think skin. But you can't deny that you might do a double take and have a hard time if all the comments are negative and hateful. When you laugh it off with comedy or get mad. It's pretty hard to totally discount all hate directed towards you. So yes people need to think, what's the point of what I am saying, is it adding something helpful to the world or not?

Just as if I brought things upon myself, I wouldn't expect any compassion. However, if it's nothing you can help, like MJ's skin condition, or Stephen Hawking's condition, then I'd show some compassion.
