A much easier and perhaps too easy way which is what I love about oblivion is to use the sigil stones from oblivion gates. If you don't know you can just save before you take a sigil stone at the end of an oblivion gate and keep loading until you get the one with the effect you want. You can just use the stone to enchant the item and give it the effect of the stone. You don't even need an altar. If combined with duplication this can make the game alot easier and you can get 100% chameleon.
You can go to a blacksmith to repair and someone in one of many mages halls have a person u pay to recharge... you can also recharge with soul gems by clicking on them while in ur thing
I have everything you told me to get; A filled grand soul gem, a plan item, a LOT of gold, and a spell, well, the spell i'm using is a chameleon 25% on self, I bought it off the vendor and equiped it on, but I don't have enough magika to use it. But you said you don't need the proficiency to cast the spell, so, when I went to the Chironasium and the enchanting altar, I put my item up and a filled grand soul gem, but to my suprise, all that came up were Light and Fire damage, not chameleon!
For some reason when i go to put a enchant on my weapon not going over my black soul gems capacity (so i think) it says this enchant is too strong for this gem, which i just don't get I'm thinking it has something to do with the two icons in the top left hand corner that seem to be gauging something but i have no clue what can someone please tell me what they mean.
my black soul gems dont seem to make items any more powerful than my plain grand soul gems despite having the highest soul level... do you have any advice for making the most of black soul gems?
@jackalackb17 Black Soulgems are about trapping Human Souls, ergo it's the easiest to aquire Grand level souls since Bandits are common. Then again if you can trap your summons soul, and with Master Conjuration you can summon creatures with Grand leveled souls (which works excellent with Azuras Star).
tl;dr It only has RP-value, and is one of the easiest methods to aquire Grand leveled souls other than 100 Conjuration w/ Azuras Star.

Filled soul gems are two sided. They can be used to make enchanted items, or they can be used to recharge enchanted items. To do the latter just select a filled soul gem from your inventory. You'll then be allowed to choose which weapon you want to use it on.

It's not specific to Skyrim,it's the symbol of Talos. It's the tails side of coins used in in Tamriel, it's found on every district door in the imperial city, it patterns the floor in white gold tower, and is found in countless other places in the game oblivion alone.
Talos is used for Skyrim because (of the nine divines), it (he) is a dragon familiar. Since Skyrim involves dragon at the centre of it's story, the use of the Talos symbol makes plenty of sense.
the imperial library is the most extensive website that has nearly all the elder scrolls lore created for easy and quick reference. It's mostly composed of official transcriptions from official sources.
@Linkthe1st you seem to know a hell of a lot more than any other video makers i've seen so any chance you'd do a lockpick guide of sorts? i'm confused as hell as to how to do it properly because everyone seems to just keep hitting each tumbler like a madman until it stays up slightly longer than normal... i have no fucking clue what they're doing between all the "glitches" and "tricks" these people have :c
@Fallout3sFinest actually thats all you do with the lockpicking game in oblivion. you keep pushing the tumbler up until it stays in place for a longer period of time. thats when you press your activate button and lock it into place. if the tumbler falls very quickly after you push it up, dont try to lock the tumbler into place, or you'll break the lockpick and screw up the other tumblers. its a matter of patience and reaction time. hope this helped.
@S0LiDsnAke36 gotcha. thanks! i find it funny how if you combine the concepts of the torque wrench from fallout 3's lockpick and the tumblers in oblivion thats actually a very close recreation of how you lock pick (tension on the wrench then get the tumblers to go up (except in real life the tension wrench holds the tumblers up with the tension you place on it))

I love this game, I've played the shit outta it and these days I stay away from enchanting, since it does make the game so much more easier. The game is much better if every fight is an epic challenge. Alchemy helps alot 'cause I run from city to city without the stupid lame ass fast travel system.
You should REALLY get DarNified UI. It's alot better than the UI that's made for xbox that almost everyone has. It's completely customizable. I don't know if your into modding, but you can get it from that elder scrolls nexus website.
Actually I do used the DarNified UI. It's just I hate getting tons of questions about what mods I use, and how to put them on consoles (ugh!). Thus I have two separate installs of Oblivion. One that I mod and play leisurely, and one Vanilla that I use for recording.
@Linkthe1st Well sorry if it bothered you, but I just wanted you to have a better oblivion experience. And also another tip, you can get something called "Oblivion Mod Manager", OBMM for short, which lets you toggle which mods you have on. You could save HDD space by just having one install and toggling the mods for when your recording. By the way, your videos are AWESOME! Keep up the good work, and looking forward to Skyrim videos!
I have the OBMM friend, but a lot of mods I use are so large and complex, they require the rewriting of files instead of re-referencing of files. Thus a dual install is the only option.
These Oblivion guides are so helpful, the best I’ve seen on youtube. Can you do a video on the best ways of getting large amounts of gold. I’m convinced I’m doing something wrong because my gold has never gone higher than about 2000 and most of the time its spent on repairing my gear and cheap spells. Plus 20,000 for a house? Where are people getting that much gold from? Keep the awesome Oblivion vids coming.
I already knew everything told in the vid, I just watched it because it was enjoyable, like all of you videos. I use Umbra for my soul trapping, but it makes it too easy. Seriously, my mage had multiple armour pieces that all fortified magicka by 24 and a ring that fortified it by 50, I had about 700 magicka, I could cast spells that could kill anything with 1 hit. My main sword had drain health 100. I also had the 100% chameleon and several armour pieces and spells to increase acrobatics lol
@capperz412 I recently replaced Umbra with a custom sword with soul trap for one second on strike. This works just as well if you consistently use the same weapon, and it allows for even more enchanting effects.

Enchanting in Oblivion sucks. I absolutely loved in in Morrowind, but it's such a pain in the dick to recharge anything, and considering how the interesting weapons die after 10 or so hits, I hardly ever use enchanted weapons and staffs anyways. I am incredibly excited to hear that the enchanting skill will return in Skyrim, being my favorite skill next to alchemy, and I hope to find it's features a blast to use when November arrives.
@qwertyb18 my strategy is get azura star, a soul gem that can be used over and over again, and any weapon with the soul trap enchantment. than, you can fight enemies, finish them off with the soul trap enchanted weapon, and use azura's star on either the soul-trapping sword or any enchanted item in your inventory.

I love your videos but you said that it doesn't matter if u can cast the spell u can still enchant items with that spell. I have spells that I can't use and can't enchant with.
As a PC gamer I've latched onto extremely high FPS as a must. Since AA is the fastest and easiest way to slash your FPS dramatically, I prefer to leave it off.
That being said I haven't upgraded my rig in years (I intend to rebuild within 2 months), so I'll probably start using AA again once I have a new machine. As it stands though a rig built back in '08 can't really lift a whole lot of weight today.

Yes, but you have no control over what type of sigil stone you get.
Sigil stone = limited number, more powerful, random, free but difficult to get

These Oblivion guides are so helpful, the best I’ve seen on youtube. Can you do a video on the best ways of getting large amounts of gold. I’m convinced I’m doing something wrong because my gold has never gone higher than about 2000 and most of the time its spent on repairing my gear and cheap spells. Plus 20,000 for a house? Where are people getting that much gold from? Keep the awesome Oblivion vids coming.

I already knew everything told in the vid, I just watched it because it was enjoyable, like all of you videos. I use Umbra for my soul trapping, but it makes it too easy. Seriously, my mage had multiple armour pieces that all fortified magicka by 24 and a ring that fortified it by 50, I had about 700 magicka, I could cast spells that could kill anything with 1 hit. My main sword had drain health 100. I also had the 100% chameleon and several armour pieces and spells to increase acrobatics lol

@capperz412 I recently replaced Umbra with a custom sword with soul trap for one second on strike. This works just as well if you consistently use the same weapon, and it allows for even more enchanting effects.

Enchanting in Oblivion sucks. I absolutely loved in in Morrowind, but it's such a pain in the dick to recharge anything, and considering how the interesting weapons die after 10 or so hits, I hardly ever use enchanted weapons and staffs anyways. I am incredibly excited to hear that the enchanting skill will return in Skyrim, being my favorite skill next to alchemy, and I hope to find it's features a blast to use when November arrives.

@qwertyb18 my strategy is get azura star, a soul gem that can be used over and over again, and any weapon with the soul trap enchantment. than, you can fight enemies, finish them off with the soul trap enchanted weapon, and use azura's star on either the soul-trapping sword or any enchanted item in your inventory.

What about Sigil Stones?
That's how I enchant my weapons, although I can never really know what I'm going to get until I actually grab the Sigil Stone

As I said on the visage blog (watch the intro!), I'm interested in riding the nostalgia wave. The idea that people will start picking up oblivion again in anticipation of Skyrim.
I wanna play Skyrim, but until it's out I'll play Oblivion instead. Y'know "get as close to it as possible".

I love your videos but you said that it doesn't matter if u can cast the spell u can still enchant items with that spell. I have spells that I can't use and can't enchant with.

As a PC gamer I've latched onto extremely high FPS as a must. Since AA is the fastest and easiest way to slash your FPS dramatically, I prefer to leave it off.
That being said I haven't upgraded my rig in years (I intend to rebuild within 2 months), so I'll probably start using AA again once I have a new machine. As it stands though a rig built back in '08 can't really lift a whole lot of weight today.
