Cnet and others STARTED the piracy all big names for YEARS promoted the very software that gets you torrents to copyrighted materials. Disney, MSN was in it too! the very same ones who started this is now backing SOPA! INSANE!
And yes this was for PROFITS future profits from sueing the people they encouraged to download copyrighted software, music and videos FROM THEM!

Tyranny and profit seem to go hand in hand on this one, Old-timer. Subsidiaries of Viacom planted this seed years ago, promoting exclusive, easy to use means of obtaining copywriten material. Due to the sheer (and anticipated) popularity of "free" media, these subsidiaries lined their wallets with advertisement funds "earned" by the aforementioned popularity. They used this revenue to lobby the gov't to punish it's users w lawsuits. They will then farm us for easy money, lawsuit after lawsuit.
