This is so funny. Im studying to become a teacher... but i starting to have second toughts, perhaps I should become a truckdriver? So this video is 2 years.. How did it go? :)
I'm glad I have my college degrees. Because of them, I was able to explore and opportunity in Korea and land a position --- teaching English, and I love it. I still have my CDL.
always run good steers it's not worth dieing over a front tire blow out. don't hesitate taking the truck for repairs at the cost of the company especially if you get paid to wait. that includes the trailer and always report problems with the equipment. consider it a test to see how much they value safety.
what ever you do stay away from the north west. you'll be stuck there without a load out unless your carrier guarantees a load and layover pay it's not worth it. the best places for loads are out of the chicago area but again be wary of where the freight goes because your deadhead miles will be a killer. keep up on your logs especially before weigh stations. don't do loads to brownsville, tx.
oh yah. most of the trucking schools suck. one's that only give 1 or 2 weeks are not long enough to teach the required skills and many teach groups at once so they get very little drive time. drivers go out with a trainer when their new but as a trainee your strickly money for the trainer. unless you do something specialized like heavy haul it's not worth it. you can try becoming 100% independent too but that's hard to do and you'll have to find your own loads and collect pay for loads.
i've heard of people doing better hauling stuff without an 18wheeler. i think one way is called hot dogging but i'm not sure if the term is correct. also consider being an escort for heavy haul loads. well i'm out of this neck of the woods but i hope that helps. good luck
i drove for 5yrs and for what you put into truck driving you don't get out of it. i was glad i got fired 2yrs ago by landstar because my truck was broke down and couldn't take a load. it was the best thing that ever happened to me. as for expenses you get ripped. if your an owner operator as i was they try to sock it to you at tax time. keep all receipts no matter what it is. at least document your expenses and make it match what city your in. never drive in the snow. it's not worth it.
I work the oil patch in Alberta Canada, Ive been driving 34 yrs and still enjoy my work, If you can specialise you can make a good living, but its not for every one.. Shnieders not too bad an outfit, if they will train you and hire you, go for it, you want to drive> well they will keep you working tioll you fufill your obligation to them, I never went to scholl I learned from an uncle when I was young
Hello there, I am lilbit,,I am a log truck driver of 13 yrs...I did go over the road for 3 mths,,that sucks,,,according which life style you chose...but there is no room for a life as far, as a home and family,,,if thats something you don't want then it is the best job you'll find,,travel..go to "swisslive" see what i see,,trucking with a live cam,,and you can see what it's like,,,good luck...lilbit
You won't have a life as a truck driver. Long hours (make as much money working two regular jobs and putting in the same hours), you have to be good at doing a hundred things at once (reading maps, driving, obeying hundreds of laws or pay HUGE FINES!), beware the double tongued safety standards from employers (its your life on the line, not their's).
Hey, its fun for a while. Fines are now so extreme for minor violations that you have to be very good to make it pay.
If you want to drive truck find somebody that will allow you to ride with them for a week or 2... that way you will get a taste of what its like without doing it directly. The money is not a lot and it seems your time can get squandered a bit more than you would like.
...Now you can get hired on at a trucking company or get your own truck and kinda freelance it. Freelancing gives you the option of making your own schedule. When going cross counrty all food, gas, accrued expences are deductible. But I warn you cross counrty is hard on all the drivers we've met. Hope that helps!
Try ROP truck driving schools. My dad did that and he is the best driver in the world. He can drive doubles, triples, haz-mat, skip loaders, back hoes, basically anything you can think of her can drive. Has the best driving record of anyone he's met. And he usually gets stuck having to re-train drivers from other companies. He even does a military base, Sea World, and SDSU (my school, lol).
Run from that idea you will hate it. It is the worst thing you can do. romantic it isn't alot of work for no money. Listen please and keep teaching I've been in the business for 30plus years. Drivers a teated like a 2nd class people
I have a good friend who is a truck driver but I really don't know much. I know he doesn't drive cross-country but does travel a couple of states. He does very well and seems to enjoy it.
I was a trucker for a little while. If you want to ask me anything personally, you can PM me here on YouTube. Yes, you should be careful about which school you choose. DO NOT USE SCHNIDER! You should go to Central Refrigerated!
They all lie, cheat and steal from the driver.Trucking isnt worth a sh#t anymore. 14years and 5 as an owner.

Well there are not really any lodging expenses where hotel rooms are concerned. Most over the road trucks have sleepers.
Second,I would not recommend going owner operator before your first couple of years. You should get a feel for it first.
