Fantastic!! - saw them loads of times when they were at this point. Dingwalls had that pillar (behind Johnny) which was almost centre-stage and very irritating if you forgot it was there and stepped back suddenly - VERY Sad to lose Greeny, no-one could play like that - including Wilko (tho' he could imitate the Sound). RIP, Mick Green.
@captbobalou Yeah arn't they just the best ,they even wrote 'Shaking all over'. I love em all, but favorite is Dont Munchen it,lonesome train and You dont own me .Shit hot 3 piece, best ever.
Frank Farley was a big part of this exciting sound. His roared out the vocals melodicaly and his bass lines kept it interesting and recognizable. Frank's contribution was equal to Micks I think.
The reason you should play guitar. Simply the best pub rock band ever.... and I have been priveleged to see them. God bless you Mick, your influence will rock UK pubs forever.
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED BANDS OF ALL TIMES. If you don't like the PIRATES you must be tone deaf. I am bummed...R.I.P. Mick Green. You are missed but NEVER forgotten.
if hendrix was remembered for the strat and angus and iommi for the sg via for the ibanez etc then mick green is the king of the tele in my opinion a sadly missed guitar gem R.I.P
Oh man...another one gone...what can we say. A true original, a genius, a rock'n'roller who will never be forgotten... RIP Mick.
I have a personal memory of a gig at Aston University in 1977/8..with myself making up a four on the table football with the band...only gig I ever stage managed where I INSISTED on jumping down front when the band started playing. Still the best...
Saw Mick and the boys in Cardiff Top rank in 78.I've been a fan ever since. A guitar sound you could slice rocks with, and energy that could power the national grid. R.I.P. MICK GREEN. What a guitar player.
I used to practically follow them round, all the time the punk revolution was happening in London it was The Pirates that had my attention. My first hit of them was at the performance featured on the Hope & Anchor festival album and I proudly remembering speaking to Mick briefly after the gig. Another time I remember the whole Marquee crowd jammed solid, pogoing as one and desperately grateful for the cool beer being thrown around keeping us all conscious. May they rock forever!
Saw The Pirates a handful of times between '78 and '79.....always blisteringly brilliant; Mick Green like Wilko whom he influenced, is a great British RocknRoller....a one off.
The Band is gigging and he is still playing extraordinary guitar at a ripe old age.
This would have blown any fucking punk band out of the water at the time. Don't get me wrong. I loved the way Punk redefined music and fucked off those long haired hippy cunts. Respect.
They still are, but wear glasses! Saw them in Leicester a couple of months and still quality, although in their 60's have lost the rawness of this gig. Nevertheless cant beat the track anyway!!
I did rocked the house ... with that album and my Marrantz and ESS speakers !!!! Thanks from Germany !!
