Hi Betty! What difference would it taste like if you used cream of chicken instead of cream of mushroom? Would it taste just as good? I'm making this for a group of people tomorrow and I think I want to omit the mushrooms. But I've seen so many recipes for this using mushrooms. I'm torn! Cream of mushroom soup with no additional mushrooms or cream of chicken and no additional mushrooms?!?? Can you help? Thx! :)
@mahoganybella I would suggest that you substitute cream of chicken soup in place of the mushroom soup. And, you don't need to add additional mushrooms. The casserole is very tasty without them.
A couple slices of tomatoe maybe a few jalapeno peppers and I would be in heaven with this dish. This goes on the will make ASAP list. Another winner Betty.
Nice dish ..this clip should of been listed under your bloopers LOL at the end u said supper or dinner aren't the same thing ? LOL..great reciepe i will have to try it
Thanks so much for posting your video. You really did a great job with the communication side of the recipe. I'm gonna try it next w/e for a picnic thing....hope it looks as fantastic as yours!! Haha...thanks again for posting.
@78k5 I know it seems strange, but quite often I use low fat, low sugar products in foods that are by nature high in fat and calories. My philosophy is that "every little bit you can save on fat and sugar counts!" I may have been able to find turkey sausage, but I try to keep the flavor of the dish in mind, too!
This casserole was easy to make and delicious. The croutons made a great crust. This will be one of my go-to recipes for breakfast or brunch potlucks because everyone loved it. Thanks Betty!
Thanks for this recipe. I love your channel. I love quick & easy solutions, but my roommate is all about fresh & time consuming veggies. We finally came to a happy medium. He suggested rinsing out the canned veggies to reduce sodium & low fat cheese or cream cuts down the calories a lot. Salt is an issue for some, but I've found herbs you've suggested in other videos make a great sub. Thank you for your videos, we love them. :)
Betty, you bring the joy of cooking to life. Such a bright and cheerful meal! Very colourful aswell. Rick... you did a fantastic job filming this video as usual. I didnt miss any of the ingrediants!! oh... and the way it was piping hot and bubbling!!! yum!!!!
This looks absolutely delicious! Perfect for any meal... breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great recipe and video dear Betty. Love your blouse! You always look beautiful. Much love to you and your family...
This looks really good. Thank you Betty. I don't mean the thank you to be polite, I REALLY mean THANK YOU. P.S- love your shirt/blouse that you are wearing.
@jrid84 Oh, sorry about that. If you have any spiced sausage (like Italian sausage), that would work, and for the stuffing mix, you can use bread crumbs--you can add a little spice to them--sage, etc.
@fyshy1 Chesse is one item that I don't use the low-fat variety (except cream cheese). I find that the texture isn't as good, but that's just personal preference. If you are watching fat closely, you should definitely replace cheese in any of my recipes with a low-fat version--there are a lot of good ones out there!
@fyshy1 Sometimes I use the vegan cheeses when I'm trying to cut my fat. I've had mixed results with them in terms of meltiness, texture, and taste, so you might want to try a small package first.
This is another lovely recipe Betty. Thank you so much for your efforts, and your husbands efforts, in preparing the sausage casserole video for us to see how it is made.
@ndnflava Fresh foods are obviously better for you. You can always substitute fresh foods for canned foods in my recipes. I give my recipes in a way that is easy and quick for people on the go--but for anyone who makes everything from scratch, you can still watch the recipe and adapt!
@bettyskitchen They say frozen foods often are better than fresh because they are frozen immediately at their peak of goodness. I rinse my sausage or beef with hot water in a collendar and it get's rid of a lot of the fat.
I'm so hungry right now, just reading the title made my mouth water. Unfortunately, a few people in my family are sensitive to mushrooms, so if I make this I'm going to have to figure out a substitute for those and the soup :P
I love making your recipes but its hard sometimes as im from england and we dont use most of the products you use but this one looks delicious im going to make it for breakfast tomorrow! :) x
im a senior in college, and ive made so many of your recipes! they are so easy and delicious, and a great change to the typical college food =). On tonights menu is the Swiss Chicken Cassarole! looks so yummy. I plan on doing this one this weekend when my parents visit for breakfast =).

one question...do you think venison sausage would work in this???
Thanks for your speedy response Betty! You're awesome!

Hey,
I was wondering what the difference is between sausage and groud meat? For me it always looks the same? Is it just a seasoning difference?
Thanks
Stef
Stef6788 1 year ago 2
@Stef6788 Sausage is generally seasoned ground pork. Ground meat could be ground beef, chicken, turkey, etc., and it is not seasoned.
