  • are there expressways like that the whole way to goa?

  • @USARMz I wish! No, this highway is elevated like this only for about 20 km until it leaves the city of Bangalore. But even then, for another 200 km, until the town of Chitradurga, it is 4-lane and more importantly, access-controlled!! Every village and town it passes through in those 200 km is sealed from the highway with barricades with overhead crossings for pedestrians.

  • @USARMz Then the next 230 km from Chitradurga to Hubli is still 4-lane, but it's no longer access controlled, so you have to watch out for people, cows, dogs etc on the road as well as village tractors and motorcycles who will be driving on the wrong side of the road to save themselves the trouble of going down the road 1 km to make a U-turn, never mind that cars are moving at 120 kmph on the road there.

  • @USARMz At Hubli, you get off this highway (which goes on to Bombay) and then you have a choice of driving 250 km on a smoothly-paved, two-lane undivided highway or 130 km on a two-lane undivided potholed road. We chose the former! All in all, we still made the 700 km in about 13 hours, including lunch stop and numerous other small stops along the way. The target of making it there for lunch was way too optimistic though! :P
