Well that puts a damper on things. Thanks for the intel, next time I won't take someone's word for it. I do far more research on my firearms than the ammunition itself, thanks again.
From what you've shown about the accuracy of the Mosin, I believe that when properly zero'd it is fully capable. But even after 4 different attempts to zero at 100m, the horizontal spread at 420 was well over 3 ft. Normally, id blame the rounds or the wind but going from a 5" group with my M1 to a 3' group with a mosin tells me it must be a flaw within the barrel.
Do you know of any common problems with surplus Mosin's?
Finally figured out that the 420 yard steel target was a buffalo. And coincidentally, the only two rifles that I could routinely make contact with it was my Garand and your Enfield. I was never able to get consecutive hits with the Mosin.
Yeah I'd pick up that Winchester soft point stuff at the Big Five in Valencia, then head up to A Place to Shoot. I'd always stretch it out to the 420 yard steel plate at the top of the mountain. Great stuff there.
Use ONLY the M2Ball rounds from the cmp in your Garand, its what Garands love.I really like Garands and K98s the best so my vote will go to the M1 Garand for run and gun.but one with the K98 would be nice to.oh the M44 mosin nagant are tac drivers get one if you can.
I work with a guy that was on an old Army Reserve shooting team for 20 years and all they shot was the Garand. He said it doesn't matter what I put through the Garand, new, hot-loaded, or surplus, but I don't think that's correct based off all the evidence otherwise. You should check out my M44 run and gun video.
Mr2ndAmendment,your MM is not a true all matching 100 percent correct k98 but neither is a russian capture one.Its still 100 percent German however.do not feel belittled by what others might say about it.I have 8 mausers only 2 are russian captured and one is a vet return, and i like your MM i still think nothing wrong just blue the darn bolt, and leave it be.thats just my opinion.
you may have already tried this but on your M1, try using more used clips, or get a brand new op rod spring so there is more pressure on the follower, or take it to a gunsmith and see if there are gas leaks in the gas tube.
Oh it's a nice shooter, but all great advice. Between the light 125 grain loads and the low power of the Hornady "Lite" powder, I know it just wasn't powerful enough to fully cycle the weapon. The odd thing was that it had enough power to only eject the brass but not enough to fully push the bolt back to return and strip off a round and chamber it.
hey what kind of gun bag did you use to fit the mosin nagant? Cause I'm having trouble finding one around my area.. Thanks!
