I had the chance to study with a french pianist who did know Debussy personally, studied with Cortot , Nat and Marguerite Long and who made quite a good career. She would have appreciated this interpretation ....
No, I don't have recording studio! ;) Most of my recordings were made with portable DAT either during live performances or rehearsals. None of them are professional... For me the best and the most affordable option is just a regular DAT. Though such recordings are not immune to imperfections and flaws... yet they can capture true intentions and unique moments.
@truecrypt Thanks for reply. Whatever you are doing recording wise you are definitely doing it a great deal better than most amateur piano recordings here on Youtube. Even those made at student competitions - where you would think that some care would be taken - often seem very poor sound quality; echoing rooms and tinny or booming sounding pianos often with a sort of rustling noise on top.
these 24 preludes shown in 2 notebooks carry descriptive titles that suggest a certain program more into the mood of idilic atmospheres than dealing with certain concrete situations
i played this piece many times: I use more pedalling giving it a more fluid character in places, which then alternates with the staccato passages, for a little more variety in colour..could envisage as the more luscious and lingering effects as a firework fades alternating with sparks flying and sudden explosions. Also some sections played as f are pp and this creates a really exciting contrast with the ffs! Your technique in the section marked scherzando is way better than mine though!
Great playing! You're also doing the Hispanic character full justice, telling a colourful story (of inebriated vocal expression of nationalistic pride?) in La Puerta del Vino that goes way beyond dreaminess. And those fireworks! Wow! Very, very impressive!
Nice playing mon frere! Debussy's Preludes are the single best collection of piano works by him IMHO. Particularly the second book. I guess the only other comparable body of work of his are the 2 books of Images, though.
Anyways, am actually planning on recording several of them, including La Puerta del Vino as soon as time and circumstances permit and I love your interpretation!
This is the most exciting rendition I´ve heard of these pieces! So DYNAMIC! (most people seem to consider Debussy a lazy dreamer.) This is a true revelation. I´m jumping up and down here! (belive me, this playing has changed my view of Debussy for ever.)
wonderful, inspired, often genial .. finally a pianist who has something artistic to say and knows how to say it!

Your recordings are generally of a much higher quality than the sound of most home recordings. Do you have your own recording studio?

There is radiance in your Debussy! You bring out unexpected details and you play with a lot of fantasy (in dynamics and pedaling). Bravo!

Hi. I agree about Debussy not (only) being about lazy dreaming. You might want to listen to marianobellopede playing "pour le piano"
Look up his user name or among my favorites. kind regards, Josette
