we have been waiting for this product to ship from cisco for about 4 months now. blah! sure it does the job, but, cisco is not really fabricating anymore? fast enough?

I agree at this price point Sonicwall is better.. but in the long haul Cisco is a better product. I have used both as well.

We recently got one of these "easy" to setup devices for our network to replace our SOHO3 firewall. It has taken over a month to get it configured and working in our environment. The ASDM is worthless. Unfortunately for me we held on to this worthless P.O.S. for 1 day too long so we couldn't send it back and get a Sonicwall TZ180/190 now I'm stuck with it and their horrid tech support. If you need a new firewall appliance GET ANYTHING ELSE BUT CISCO!

I will buy your used one. You haven't see horrible tech support until you have an emergency with SonicWall. Buy smartnet with your Cisco hardware and pick the level of support you want.

Problems with People who do not know how to configure a 'real firewall appliance'

We work with CICSO equipment because it is the best. The problem is if you do not know how to work with Cisco equipment then like everything else - you shouldn't be messing with it.Tech support is great as they will set-up for you at your place of business or home. Like all support (including Sonicwall) you have to pay for it.

BTW we are Cisco and Sonicwall certified.

SonicWALL is a better device by far, this at this pricepoint is unreasonable for what you are getting. This is a cisco box that cannot do AV/ AS/ IPS on one box. They only are listing stateful throughput at 150 mbps, what about with the services turned on?

Look at SonicWALL TZ 180 or TZ 190, you get a 4x box at a third of the cost.

We looked at Sonicwall before cisco and didn't want to pay for the Yearly AV/IPS renewal you have to take out to keep up to date. Yes Cisco more pricey but I think the 5505 is a nice reliable little box, Excellent IOS, and the cost of the TZ180 is about the same as Cisco 5505 10 user model in the UK. Give or take a few bucks.. Cisco wins for me...

What are you talking about the TZ 180 is about the same price. Anyone complaining about how complicated the IOS or ASDM is to use shouldnt be going anywhere near cisco kit. This is an advance piece of kit for network engineers who know what they are doing.

Also dont make me laugh trying to compare the 5505 to a TZ 180 the SonicWall is not even in the same class. SSL VPN anyone?

amazing device, over a year no reboots or lockups SSL VPN allows us to access our home PC while traveling. CISCO you need to update unit with a 100/1000mb switch and POE that would support your new 802.11n aironet 1250 and release a IPS card like aim-ssm-10 for the 5505.

I liked it - but I can't believe they can fit it all in that tiny box.

Cisco wouldn't lie - if they said Microsoft done the crime (otherwise they'd get litigerated)

Cisco support has gone down the tubes. I remember calling sales and getting someone who actually could help. Now They are refusing to support Vista with my Pix firewall VPN, I need remote logon for my domain. (SBL) They did everything (including blaming Micrsoft) not to fix my problem. I would expect more out of Cisco then to make a client that only Half works for vista. No plans to make it right, very lame....
