This song...I know that it's supposed to be about being in love, but sometimes I'll listen to a song's mood rather than the lyrics, and the meaning will change for me completely.

That said, the melody coupled with the lyrics "After all this time, after all is said and done" - as well as "We have seen some suffering, baby. It hasn't always been perfect" - strike me as saying goodbye to a phase of your life.

Whenever I hear it, I think of when I graduated from community college.
