  • It's not illegal for 2 guys to be together....in our day it was about smoking pot! Just sayin'

  • there is something better than Simon and Garfunkel..........Paul Simon!! You are more important than the statue of liberty for the city of NY!!! God bless America

  • i did't understood anything...........

  • whatever you want it to be

  • It's ok for a male artist "have it off" with some guy, cause he's an artist! But for some other human being, it's hateful!

What a distaste! Shame on you, hypocrites!

  • To me its smoking weeeeed ! :D

  • @TQmx3beatz i think selling weed

  • Who's the MAN!!!!

  • Step 1: Mute video

    Step 2: Hit "9" repeatedly

    Step 3: ???

    Step 4: Profit!

  • Wish this song was longer its so good

  • I always imagined it was paul and some kid named julio smoking weed

  • What did they do to get the cops involved? Must of been bad.

  • haha. All the black guys are playing guitar, and the white guys are the ones playing bongos

  • @Santamugger "Token your black you have a base somewhere in your basement"

  • Whoooop---this'n gives me a whoppin' case of 'Happy Feets' {fingers too} XD

  • One of the greatest performers who ever lived. If you don't know his music, well you don't know music.

  • Is this about mama discovering her son having it off with Julio?

  • @gibaudrac1 I Thought You Me And Juilio Were Smoking Weed

  • @gibaudrac1 or there fucking you mum with a van

  • it's dr house on drums back there.

  • Old school is best , lovin this !!

  • i'm guessing bum sex - not there is anything wrong with that :)

  • @gezblair They had sex with a bum?

  • I love this song....but what were he and Julio DOING down by the schoolyard that ticked everyone off so much and was so illegal? Curious as to your takes or if there is a real story. Please enlighten me. Peace.

  • @hupp1965

Jon Landau, Rolling Stone:"What is it that the mama saw? The whole world wants to know."

Paul Simon: "I have no idea what it is... Something sexual is what I imagine, but when I say 'something', I never bothered to figure out what it was. Didn't make any difference to me."

So, I guess it's whatever the listener imagines it to be.

  • @Samsamsam110 I just dont believe that there is nothing to this song and its up to us,what we can imagine , lol It drives me crazy trying to figure it out.. Guess I'll never really know..

  • @blacksabbathvids while I apologize for her ignorance, I am also hopeful that someone as closeminded as to not _elucidate_ the ignorant fails to procreate.

  • Cannot wait to see him play Glastonbury!

  • Paul simon, I love you forever

  • I went down to the schoolyard but they told me Julio had left.

  • WHAT IS THAT WEIRD SQUEAKING INSTRUMENT AT THE END OF THE SONG!? IT SOUNDS LIKE HES CLEANING THE DRUM FEROCIOUSLY!

  • This is indeed awesome. I also think that streetlight manifesto did a wonderful job covering it.

  • looks like the guy is fisting the drum

  • Who is Julio ?

  • 15 people need to be stuck in the house of detention.

  • I think I'm in love :D

  • Sweet my names julio lol my teacher told me about this song.

  • I would have fired the bass player after this one.

  • @Dzonrid Because he stole the show?

  • @wilsclin No, but because he didn't, what's the right phrase, play the bag or play in the bag? Don't get me wrong, Armand Sabal-Lecco is a great bass player, really great. It's just that this kind of attitude annoys me. If you're playing a country & western tune, then you don't play bebop phrases all over it. Respect the song or go home.

  • @Dzonrid

Blame it on Jaco for the bebop, but the way he is playing was completely planned. If you don't agree, check the guitar phrasing. And since you mentioned C&W, remember the old saying: If you can play bass, play bass; but if can't play bass, play C&W. LOL

  • @wysiwyg248 I don't care what the guitar player plays. The drums and the bass are playing different songs. it sounds like crap.

  • @Dzonrid, idiot comment, listen to music that your little brain can understand.

  • @CamelClass Thanks for the compliment! If somebody says he/she doesn't like your favorite food, do you call them idiots? Or did you just want to showcase your superior debating skills?

  • reminds me of Ms. Seaman xD

  • true mate thats birds 4 ya

  • Streetlight's was better, but this is good too. :P

  • Isn't that "House" on drums...?

  • @halcyonsgs:

Thanks, I thought I was the only one recognizing that :)

  • great song, steve gadd is amazing.

  • way to go

  • Saw this as part of move with Gene Hackman decided this would make a great karaoke song. All I need is a "Guitar Hero " guitar, for fun.

  • What's really funny is you pulled up the song just to talk smack! lmao

  • <3 i could listen to this all day. XD

  • I just love this song. And Mr. Simon. XD

  • @louispine1 You're a Foul mouthed Freak SHUT UP LEARN HOW TO USE ALL CAPS SUCKA

  • @iLoveMyBailie I AM USING ALL CAPS SEWER SNOID!! SUCKA....OOOOH ARE YOU A STREET THUG?? OR JUST A REGULAR WELFARE RECIPIENT??? GET A LIFE, GET OFF THE METH...I KNOW YOUR DADDY PIMPED YOU OUT,,,BUT THERE'S HELP!!!! GET OFF THE POLE,,,GO GET YOUR G.E.D. YOU SOUND LIKE A CHICK. I'M ONLY GUESSING, YOU JUST GIVE OFF THAT,LONELY,BROKE,ALMOST HOMELESS,CHILD MOLESTER,PROSTITUTE,VIBE!!!!!! GET A SENSE OF HUMOR WHILE YOU'RE AT IT!!!

  • steetlight manifesto version is waaaaaaayyy better!

  • I always liked this one.

  • i thought this song was about drugs. please correct me if i am wrong

  • @sarahmettles .....you're not from NYC ...are you?

  • @sarahmettles ....what are you hearing as drug related?

  • i told a girlfriend about how much i liked paul simon and simon and garfunkel. she said whos that? over the next few minutes we proceeded to break up. HOW HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF SIMON AND GARFUNKEL????

  • @blacksabbathvids your comment made me laugh

  • @blacksabbathvids good call.

  • @blacksabbathvids

    i guess you're a very deep person...

  • @blacksabbathvids Does she know who The beatles are? I bet NOT. But I am sure she knows who SNOOKI is. TALENT is gone..ratings are all that matter.

  • @blacksabbathvids - There must be 50 ways to leave your lover, but this is certainly one of the most entertaining...

  • @blacksabbathvids thats a respectable reason to break up with someone.

  • @blacksabbathvids Listened to that music growing up...love all their songs! :)

  • @blacksabbathvids you'l be suprised ! ive been a fan for 20years ,and only a hanful of people have heard of them ! alot of people are missing out

  • @blacksabbathvids You have to be completely cut off from great American music to have never heard of that incredible musical pairing. Good call on the break-up ;).

  • @blacksabbathvids You guys broke up because she hadn't heard of them. Well why the fuck didn't you stay with her and introduce her to some of their music?! She clearly needed someone to show her the way!

  • how could someone be so immature that they break up with a person because they aren't aware of a band? It seems like that question should have a much more interesting answer. You should have played her some of your favorite songs and tried to get her to come on board with you as a fan. I'm sure Paul Simon would have appreciated it.

  • @blacksabbathvids Why didn't you just give her the gift of learning who they were??? I once had a girlfriend who didn't know any good music and I introduced her to most of the music she likes now..

  • @blacksabbathvids I think she might be a whole lot better off if that's your measure of a meaningful basis of a relationship.

  • @blacksabbathvids That's one way to leave your lover.

  • @blacksabbathvids

yap, good call to break up over this . I'd be willing to date you over this if I knew you.

  • @blacksabbathvids There must be 50 ways to leave your lover.

  • @blacksabbathvids My ex wife cheated on me with both a man named Paul and Simon. We broke up but I still can't bring myself to hate this man's music even though just seeing the name on my ipod makes me want to cry.

  • @wesleyhenryhead excuse my rudeness, but that is kinda hilarious

  • @AHarmlessBlackMan Don't worry about it I laugh about it too sometimes, but seriously she ruined my life.

  • @wesleyhenryhead Sorry but i have been reading your comments and i swear to god i've never laughed at someone so much YOU ARE A FUCKING BELTER OF A MAN.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH your fucking fairy xx

  • @stoner44bear I don't mind you laughing pal but remember this is my life I'm living here. I am on Twitter at @WesleyHenry1 if you want to be my friend, the folks behind Hollyoaks got in touch with me today and I am also providing emotional support for Ortis Deley. Keep in touch, yours Wesley.

  • @blacksabbathvids she must be an alien lol

  • @blacksabbathvids

i wish i had'nt heard of Simon and Garfunkel, you see... then i would yet have to have the first-time experience with the best sounds in the universe!

  • CUICA FEVER!

  • so sorry Rita but i still wonder what Julio @ whoever where doin my guess is love

  • love this high energy version. bassist kicks out some cool riffs near the beg. of the 1st verse verse....Simon is the best....great from the start and ALWAYS re arranging his tunes and reinventing himself as an artist.....

  • The legendary "House of Detention", popularly known as "Juvy" is where you were sent if you were caught out of school without a good excuse. Playing hooky we called it. Now half the kids never go to school and are promoted whilst not knowing shit from shinola or the location of Europe. If we tried to improve the situation the ACLU and the Teachers Union would file suit.

Ah America, how much faster can we go downhill?

  • @oysterjoe yep

  • I didn't realize Yaphet Kotto played guitar?!? Isn't that him over pauls right shoulder? J/K rthis is a sweet version of this awesome song. I'll have to teach myself this one asap.

  • God this song takes me back.

  • oh man this song rules

  • This is tight!

  • Whenever I hear a bad song, it comforts me to know that this video still exists. :)

  • Yup 1992, Paul Simon UnPlugged. What an amazing show...

  • That what I know, that what I say.

  • Paul Simon is a musical genius.

  • This song becomes perfect at 2:30. :)

  • I like right at 2:47 or so the guy making the money noise (What instrument is that?) is on the left side of the screen and he points to the audience like BOOYAY!!! lol too funny. GREAT song!

  • STEVE GAD RIGHT?

  • Again...esta nada.Tocar necessario !!

  • Yes, the older the yam, the sweeter the poi. (old Hawaiian proverb) Much like a wine that has been aged, you ageist.

  • Recorded 3/4/92 at Kaufman Astoria Studios Astoria, Queens, New York. MTV Unplugged series.

Band member credits go to Michael Brecker (saxophone), Chris Botti (trumpet), Steve Gadd (drums), Cyro Baptista (percussions), Mingo Araujo (percussions), John Selolwane (guitar), Ray Phiri (guitar), Armand Sabal-Lecco (bass), Tony Cedras (accordion), Richard Tee (piano) and Vincent Nguini (guitar).

  • explain to me why this isnt on iTunes?

  • so far every streetlight covered song ive seen has someone talking about them

  • streetlight manifesto did a good cover of this

  • If I could have a music lesson from anyone in history...I would pick Paul Simon, he is simply genius. He never ceases to amaze me how he make so many different styles of music work together.

  • Good bass work.

  • Awesome!!!

  • I think Julio is a cool name

  • Who was that bass player? He was in his own world just wanking away, not in a bad way:P

  • Comment removed

  • still using this tune on adverts

  • what an amazing singer.

  • that drummer played with clapton too:D

  • Was this song based on something that happen?

  • @midnightcaller200 yep julio was a real person that died

    i think

  • @midnightcaller200

Paul still says he had no idea what he was thinking when he was writing the lyrics. He made them up randomly to fit the tune he had written. On the record, he sang in two part harmony, to imitate the S&G sound. Since there was no Art, he sang both parts, via overdubbing

  • they don't make 'em like this anymore!

  • sweet fisting solo

  • Streetlight Manifesto covered this soooo beautifully

  • @xxAHIPPIExx agreed

  • you have to watch the Sesame Street version of this song!!!

  • With the little black girl singing "dance dance" and the other kids jiving, that was well worth it, thanks.

  • @stevelano I can't wait to hear the streetlight manifesto version

  • It's up on youtube now

  • @Itell21

    It's soooo good.

  • Julio and I

  • @Naidotsuc LOL! Actually it would me Julio and Me..... haha... man I luv this song ;)

  • @Naidotsuc actually since the pronoun I is being used as the direct object of a verb (SEEING Me and Julio) it's correct the way it is.

It ain't make no difference difference, anyways!!!

  • This man is great, not just for himself but for the talentented musicians he chooses to accompany him...saw him live during his Graceland tour, and OMG!!! All the drummers and guitarists and others along with his astouding poetic and musical talent..was almost an overload, but in best possible way:) Good example of his live work, thanks.

  • This is a great rendition of the song!!

  • Vampire Weekend strives to be him!

  • wow, samuel jackson really is in everything

  • Great version however I still prefer the Central Park version with Art as there is just no replacing his voice on the harmonies

  • I still miss you Julio. I wish I could tell your mom how much you loved her and how beautiful your sister is and how smart she is. I miss the nights we'd curl up under the covers and hold eachother and talk. I wish u didn't do that one last hit. you'd still be here, We love you and miss you, I miss us singing this song to each other. Those were some of my favorite memories of school.

  • @ritacatl she died from drugz? lol.

  • @ritacatl - My friend Julio died of a drug overdose. We use to sing this song to each other. He was a great guy that couldn't get rid of his demons. I miss him.
