it is unfortunate that this and the other spillway opened a few days ago has to be opened at the expense of thousands of people, but for the benefit of hundreds of thousands of people and large businesses that are vital to the USA economy. Before people blame the Corps, they need to know that the Corps only does what Congress tells it to do via authorization law and appropriation law.

Morganza is my old stomping grounds. I spent most of my childhood in the spillway. My grandfather, may he rest in peace, built crawfish ponds in the very front of the spillway, about two football fields from the bridge itself. I was 10 years old when I ran my first 50 crawfish traps, right there at the foot of that bridge. It's all about to get washed away when they open those gates. Mississippi River +1, Louisiana Residents 0.

I read in the news that the Army Corps of Engineer are going open more gates this sunday.
Don't worry folks about the damage the flood going to created because Judgement Day is just few more days.

May 14, 2011- this is only the second time the Morganza has been opened since it was built in 1954 (the first was in 1973).
Man may have this beast by the tail for now, but eventually, the river will win.
