  • Is it normal for the bread to taste too salty? Kind of like baking soda? The bread looked fine but it tastes strange. I've never had the bread before so I'm not very sure.

  • Irish soda bread is just plain gross.

  • @xxdiogenescynicxx Then why the fuck are you watching a article about making soda bread if you don't like it. Your a fucking nutter.

  • I love Netflix? I hate commercials!

  • yay! im irish!!!!

  • I have the same sift! and the same bowl in a different colour ^_^ neat.

I was hoping to get tips on notching the dough right before the bake ... but this was a bit too crude for me ... oh well. Looks yummy nevertheless.

  • why does it take 45-55 minutes to bake? i've seen yeast bread take less time than this

  • am i the only one who clicked on this video thinking it was rootbeer and bread from the store?

  • @TheForgottenMarioBro no u aren't. so did i .

  • In less than 2 minutes? You really think that is long enough to tell us how to make it? Really? You sure? Ok. Well I hope so.

  • We Irish would never eat bread like that mess you just baked..!! No way is that an Irish soda..!??

  • That's not proper soda bread

  • on st patricks day ,why do we celebrate that catholic bringin that roman nonsence here nothin only pain and misery

  • I am Irish and eat this like every other day !

and this is not how u make it !!

  • your right its not.... you donr use bread flour because the old irish didnt have bread flour and you're not meant to knead it......?!?!?!??

  • I like beer bread more, mostly because of the Guinness.

  • i have soda and/or potato bread most mornings for breakfast with good irish bacon, sausages and free range eggs... called a 'fry'.... i live in Ireland lolololol... I didnt dis the soda I just answered lpurples question about whether or not to add eggs.... only when you place a fried or poached egg on top of fried or toasted soda... soooo yummy :-)

  • it would taste a lot better if you add yeast to it also. It woul have a richer taste =)

  • I thought soda bread was moutain dew and wonder bread

  • It looks nice, but it looks nothing like the Soda bread my nan make, and she is from the west of Ireland!

  • I use soda bread flour, buttermilk pinch salt.A wee tip how you know its cooked is tap it underneath and you hear a hollow sound...great with butter and homemade jam

  • i've heard of people making it without eggs. i use 2. the no raisins in it is new to me. irish brown bread is the irish bread without raisins.

but we dont use that mehtod

  • I prefer a nice RUM CAKE!!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmm. My old boss made the mistake of bringing a rumcake to work that his wife made, not knowing that she used 2 fifths of rum! Fun times.

  • is this like beer bread? or whatever has carbonation.. its sooooooo good (and yes the alcohol is cooked out of it...)

  • i thought these were called poppers. er thats what alton brown said. :(

  • You can't trust everything that you see on television. Alton Brown is also not a cook, so you really can't go off of what he says.

  • he's not a cook???

but he's on foodnetwork... cooking! :O

  • He is a cook, but I think what lupinbebop meant was that he isn't trained in culinary arts. He went to school to be a director (I think?)...

  • Yes. What is your point here? Jeff Corwin is on the Food Network cooking, too. That doesn't make him a cook. The Food Network will take any B- or C-list celebrity and put them on there cooking something. How do you think Rachel Ray got her start? All the housewives that watch the Food Network thought she was just like them and started chatting about it. She's not that good looking. She sounds like a very hoarse teenage boy. She wasn't trained to cook, either. Just like Alton wasn't.

  • You guys know to much.

  • That's the beauty of the Internet. All the world's information at your fingertips. You should check it out sometime. :)

  • oh you are all crazy... alton brown is a cook geez... maybe it is referred to by a few different names..

  • Actually, I think he did graduate from a culinary school a couple years before starting Good Eats. He just didn't get famous from starting a few restaurants unlike a few of the people on Food Network like Bobby Flay or Emeril.

  • I wish I had seen this before someone told me to make soda bread for a bake sale. I ended up using way too much Dr. Pepper and a lot of people got really sick.

  • lmao

  • Note to self: Dr. Pepper is not a doctor.

  • @Kinetik07

    LOL!!!!

  • @Kinetik07 Kiss begs to differ.

  • cool
