  • Fig 10 sounded abit like the solo on hey

  • 2:40

    He's the genius of improvisations.

  • hey look kids a guitar!!! remember thos things???

  • John is the best musician who is still alive. I started playing guitar because of him. I did a few covers of his song. Plz check it out (@mychannel) and tell me what you think about it. It would help me alot. JF 4 ever

  • he is an amazing musician

  • man hes burnt outtt

  • @TheSonsofHorusx ????? shut the fuck up

  • @TheSonsofHorusx Perfect example of 'talk before you think'

  • Based off of the description of soloing at 3:20 - 4:25, he would probably end up getting in a fight with Zack Wylde if they were stuck in an elevator.

  • @MrMan0029 well.I did sound at a lot of punk/metal venues. I would rather seen spoken word, or poetry read, over metal now. hardcore. the whole works. 'shredding' doesnt compensate.

  • @MrMan0029 thats why he is better.

  • I'm Argentine and I do not understand a shit of what he says, but for some reason the video does not advance, will be your beautiful voice? ♥

  • damn, I just want to have a guitar right now and play something just like that, even thought I can't play the guitar... :))))))

  • @EnchantingIllusion well my friend I felt the same way you do so I started playing guitar and it make may life 100% better

  • @JFfanforever yeah, that's cool, but I think that I just couldn't learn it, and I don't have much time.. and I know these are all just excuses, but well... :) congrats to you, anyway :D

  • I like to sit and have fun by myself

  • "It's like a different dimension. You've got a high thing and a low thing, which is like two things, rather than a chord which is like one thing.. yeah"

for some reason that made me go "whoah...."

  • with what i just heard for music and styles of music i feel like i am nothing.I wish i will learn a lot of things about guitar and especially for music

  • @fruscidant don't think that way. After some time playing, you' ll look differently on some things, especially on different playing tehniques, you'll understand more. Practise regulary and it will come to its own..

  • @JFfanforever You seem to be good at playing with that comment :) Do you know what strings he's hitting at 07:53 ? Is he bending the g string on 14 fret and then a hammer on and pull off from 12 to 15 on the b string?

  • @GuffeHedning yes, he's actually bending the g with his middle and ring finger. but he takes his ring finger off to hammer ons and pull offs on the b and the high e string. i can't seee what frets is he playing..

  • @JFfanforever really thank you for your comment from what you said you have to be a musician or you know a lot about music are you playing an instrument?(soz for english)

  • @fruscidant I play guitar but I'm not a musician and I also know probably less about music than you think I do :) ...and don't apologise..

  • Can't Stop and Scar Tissue

  • @7h3tSLDR02 He does it on scar tissue I think

  • Are there any songs where John does that 2 note improvision?

  • 7.50 onwards is just insanity

  • Took me at least half an hour to play Fig.6 very differnet from his version.. much slower or with more breaks.. but he just makes what´s in his mind and creates amazing riffs!!

OMG I almost had to cry when he played Fig.9

If it had been longer I would have cried <3

  • God

  • Available for tutoring? :P

  • he is such a genius. theres few artist that match the amount of respect i have for this guy. this just sounds so awesome.

  • i'm brazilian and can't understand so much, but's awesome

  • Great man.genius!!

  • "I just didn't want to be straight in anyway"

  • My favorite guitarist ever. Im ok robably biased though since the chili peppers are my favorite band.

  • anyone knows what scales he's soloing in from the beginning to 1:55? :)

  • @ujbnvf google John Frusciante Fig 8, there's a tab for the intro.

  • @RobTheMisfit Thank you!

  • I love his playing and I'm a big fan, but when you actually look at his play its pretty elementary. Pentatonics, and wah pedal.

  • @lonewolf604 which leads us to a clever conclusion that you can do great things with simple means.

  • @rpbkrpbk Exactly, I mean I wasn't putting him down at all. Look at Eddie Van Halen vs Jimmy Page.

  • @lonewolf604

    the best shit anyway

  • At 7:16 he plays a famous Hendrix lick from Voodoo Chile Blues (Electric Lady Land).

  • Listen all you fucks, who gives a shut what guitar he plays but for the record on under the bridge and most of that album he uses a 1964 fender jaguar but he could make seasick steves 3 string tin can guitar sing sweeter than most players out there just wish I had time to practise 10-15 hours a day

  • i am actually amazed watching this

  • John Frusciante is sincere and deep when it comes to his music and the way he expresses himself within it.I see him as a truly universal inspiration for any musician of any style of music. Again John KNOWS HIS SHIT!!

  • @punkrocker12688 yeah well I really don't know what we were talking about so I don't really care.... still john frusciante is awesome!

  • Have to say tho im not a huge RHCP fan, i have ALWAYS respected RHCP as true rock stars !!

  • so so true i always said fuck all guitarist have "style". my favorite guitarist is robyn fynch (other than hendrix who is the god weather he is your favorite or not) from NIN, but not being a huge RHCP fan and having never thought about it much, i have to say John Frusciante fucking rocks big time ! being influenced by "egoless" rock like Tool, NIN e.c.t I think J F is my new guitar playing inspiration !

  • @punkrocker12688 well, i don't kniow what you're talking about, cause if you look at the guitar, you see that there is some damage on the top. just like is original (most famous) strat, so you're talking bullshit... and beside that it doesn't matter wich guitar he's playing on, it's always awesome!

  • @pindametjamkaas what are you talking about? i said that he never uses the orange fender in the can't stop video, i never said anything about him not using any strats. and the strats he uses in both of those videos, im pretty sure, is the same one in this video

  • @punkrocker12688 whoops, replied to the wrong person xD this was meant to go to @Dzjurrm

  • @punkrocker12688 Yeah he said himself once that he didn't like playing the guitar in can't stop and that he only plays old guitars :) the guitar in the can't stop video was just for show

  • figure 8 tab anyone??

  • John Frusciante has a gift of being able to translate his feelings into something tangible indirect experience for the audience.

  • 3:11 That's what she said ;-)

  • have you got the tabs of the fig.6? I want to play that on my guitar...please answer!!! =D

  • A 16th note thats like "doodoodoododododododododododododo"

    Classic Frusciante

  • Is this video from a dvd or something?

I'd love to see the whole thing.

  • Fig. 10 Looks like "Hey" solo =)

  • guitar name?

  • @netapytojas American made 3 tone sunburst, fender strat bro. Not sure what year, but knowing John it's probably vintage.

  • I'm sooooo glad I found this video. I've been listening to his technique and the way John plays for a long time. Really helpful. Not to mention just a cool guy to listen to. Sweet.

  • i jizzed...

  • fuck rolling stone putting john at #72 on their list. ...how did he go from 18 to 72?!

  • @oaxaca911 which list is this? That's ridiculous!

  • @GregVlog rolling stones 100 greatest guitarists

  • That's an aweful lot of burgundy for one room.

  • @062829648 thats cuz burgundys the shit.

  • @062829648 that's not burgundy, it's brown. Burgendy is dark red

  • ...it justs, it justs, it justs creates this dimension to it because then you got two...you've got a high thing and a low thing and it's basically like two things rather than just playing a chord which makes it like one thing...

  • @norwali lol..i pause for a few second to get what the meaning of it..but even now i'm not sure what i thought is what john means

  • @1990meer He's an absolute genious! He couldn't have said it any better!

  • keep on writing music forever John.

  • the fact that frusciante looks a lot like jesus is no coincidence, he is jesus, and I'm one of the disciples, there is no judas

  • "you can have a high thing thing and a low thing instead of just playing a chord and having only one thing"!!!!!!lmao

  • 3:11

"You can be the base player and guitar player at once"

    GENIUS!

  • @HideFromFacebook

    Sorry your Majesty!

  • he is awesome!

  • epic faces

  • why is one of the best parts of this godly video cut off at the end...

  • JOHN IS THE BEST

  • Figure 9 is Improvising!!!! :-O

John is so beautiful... just beautiful

  • Great Scott Marty! It's John Frusciante!

  • Youre amazing! Could you make some cool tab to follow from that chill tune that you played second? Thanks so much!

  • It's really interesting watching him trying to explain his genius. He's like translating guitar into English right now.

  • @fluzzywuzzy untitled 2

  • @willsimo1000 thanks ;)

  • @FluzzyWuzzy sounds a lot like "Leave All The Days Behind" off The Brown Bunny OST.

  • he's just... incredible

  • please anyone, in the start of the chord / melody two note inventions what he plays sounds just like one of his songs but i cant find it, whats it called?

  • @FluzzyWuzzy It's not 'Untitled #2' on his Niandra LaDes & Usually Just A T-Shirt album, is it? That's what it reminds me of, anyway.

  • @ScooperGetHype thanks, i think the "Song" i was looking for is an intro on one of his or rhcp concerts, bit thanks for taking time :)

  • I love the 1:59 lesson so smooth to hear and psychodelic d-_-b

  • I miss you so much john..... I wish I didn't have to share you with the rest of humanity...

  • He´s so greeeeaaaaaattttt...i learn too much from him :) ¡i love you john!!!!

  • I like this better than RHCP stuff.

  • @xconnor - no, i'm an adult and a musician with real ears. you're a perpetual adolescent - even if you're over 40.

  • fuck that 82 who disliked this video

  • Does anybody know what he is playing at 1:58 ?

  • he speaks!

  • john improvises melodies that are better than some melodies people take weeks to create for songs

  • white Jimi Hendrix

  • funny how he said '2 things instead of 1 thing', like so plain and blunt that a 4th grader can understand it. but its true

  • 1:59 - I just thought he was going to play Scar Tissue =s

  • "Its all about playing music. Its not about what you can show people what you can do with a piece of wood in your hands that has strings on it." He's like the Gandhi of guitar. I wish more guitarists followed that rather than just showing off and making money for it.

  • 4:49

  • where does this come from?

  • I think that californication was the closest to John's solo work. Many effects of the Empyrean Showed up on Stadium arcadium also.

  • holy shit ive been playin guitar for jus over 2 years and the stuf that john was sayin about the solo philosiphy was almost the same stuf im thinkin about wen i try and make music with my friends. i cant solo... well not that well i need to learn more about the fretboard. but once i learn most of the fretboard physics im just gonna go off! i cant wait!!! its gonna be so fun! ill never be bored! if i knew how to play like john i wood play guitar nonstop forever! i play enuf and im not that good.

  • fender NEEDS to release a john frusciante edition strat!!

i will be the first to buy it

  • @oaxaca911 theres nothing special to it, its just a strat. He could use any strat and it would still sound good.

  • @oaxaca911 Actually John was approached by fender for his own signature strat, but he turned it down.

  • @Caboose39 what?! how do u know?

  • @oaxaca911 i think they wanted to, but froosh declined because he only plays strat models that are from before 1970. so it would be kind of pointless.

  • @blouchj what difference does the year make?

  • @oaxaca911 i'd like that, but i think everyone has to do his own thing when its about to play an intstrument :)

  • @oaxaca911 It will never happen. John only plays pre-CBS Strats. He would never allow them to put his name on anything new production, and he shouldn't. Even modern Fender "Custom Shop" guitars don't measure up to Pre-CBS instruments. They don't harden the bridge mounting screws properly. They don't use the right steel in the bridge block. I can't even list all their deficiencies in one comment. In short, they could make it look like John's '62, but it wouldn't be. Not even close.

  • John uses old 60s stratocasters which are damn expensive, almost 30,000 dollars and his Fenders are standard stratocasters so is useless if fender realise a J F model. Besides I think that if you want to sound like him you need to have his fingers and his talent, its not about the guitar. But if you like a guitar like that save 30,000 dollares and buy a 1960 original fender stratocaster XD.

  • @loombaron i think it helps if u have long fingers too

  • yup, long fingers help but I think its a matter of hability. I know guys with long fingers who cannot play even a chord. In the case of John and so many others is talent. Love John, he is amazing. Im happy he is alive and in good shape now.

  • @oaxaca911 I'LL BEAT YOU TO IT BRO!!!

  • @oaxaca911 Its not about the tool, its how you use it. Apparently Fender has approached Frusciante about this but he didn't agree to have his name stamped on a product made by some corporation. Any of the current s tandard Fender strats are great instruments and will sound great in the hands of a disciplined player. If you really want to sound like Frusciante keep an eye out for one made in the early 60's with a price tag of $50 000.

  • @oaxaca911 I'd prefer a John Frusciante Jaguar in orange like in the video from Can't Stop :3

  • @cammense That guitar is actually a model called a Fender Toronado and it was only used for the video because it fit in with the color schemes in the video. John never actually used one, but i still wouldn't mind having one haha

  • @punkrocker12688 That's awesome.. I may have to search for one of those. Thank you for telling me!

  • @punkrocker12688 What? no john always uses that guitar

  • @punkrocker12688 that's johns most famous guitar -.-

  • @Dzjurrm ummmm, no its not, he's never actually played it, he only plays vintage fenders and his most famous guitars are the 1962 strat he's using in this video and his white strat

  • look under the bridge slane castle he uses this guitar look by the way live earth he uses this guitar look much more live video's!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In comparison to John, every other guitarist just seems like a poser douchebag. I just can't help it, John is just so true about music, others don't seem to have that feeling.

  • 7:00 minutes is a lot like hey (not hey oh) of of stadium arcadium :)

  • Well I am 90 years old and I have been playing guitar for all of those years. I got 17 doctorates in music and I have 48 songs hit number one. I released 43 albums and they have all gone diamond within the first hour of them dropping. I think John is a good guitar player but that is only because I taught him everything he knows. Same with every other guitar player you think is good. Yep Stimmy the Timmy taught them all. Oh I forgot to mention rolling stone named me best ever at every instrument!

  • @lazermonster Cool story bro.

  • @lazermonster ok so if all that is true, why in the hell are you on youtube commenting on videos when you could be doing bigger and better things, ik its complete bullshit what your saying becouse i havent heard shit about you at all and if your as good as u think you are then come with more proof then just words

  • @burnandbleed93 trololol?

  • Comment removed

  • @burnandbleed93 I cannot take credit for any of my work because of the Illuminati. If I record any bit of audio or video they will capture me and take to their secret Illuminati headquarters. In this place, I will be forced to makeout with every member of the Free Masons, past and present. But my son, if you still don't believe it is me listen to any song recorded or not, even if it is you playing the instrument it is me, my creation. Just look up Illuminati on the Google, Educate Yourself!

  • @lazermonster

    seems legit

  • @lazermonster ...god?

  • @thevas1 especially when he and flea did that solo before californication on that one concert.

  • no one is saying he didn't play a good show(s). i'm just saying his playing in this video is not special, spine-tingling or difficult. i can take myself or a 14 year old student send you frusciante's .mp3 and mine and the 14 year old, blind fold you and you would NOT be able to distinguish him.

not to say he didn't play well at some show guy, that's a different story.

  • well everyone's spine is subjective!

but he has the luxury of playing PERFECTLY on studio recordings. i said he can write good parts.

if i blindfolded you - and I am a TRAINED musician, my friend, i GUARANTEE: you would NEVER be able to distinguish between his playing (i'm talking in this video) and some dude i got at a guitar store. you would simply not be able to do it.

  • @caesarcerf Then why does he sound so incredible live? Go listen to a video of Don't Forget Me or Californication live from 2002-2007 and it just sounds magical.

  • @caesarcerf And just to clarify, he improvises the majority of his part, so he isn't just copying out a recording.

  • @caesarcerf You're an idiot.

  • I like the philosophic effort-- While I have no idea if he acheives as I do not know his music, I have to acknowledge his attempt to put the dynamics of music into words which is all too often presented in terms of note and chord relationships. and even then, like philosophy itself, goes largely ignored (just teach me the song brother)-- but to him whom hath ears, let him remember, Knowledge is power.

  • TehSorso - Non-sense. Guitar is EXACTLY (and I've played well for many years) is PRECISELY the kind of thing one can do "on auto pilot."

If Mr. Frusciante has 'soul,' it is PLASTIC soul.

  • @caesarcerf Then perhaps you could describe why Frusciante's playing invokes such powerful feelings and emotions when you hear it? There's a reason why his (and the RHCP's for that sake) songs have the ability to send shivers down your spine.

  • He's such a ninja!!!

  • imonyourfacewoot - it sound as if you're Dutch - you need to remain out of the fan-boy coffee bars and lay off the 'Frusciante' weed! That's my point, young man, his renowned 'soul' sucks, it his is an indication of his 'feel.'

He may be good at constructing (on occasion) chord sequences; e.g.Under the Bridge. If these youtube videos are an indication of his feel or technique, he has neither.

  • @caesarcerf I love it when people say some guy or the other doesn't have soul, like they know what they're pouring into the playing... or as though it is possible to play ANYTHING without pouring a huge amount of your soul into it. Hands don't play guitar son, otherwise everybody'd be Hendrix.

  • @TehSorso Unfortunately, I think most people equate how much they themselves connect to the music with how much the artist is feeling it.

  • @Muso992 words of truth my friend

  • You are the men! sos un genio looco

  • boy he's really pretty average isn't he.

  • @caesarcerf Being a good guitar player isn't playing ridiculously fast solos. It's all about soul, and frusciante has more soul in one fingertip than most people have in their whole body.

  • John is the reason why my guitar playing improves everyday, and why my knowledge and understanding of music escalates

  • 2:43 to 3:09 ... love. it.

  • Figure 9 is what i get up for in the morning.

  • please can someone tell me what song fig 8 is from... its gorgeous

  • @RHCPsnwboarder2121 It sounds like an untitled song from his first solo album (#3 if I'm not wrong),but not exactly, so it's probably just an impro

  • very inspirational

  • "I just didn't want be straight in any way" 6:13 lol

  • he's sort of pretty good with a guitar

also, I have been known to sometimes undestate things.

  • is it just me or did i just watch jesus give a guitar lesson

  • 81 people are deaf

  • how old is he for today?

  • @ofir1747 41

  • Taking lessons from john is def on the bucketlist.

  • 0:20 genius note to play

  • @NEILAE86 : agreed. A whole song played like that is an inaudible melody

  • he should make a song with fig.9.. I could listen to that all day

  • I honestly think he was FUCKING STONED when he did this lol

  • @DaBoMb305 He would never ever be stoned again. Watch "John Frusciante VPRO part 1" to see why. He was a total junkie for a while.

  • please come back to the REDDDDDD HOT CHILIIIIIIIII PEEEEEEEEEEEPEERRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSS by the way you re my IDOL
