read the text again. the person who took this video does not live there. and the handpump is for passerbys. Indians are compassionate to humans as well as animals. and yes we share a lot of things ;)
@rishi - my comment was not directed at you. There are many who had complained that you should have helped the cow instead of shooting it. I do know from your comments that you did help it, but in my opinion this cow has learnt how to help itself. Better leave it that way rather than make it dependent by "helping" it.
@allwhowanttohelpthecow - The cow seems to be very clearly helping himself. Sure the camera man can "help" it today. Is he going to around every day to "help" the cow ?
the villagers were watching me film this and they realised that while this cow is there in front of them daily, they had ignored it. Since that day they have kept a bucket new the pump which is filled by someone or the other at all times. so people do learn if we can stop for a minute and set a small example without worrying about criticism or that people will call you a fool
Dude dont get carried away with this cow, its a freaking cow drinking water she looked at u and thought "i think this guy has a fetish for cows id better hurry drinking and get the hell out of here"
In Psychology there is a famous experiment in 'Learning': Two sticks can be snapped to become a longer stick to reach a banana - but neither of them was long enough to reach the banana. A Chimpanzee, Sultan, attaches the two sticks to reach the banana.
This famous experiment in Psychology was done by the psychologist, Köhler who gained fame with his studies on cognitive processing involved in problem-solving by animals.
Thank you for sharing this. Man's anthropocentrism is astounding, but this video should help demonstrate that animals do reason. And they can figure out how to use tools.
The cow is intelligent alright! But what about the man recording? Where did his intelligence go? He could have gone and helped the cow - given the recorder to someone nearby to whom he says, "Don't speak naa, I am recording. So much for the 'holy cow' concept in India"
While my intelligence is intack, but it would be good for you if you would rediscover your observation and patience. ...for you havent read the writeup with this video in which i clearly state that if i spent about a minute in recording this, i spent good 20 minutes standing and pumping water for this holy cow which we INDIANS love as a lovable animal and not for some crapy religious misconception people carry sine ages across some parts of the world.
He had a far greater mission in getting this footage for the world to see. The cattle was doing well enough on his or her own. By getting this video, those who watch it will have a little harder time justifying the killing and eating of animals because they're "dumb".

@Forremarks unfortunately you dont know the man personally . Ive known him work for stray animals in India for last 6 years(6 yrs i have known him he has been working for much longer) I dont think such comments are appropriate without knowing the truth. He not only helped that cow, he has helped countless others AND many humans too. (he also fights for poor children and their rights)
I was just trying to differentiate the differences between simple learned behaviors and the ability to reason (what separates humans from other animals). I wasn't trying to start an argument.
This isn't really an examply of unrequiting intelligence. It's a simple learned behavior by positive reinforcement. The cow is smart enough to learn, I give it that. But I would hardly call this cow an intelligent being.
please tell me what else would you call a cow who is in yuor own words smart enough to learn. the word i can think of is "intelligence".
lets give up oue egos as humans. i can show you freaked out videos in which a dog is talking (proper words from a language, as in speaking ; my own dog did it ...he recently passed away), birds forming houses with phonomenon archtectural finness, etc etc. They are both intelligent, adaptative and emotionally qualified. so r humans but v ignore it
@equidreams replying to a comment on youtube isn't much more complex, only different :). Two days ago I saw a very complex behavior of dancing, presenting and mating of two small flies while was in the garden. The female even had the presence of mind to move them both into the shade away from predators and the sunlight mid session :). I've had a rabbit living with me full time in my house for 6 years and am very impressed not only by his intelligence but his love and caring is amazing
Amazing video Rishi , thanks for sharing it with us all. It just proves how intelligent our fellow creatures are , something so many people choose to ignore.

That's what we call a distinction without a difference. You might want to catch up on the last 30 years of animal cognition studies.
