This isn't buttering. When you butter your board is on the ground at all times. A butter is mainly a nose or tail press and a rotation at the same time. A true butter is shown at 1:42, note where he has only his tail on the ground and his nose is in the air. He then spins around without leaving the ground or allowing his nose to touch the snow until he is done. The grab is just a little extra, you don't have to do it but it will help with keeping your nose above the snow.
