  • @leonthebaker Yes. I want to respond, but words are so inadequate.

  • This is merely two masters communicating across more than 200 years... JS simply whispers.. 'with feeling Julian'.... and Bream scrunches up his face and plays, and whispers back.... 'yes master....'

  • MarkAntony Many thanks from Lima, Perú. I have a cassette with splendid Mr. Bream's versions of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, Britten's Courtly dances from 'Gloriana' and Vivaldi's Concert for Guitar. Its a souvenir of my youth, thanks again.

  • Thats right, he's so good his colon could play Bach better than most.

  • i think mr Julian Bream was playing piano, until i saw the guitar on this video

  • explendido !

    Magnific !

  • I am saddened by the negative comments. I am glad to hear the maestro play this.

  • thank goodness for the change of shot at 1:20- I'm sure a few viewers thought he was pulling his pud for the first part...

  • a pioneer in both baroque interpretation and comb overs! JB rocks!!

  • there is somebody cutting an onion

  • one of the best music pieces in history of men

  • @maurobgoode

I agree, but what about the best music pieces in history of rabbits?

  • listening to this wonderful music and these people are talking about pants and taking shit, what intelligence!

  • censorship at 0:28, a note they don't want us to hear. but why?

  • @selatoc Every time i read your comment it makes me smile lol. should be a top comment :p

  • très bon visage lol

  • great, but he should take a shit before getting on stage next time!

  • @ToXin88 you think thats bad, you should watch slava gregorian play! his whole body moves with his face!

  • Not very good. Disappointing for somebody with his fame.

  • @jsnauwaert You couldn't do better...

  • How he does that effect with the guitar at 1:50 ~ 1:53? Bream is a master.

  • @poveron7

    1:50 ~ 1:53

Bream is the master? Psht! He needs a guitar to do it... I can do it with a single wire!

  • legendary combover... face it man you're bald!!

  • Nice playing (as ever) but I'm not sure I like this interpretation. I think he over complicates it a little bit. I prefer John Williams' interpretation (and I never usually say that) as it is a tad simpler and cleaner as a result. That's just my opinion anyway

  • @Hoogenbloogen The very early Williams album with Suite I on one side and Suite III on the other!! I've had it for years and years, still listen to it a lot. I think he was still in college when he produced that, or soon after.

But this interpretation is amazing too...

Bream always had better tone than Williams, to my ear; fuller, more liquid somehow. Williams plays Bach more or less like a harpsichord, each note crystalline and perfect, but no variation or expression - like a key instrument

  • In the zone......

  • Oh god i see more idiots out here... How can you tell if the performance was good or not from this kind of crappy audio??? EVEN CD quality recordings are FAR FAR away from live performances... It just looks like you poor people never been to a live performance .... Even those guitarist whom you guys say are 'sloppy' and 'crap' are amazing live.... You should just all shoot yourselves in shame... or I'll personally shoot you!... like Hitler...

  • you can just tell he want's to brag on stage.

  • Looks like he`s having an internal lol

  • 1:53 A Bit Techno

  • @MrArtemios He has certainly forgotten to go to the toilets before the concert !

    His interpretation has no taste.

  • Not a good example of the great master.... more like an insult.

  • Like the little bass thingie around 0:43

  • El inicio de este preludio es sensacional!

  • I agree that the editing of this video is awful. Nobody wants to see only his head! However, I can't understand this obsession with clinical perfection, because it is something which is 1) impossible and 2) when it becomes the main objective, it is usually at the expense of interpretation. I go to a lot more concerts of pianists/violinists etc than guitar, and I have NEVER heard someone who doesn't make mistakes.

  • I like Julian Bream a lot, but that first part could be him on the toilet as far as we know, dropping a couple of kids off at the pool.

  • Not very good. He sometimes simply makes plain mistakes, interrupting the musical flow. Don't understand why he got such a big reputation. Andrés Segovia was better.

  • @jsnauwaert "not very good"? are you kidding,, hes got such a big reputation because he's one of the most expressive guitarists of our time. if you "dont understand" why he has that reputation one has to wonder if you understand classical guitar???

  • @jsnauwaert it's not julian bream playing ! how can you think that bream plays like that ??

it's a joke of course !! bream is on the video, but not in the audio !

  • @cyllansse it is bream playing, for the one min that you actually see his hands instead of facial expressions you can see that he's is playing the piece. its all bream in video and audio

  • @ishymuu1 yes, you're right, it's Bream playing , but if you look at his face at the end.... i think he was sick that day... nobody is perfect...

  • @jsnauwaert

    Mistakes interrupt the music flow?

Now, I have been to some amazing concerts, and these concerts have always had "plain" mistakes. Perhaps you should attend concerts where people, and not the radio, perform. Also, if these little occasional mistakes interrupt the music flow, then there is something wrong with your listening. There are so many nuances that effect a performance, and all you pay attention to is their technique. That's no way to listen, esp to a live performance...

  • I don’t think the audio is Julian Bream’s playing. Sounds like an overdub to me.

  • the cameraman was reading hes face lol

  • the cameram seems to have a head-fetish lol

  • Big deal, i sang this piece on my channel......

  • @joeberrymusic big deal....

  • @peppy6078 :)

  • with the sound off its like 2 minutes and 40 seconds of constipated julian bream

  • @ownzjo0 Perhaps you should try closing your eyes and keeping the sound on, in that case.

  • @ownzjo0 To be fair, it's only 1:20 - but man, does he work up a sweat.

  • @ownzjo0 It's the Orgasmic feeling that one gets when playing such piece.

  • Bream es el mas grande de todos los tiempos

  • That's the face I make when I cum.

  • lol stupid camera

  • 1:53 The guitar spontaneously detunes/retunes itself

  • A great classical player but he was also a great jazz guitarist in the early days...could've rolled with Almeida, Byrd,,Mattola.. likewise they couldve easily chosen the classical path. Interesting though they all had each others albums.

  • Great !

  • Classical guitar has and always will be the best.

  • @bobbyismysuperdog I myself am a Classical Guitar Player but im going to have to disagree despite the bias i commonly have when listening to music. There is truly no comparison in the color and dynamics of the guitar. There is also no comparison to the volume, stability, and range of the piano, and there is no comparison with the passion, vibrato, and sound of the typical orchestral instruments (cello, viola, & violin).

  • It would be foolish to try and replicate Vieuxtemps and Camille Saint-Saens brilliance on the guitar, it would be ridiculous to try and gain the beauty and uniqueness of Chopin, Beethoven, and Listz on the guitar, and it would be ridiculously foolish to try and replicate true guitar pieces on any other instruments. Each instrument has its incredible aspect, and it is impossible to uphold one and exclude the others as a true Classical Music appreciator.

  • @theviciousmagdiel

I have to disagree. I think it brings a new elegance to a piece or symphony when it crosses over. Listen to the Amsterdam guitar trio, for instance.

  • If you could see his hands your brain would explode out of your ears from all of the unfiltered awesome, be glad the cameraman saved you from such a fate

  • nice playing.

  • fantastic!! My all-time favorite guitarist, regardless of genre.....

  • homo cameraman.

  • stupid director and great performance =D

  • I thought to switch off for a moment... and couldn't!!! .....how could I stop this music????

  • Bravo Maestro...Oh ...I don't mind that I can't see his hands..I only use my ears. Bravo Maestro!!!

  • jajaja parece que esta cagando en lugar de tocar guitarra, pendejo el camarografo

  • @notlatsotsonalli567 jajaja, si cierto

  • brings back memories good & bad : ]

  • 1:30 MINS OF WATCHING A SHINY BALD HEAD...HEFTY PRICE TO PAY FOR WATCHING THIS VDO

  • Comment removed

  • Bream nails BWV 997, but no one plays 1007 as Segovia!

  • he is OK but he was missing depth

  • @lasmachas idiot

  • @lasmachas

    Let's see you do better...

  • just pretty amazing

i hope get that far some day

the impretation is almost racing `perfection

    just beautiful

  • they could have filmed more of his hands, his music is great but he aint much of a looker!!!

  • I love the ending, and the place, audience, suite, and mood.

i wish those days were back. when classical guitarists got media time :(

  • he looks like he has to poop real bad

  • Not up to his usual standard and he knows it. His face says it all at the end.

Then again, if I could play that 'badly', Id be well pleased.

  • It is always a delight to listen to his music! Check my rendition on my page!

  • Sometimes I look at classical guitarists & think is that all they can do... read notes that someone else wrote. Never improvise, never compose themselves. I know Bream dabbled in jazz but just the usual cliches no doubt.

Seems like an incomplete musical existence.

Oh well at least we get to hear the genius of Bach thanks to their performances.

  • @pobinr lots of classical guitarists are composers too, and a lot of the guitarists that don't compose will still rewrite, rearrange, and obviously reinterpret great music.

  • @pobinr Music is art. It´s all about touching people's souls. And Julian Bream defenetly touches my soul with his brilliant performances. Who cares if he doesnt compose. The guy is one of my favorite musicians.

  • @belinox I wonder if Bream just happened to get in their 1st & establish that niche. Since there have been hundreds classical guitarists equally as brilliant as Bream but he's got it all sown up market wise so they don't really get a look in CD sales wise.

  • can't everybody just listen instead of talking about seeing his hands?

  • Bream's facial expressions are with no doubt an important part of his playing, but not THAT IMPORTANT. Come on! I want to see his hands.

  • haha Julian Bream is apparently a master teacher yet he messes up on such an easy Bach song haha. but yeah fuck the camera man.

  • Blissful performance. Awesome composition by Bach and great rendition by Bream.

I see this piece as a compliment to Prelude in C Major. Folks who have played or deeply enjoyed Prelude in C Major may realize this.

  • u can't see his hands but look at how relaxed his shoulders are.

  • shooting is too good for this cameraman- we must find something more severe

  • Maybe he wasn't wearing any pants

  • @janmorez after all he was making sweet, sweet love to the guitar

  • @janmorez hahahaha

  • bream must have felt weird when he saw it for the first time maybe it was a camera girl great playing from a master thow

  • lol the video says prelude in G while the text says 1007 ...

look this is cello suit 1 bwv 1007 and it starts in C

By the way , brilliant performance and worthy of my stamp of approval.

  • I gotta say, I really liked it...

but yeah, the camera needed a shot of his left hand for us guitarists. Just a shot of his face gets a bit uncomfortable.

  • the cameraman must have been in love with Julian and not interested in the guitar at all.

  • thats sum fap style.

    sriously amayzin'

  • he's playing psp hehe joke. julian bream my favorite guitarist ever.

  • @albenizski

man. you have a way cleaner mind than I do.

  • The maestro did not treat this one as he should have...

  • @jewbrew haha explain?

  • Epic comb over!

  • great camera work - I'm going to hire this guy for my next instructional video

  • ahahahah

  • Muy lindo, me trae Paz y Armonía.

  • i hope the camera man was fired after this shoot.

  • @mcj3691 Or the director...he chooses the shots. Cameraman's just filming what he was told to film.

  • @mcj3691 agreed

  • @mcj3691 haha yes though the face shot can clearly show how the music affected him, which can be beneficial in a different less direct way.

  • @mcj3691 Know what you mean, I like to see the guitar playing and not just the face. Still, wonderful music. A sincere thanks to the one who posted this.

  • @mcj3691 XD

  • @mcj3691 i hope the camera man was shot after this shoot.

  • @mcj3691 me too!

  • @mcj3691 hahahah I love your comment its so funny

one thinks that Julian is about to explode , but you are right , i dont see why the camera is not on his hands

  • Yes - VERY annoying to have to look at nothing but his face while he's playing. What were they thinking?!? I'm surprised, though. I've heard much better versions of this piece. Bream is usually much better.

  • I HATE camera men who don't play guitar (obviously) and think it's just fine to not show us any left hand fingering until the end of the freakin' video...

  • Just an amazing song! 5 *

  • song:):)

  • Quite different from Segovia's version. Interesting comparision, love them both!

  • yeey my favorite classical guitarist. thanx for posting.

  • Why do they show only his face until 1.20??

  • this malfunction at 1:54 sounds strangely fascinating.

    @eirinikos:

it's quite silly to write something like this but actually you're right. ^^

  • brilliant

  • eirinikos typed that post with one hand, if you get my meaning

  • If you turn the sound off, you might think he's sitting there whacking off...

  • Disrespectful, but funny :D

  • no,YOU might think he,s wacking off :)

  • He looks concerned, too...

  • he plays it damn so vivid! me sooo happy :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video of my favorites, Bream & Bach!!! I'm in heaven!!!

  • i just want to see the comb-over the whole time

  • Wanker.

  • Nice of the cameraman to finally get some shots of his fingering, only halfway thru the music!

  • he also transcribed it so you can find his fingering on sheet of music

  • do you know where,thanks!

  • havbe a version of faber music 1970

  • Blame the editor, not the cameraman.

  • Eitherway, it'd be funny if at the start of the video it zoomed out and he was playing an xbox or something :P

  • Idiot cameraman. We want to see his hands.

  • i want his cool faces

  • @pobinr he felt in love with his face :D

  • @pobinr He has no hands. He does his job by foots

  • Genius at work.....

  • is he still playing ?

  • Wow, i played it while Bream was playing (great duet, altough he's a lot better than I)

  • lot better than me ?

  • it is I

(many people think it is better than me but the complete sentence would be "he's a lot better than I am" thus "than I")

I learned it from an SAT study guide :P

  • I wish there was a vid of him playing rossiniana online :( the recording i have heard of him playing it is the most ridiculous tour de force i have ever heard

  • este tema me encanta

    grande Bream

    *****

  • magician.

  • this is so easy for julian bream.. the master

  • thanks a lot....!!!

  • I am glad to have the opportunity to see the Bream videos you post.

    Tim

  • in the title it say its in D, and in the discription it says its in G.

  • The original was in G, the guitar transcriptis in D major.

  • @MarkAntony it has nothing to do it. If there is a transcription of BWV 846 in C major transposed in C# major you have to write the same C major, because you're referring to a C major piece, not a C# major one
