@megaemad is right. It should have gone boom. Yes, it's a molecule; however, you can see that the atoms comprising the molecule are split, which means boom. As for the "only if the atom is radiated," radiated means to have emitted rays. The word you want is radioactive. As to why certain radioactive elements are used for nuclear weapons, it's because they more easily undergo fission. A carbon atom can as well, it just takes a whole hell of a lot more work to do it. Also, it's a damn movie.
