Why people geople get confused between Goth Rock and Gothic Metal? Goth rock is an off shoot of post punk and Gothic Metal is a off shoot of Doom Metal. They're all good genres but Metal is Metal and Goth is Goth.
Who fucken cares... deathrock, post-punki, gothick rock, Cold -wave.... all of it is fucken Awesome!!! At least this video is accurate unlike the other videos on you tube where kids think bands like HIM and Evanescence, or Nightwish and Cradle of filth is fucking goth music...
@oramikleepunk Yes, its post-punk. Goth, New-Wave & Synthpop are all sub genres of Post-punk. Its a more refined version after the time of Ramones, Sex Pistols & The Clash which sounded too raw.
Now this is goth music at its best , for the most part, and a non-misleading video like some. Congratulations you know the originality and true goth....

A good list but I would have included more Sisters of Mercy songs like "Alice" and "Black Planet" and moved songs like "Nine while Nine" and "Driven like the snow" to the top of the list.
i love Siuoxsie and the banshees! Siouxsie is the best. And Sisters of mercy. Bauhaus are one of the best goth bands too (i love Stigmata martyr and double dare). yes, you chose some great songs and bands. But from Bauhaus i think you should choose Bela Lugosi's dead too :D

"being gothic is meant to blablabla..." I ignore this kind of assertive phrases. People who listen to goth rock do not always have to be clad-in-black like most of the gothic subculture. Similarly I do not have to see bells and vampires as essential parts of goth rock. Besides I am not a predictable goth rock listener unlike you.

Most of these bands are post punk or darkwave.Deathrock and the batcave era is the only gothic music.

well, you have right about Nightwish, but there are a lot of Gothic metal bands, like Tristania, Draconian etc. Gothic metal exist as genre.

hardly any of them songs are actually gothic, or sound to me distinctly gothic.
where are the bells, the strangeness gothic music has about it. Being gothic is meant to twist your mind not.

new dawn fades is a great example of early goth rock, along with The birthday party, their song six strings that drew blood is mind blowingly dark.
