  • Fantastic Chery!!!! I´m a guitarist from Argentina. I loved also your version of "Misty"!!! who made the Misty´s arrangement?? I´d like ot play it! Thanks!!!

  • For a long time I thought women weren't allowed to play the guitar. Now it seems they're everywhere. It's a good thing they changed the rules. You played this beautifully.

  • How beautiful is to enjoy such good interpretation of this waltz. You really made me feel like sitting taking a nap in front of a tiny house somewhere in venezuelan plains. Just heart-touching.

    Greeting from Caracas, Cheryl ^^

  • This just can't be more amazing, it can't, i have no words to describe how amazing i find your performance, Madame, i am Venezuelan and listening to Lauro's composition played by such an amazing top professional it's just breathtaking

  • Amazing

  • Excellent performance!

  • Ahhh excelente!! saludos desde México!! :D

  • just discovered you and so grateful for the listening pleasure. Im now a fan. thankyou so much.

  • Your playing is heavenly.

  • HOW GREAT IT IS TO RE DISCOVER YOU AGAIN . last time I saw Cheryl Grice was in the 70s on bbc tv. i was impressed then. This is a superb little cameo with mountains of feel and intimacy. Love the whole performance and salute your talent and ispirational mastery. thank God for Youtube

  • Your playing brings me goose pimples and raises the hairs at the back of my neck. You play with such verve, and such passion yet with complete control. It's a divine pleasure to listen to your flowing technique. Superb. Thank you for these uploads.

Best wishes from a plodding old 'Jazzer!'

    John (JW)

Felicitaciones

  • very good, i play that song too ^^

  • I particularly like those changes of mood you put on this lovely latinamerican tune. Congratulations.

  • Beautifuly played!

  • beautiful interpretation!

  • im some spots, your left hand could be closer to the given fret, but thats just technical bs..tremendous playing, you are a great talent and I appreciate your taste for rubato

  • The guitar I am playing on here is a Martin Fleeson, an English luthier. It is about 28 years old. Martin unfortunately died of Cancer a few years after it was made.

Thankyou for your comments. I always play through my heart and soul, and I am profoundly moved when someone appreciates the difference.

    Ciao Cheryl

  • What I feel and see is a person who playes soulfull.

Passion and devotion speaks through your playing.

There are many ways to play a piece but the only way to play is in a congruent and alined way, that is what you do: playing the inside out.

You are an artist. What guitar do you play?

  • Cheryl, I am convinced you are one of the greatest ever.

  • @philides2 Thankyou. I appreciate your comment. :-)

  • amazing !!!

  • @nachohenlsd Thankyou!

  • She's very good! Beaut music too!

  • Very very nice!! It is the world of splendid music. The charm of the work which Lauro of the person of composition did not notice was right drawn. (TS)

  • nice, but in my opinion, you're playing too much with the speed, there's a large difference in some parts of your version, it sounds better when you keep a constant pace

  • @TheLouis608 Thanks for your input. I disagree (otherwise I wouldn't play it that way), but its nice to hear other people's ideas. My music is always evolving and changing, and responds to how I 'feel' the music at the time. But I always play Lauro Waltzes with rubato (unlike other european dances such as Bourees and Gigues).

  • @TheLouis608

I agree. Playing "rhythmical" (and I dont mean like a metronome) is so important in these South American pieces. There should be a flow of tempo, can not imagine people dance, stop and start their waltz again, slow down, stop and continue again etc. Its waltz after all , and I try not play it too "classical" but keep the flow going.

But otherwise, good technique etc. my 2 cents

  • @izBaku after seeing this video after a year I don't even like it anymore tbh xD, I remembered it being better, but apparantly it's not, don't wanna hate on the one playing, I just don't like this version. I mean it's a pretty hard piece to play without mistakes when you keep up the pace, but if possible I would like to see a faster version with a constant pace :P which I direct @cherylgriceguitar

  • ps .

the cushion you are using, do you feel it absorbs any sound energy or is it imperceptible ?

  • I have never noticed any difference in the sound whatsoever. But it has made a huge difference on my back problems due to posture!

  • If there exists an i d e a l interpretation of this piece ,

    then t h i s is the one.

    Bravo !

    (Wonderful guitar too ,Spanish ?)

    Greetings from Athens

  • Thankyou :-)

The guitar was made by Martin Fleeson, an Engkish luthier, 30 years ago.

Sadly he died of cancer a few years later, John Williams played one of his guitars for a while.

  • Cheryl, I feel this is the definitive recording of Lauro's Waltz #2.

I simply adore the way you've approached this piece, employing rubato to bring out all the expression, whilst maintaining the full flow of the music.

True music connoisseurs will never get tired of watching a performance like yours.

  • Thank you. You have just validated the way I feel about this piece, and music in general.

If I can move one person with my playing - then it is has been worth it.

I play everything from my heart and my soul - I dont know any other way to play.
