It's Reid and Sons Violin Company. I don't know if it matters when you switch. I find I play both fiddles off and on. It takes a few minutes to adjust when switching from one to another but it isn't too bad once you've done it a few times. There is a shorter distance between strings for bowing on the 5 string and I find I can play faster but its what you get used to I guess. In my opinion my 4 string violin is the better sounding one of the two so I still play it a lot. Ty for commenting.
I've only been learning on 4 string fiddle for about 8 months....wondered whether I should wait until I get a bet more experienced and swap to 5 string or is it better to switch early?
That is lovely! You are using very little of your bow, BTW. Some players get into that habit due to excessive volume, which you might solve with a mute. Fiddle on!
How long have you been practicing? I've been practicing since June! I'm learning I lost my love, and I think I can play it up to the same pace as you in a week or so lol, because I just got it 2 days ago! I want to learn embellishments as well, to give it a more fiddle sound.
I've been playing for 7 years but these videos are a year old now. I need to put more in but have been too busy lately. If you want to play really well you have to do lots of practicing, but it will be worth it. Put some videos in so we can watch your progress. Good luck!
Oh geeze I don't think I could! I can play *almost* at the same pace but definitely not as good. I'm a beginner, and so I tend to do it really fast and screw up, but sometimes I get all the notes right so I keep practicing like an hour a day, and hopefully I'll get my own violin and a clearer sound, because right now I squeak when I change strings! And the faster I play the harder it is to play straight and sometimes I forget, so I still have a long way to go before making any videos lol!
Believe it or not, I bought this fiddle on ebay. It came from the states from a company called Reid and Son Violin Company. It has a pickup in it which is very powerful. I had to have some adjustments made to it when I got it but nothing major. I've had it for a couple years and for the little I paid for it, it's really a pretty good violin.
Very nice..If i understand the tunings of both violin and viola, you now basically have both instruments now? Do you have to use a viola bow now because of the thicker C string? Just wondering, Thanks
Yes it is a combination of both instruments. It's the size of a violin and I use a violin bow. You can get 5 string violas too. I'd like to try one of those one day. Thanks for your comments.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...I was away for a month. I got the violin on ebay. It came from the US. It has a pickup on it too that works quite well.

I love it, 5 string fiddle! All the highs if a fiddle with a low extenting into the cello's range.
You played very well, also.

sorry i meant the tone sounds a little thin
GeneralZinglon 3 years ago
hmm seems you need to move your bow a little more, it would create a richer tone from the strings and cause less of the squeakiness
GeneralZinglon 3 years ago
Pardon me but there is no squeakiness in this piece that I can hear.

i agree i thought you played really well!

Oh ok, thank you. Can you tell me if which title you play first?
ennasuitenavarre 4 years ago
Hills of Glenorchy is first and I play it high then drop an octave and play it again, then I Lost My Love is played twice.

Thanks so much for clarifying. Now I can here where the second one begins...

Hi, can you please clarify: are Hills of Glenorchy and I Lost My Love two titles for the same jig? It sounds so lovely--thanks!
ennasuitenavarre 4 years ago
Thankyou. Actually they are 2 different jigs.
