@einekleineblues Just did. I like the guitar version better, as it has a wider variety of tone color. I also found Gonzalez's version to be more full of feeling. The way he drops down to piano draws one in. If I were a woman and Gonzalez played this to me, I'd know he loved me; if Heifetz played it, I'd know he had been to conservatory.
@LSpencer777 It's just a matter of taste, I suppose. However, I don't think the violin and guitar can be compared to each other for tone colour. True, the guitar has an intimacy that the violin can never fully reach, but the violin's dynamic and expressive range are far larger than the guitar's, simply because of the way it is played. For example, try making a crescendo on one note on the guitar!
Where did you find Heifetz's version? I didn't think it was on uTube. Please let me know.
@einekleineblues Where did I find Heifetz's version? I thought it was one of the related videos on the right, but now that I'm checking it for you I see that it was Heifetz's *arrangement*, played by someone else. Oops! No wonder I was not particularly moved. However, I just did a search on YouTube for Heifetz Estrellita and there were a couple of hits that feature the master himself. I'll have to listen to them when I'm not at work; maybe my opinion will change.
@einekleineblues I'm really pleased you have to wait until you hear 'the master'! Actually, thanks to your original comment, I've found at least two of Heifetz's recordings of Estrellita. Go for the one with I. Acron as accompanist - it has a picture of the 78 its take from. To date this version has had over 15000 viewings. To me this is quintessential Heifetz. Can't wait to hear your comments!
with this melody I think the most appropriate images would be of beautiful women of the 20s and 30s. His video makes him look a bit narcisist. Kind of like the narcisist movie director in the movie "Mr Bean's Holiday"
Thank you for your commnet. I feel as if I am looking up a full of stars at night on the hill or something. Anyway Ponce is a great composer, especially in the field of classic guitar. He and Segovia became good friends and
Yes. M. Ponce disguised himself that some of his compositions were composed by Weiss, A. Scarlatti, etc. They were joke to mystify critics on guitar music to corporate with maestro Segovia. Good old days! Refer to another ponce piece, a prelude, in my page.
This is just beautiful playing....

I was named after the song - and I have always spelled my name Estrellita. Someone should correct the spelling in the title.

@lita7560507 you have a beautiful name then. This piece is what my dreams are made of.

Pls correct the title page. The song is ESTRELLITA (LIttle Star)...NOT E-s-t-r-o-l-i-t-a.

Wow, first time I hear this piece played on the guitar.. Quite nice, but honestly I like e.g. the preludes better.

Gracias por tan bella interpretacion...
Hubiera sido lindo ver a una bella dama en las fotos...es mi opinion..despues de todo la cancion se llama Estrellita no Estrellito...

Wasn't this guy a big S.L. Weiss fan?
Didn't he even fool people with some compositions claiming they were Weiss, in later years it turned out to his?

Thanks for posting it. Enjoyed a lot and the guy seems to me he played without nails, did it he?
Vidas666 4 years ago
To my knowledge he used his nails when he played the guitar. He was a musician whose piano sounds like tone of heaven.
