  • So many comments about cartoons being crap today. When we (people born in the seventies like me) were kids, we didn't have cartoon network, or 800 channels to choose from for that matter. We had three or four channels. NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX which was just beginning. Even cable TV only had about 30 channels with one HBO, Showtime, TMC, Cinemax, and Disney channel. I think only the best was aired So much compitition out there has watered down TV. Good cartoons are few and far between.

  • 1 person must have slept in on Saturday mornings :(

  • Reminds me of Saturday mornings in front of the TV with a big bowl of Cap'n Crunch,Froot Loops or any other high-octane sugary cereal and enjoying being a kid. Those were some great times back in the days.

  • Great! Brings back a lot of happy memories. I agree with other posts here stating how bad Saturday morning TV is today. Sure glad I was a kid back then.

  • I really enjoy all the doucher's below that were worried about the animation! The focus of any cartoon starring Bugs and the rest of the gang is humor,Beavis and Butthead are terrible to look at but funny the same goes for South Park. The old Pink panther shows and episodes were not so good animation but the damn show was funny, humor is key.Japanimation is the same amount of retarded as Godzilla or mothra, stupid plot's and never funny,I've never seen a funny Japanese cartoon, has anybody?

  • @EBBadd1

Of course the focus is humor. And animation is a huge part of the humor. The difference between good and bad animation is often the difference between a laugh and a dead silence. And no, animation doesn't have to be smooth or even attractive to be funny (like Beavis and Butthead), but it has to be tailored to fit whatever it's trying to get across. If it isn't, and if it's just full of shortcuts and unskilled cheats, then it's going to deplete the writing no matter how funny it is.

  • Bugs Bunny's animation is pretty bad at 0:47 - 0:55. This was mostly done by Bil Hendricks' crew at Warner Bros. Animation (with Alex Lovy as director, and animators La Verne Harding, Volvus Jones, Ted Bonnicksen and Ed Solmon, these four animators later went to work for Filmation and H-B afterward.) Most of their cartoons featured Cool Cat, or Merlin the Magic Mouse

  • @wileyk209zback filmation was a terrible studio. rotoscoping and redundant animation frames, oftentimes in the same episodes.

  • @jstephenj Yep, and unfortunately, many of the 1967-1969 WB cartoons made by Bill Hendricks' crew had that Filmation look and feel to them!

  • @wileyk209zback It's no surprise that they're no longer in operation.

  • @wileyk209zback

Whoa, yeah. And what an awkward cut to that from what I assume was the work of Freleng's unit in 1960? It sure wasn't Jones's.

  • I wish they'd kept the first verse of the Roadrunner theme intact.

  • When ABC lost the rights to "THE BUGS BUNNY SHOW" in 1968, CBS (who had scheduled "THE ROAD RUNNER SHOW" since 1966)- or rather, Fred Silverman, the executive in charge of the network's Saturday morning schedule- decided to de-emphasize "superhero" cartoons [because of the growing outcry by parents' groups against violence in those shows] by returning to "funny animal" shows {and an emphasis on "teen-age" comedy, like "ARCHIE"}...combining Bugs AND the Road Runner into ONE hour-long weekly show.

  • Ahh, nothing like the brassy roar of the Warner Bros. orchestra! Especially during the cartoons before the mid-1950s, when Carl Stalling was directing the music.

  • Ja bym chciał (i nie tylko ja) aby w Polsce jakaś TV wyemitowała znów jak kiedyś blok kreskówej "The Bugs Bunny Show" w wersji z lektorem Andrzejem Matulem. To właśnie te bajki z The Bugs Bunny Show były najlepsze jakie zostały zrobione przez WB.

  • I was watched this in 68, so I know it was on the air. In one shape or form, this show began in 1960, and became the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner show by combining two half hour shows in 1968. This show was the ONLY reason to get up on Saturday mornings.

  • I thought the "Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour" began around 1975, not 1968.

  • Wiley Coyote can't die! He just get hurt over and over gain. No Health Insurance for him.

  • gdzie można ściagnąc odcinki ??? tylko nie Zwariowane melodie te po 6 min, tylko własnie the Bugs Bunny show.????

  • @89Ziomek

W Polsce tandeta i tyle.

  • How come Porky Pig is never shown in the cartoon march?

  • @RatBatSpiderCrab You are so right. Poor Porky got dissed.

  • is there a episode where coyote wins?

  • Comment removed

  • As a kid i always watched to see coyote get that smart ass road runner, lol.

  • The best opening ever for the best cartoon series ever.

  • I've also seen the verson with Road Runner marching across the stage with the rest of the Looney Tunes characters. For some apparent reason Road Runner was removed. However, at the end of the intro, Road Runner makes its apparence with puller the lever for the lights. Does anyone have any information about why Road Runner was removed and why?

  • I forgot all about that Road Runner song, but hearing it now, I totally remember it. Wow what a flashback.

  • What the hell ever happened to Bugs Bunny???? An iconic cartoon character that just disappears?

  • @sldl04 - It's the greedy Time-Warner Co. They pulled the entire Warner cartoon library out of circulation on TV in order to make money on sales from videos, and they are anal about their PROPERTIES appearing here on YT. I read somewhere that someone was in a video store and saw an elementary school kid asking his parents, "What's Looney Tunes?"

  • @AshburnStadium Well, I think as of now, we don't have to worry about these characters fading from obscurity. The original Looney Tunes shorts have been back in reruns since March on Cartoon Network, AND they have a new show. I personally like it, I don't know about you, it's much different than the original (which of course I would always prefer) though. But the new show still does justice for me, especially since it helps renews kids' interests in the looney tunes franchise

  • when we had these toons the violence was funny , we never went around shooting up schools or whatever , we had real looking toy guns , bad ass GI joes , transformers and the 80's... now we got barney and 70 dead friends , i shed a tear

  • Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Bugs Bunny & Road Runner, Scooby Doo, Superfriends, Tom and Jerry and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. You libs grew up on it too so why are you so fucked up.

  • @DarthSideous63 i grew up in the 70's too, and i'm a liberal. i'm not screwed up. i just think healthcare should be a right, i don't think kids should go hungry(kids can't help their parents), and supply side economics don't work(look at the last 30 years). taxes are a necessary evil, i don't love giving my money to the gov't, i just think the rich need to pay their fair share if that makes me screwed up, i'm sorry.

  • what i wouldn't give to live in a town like mayberry and watch toons like this........

  • How the fuck did you find this?

  • @SongsJerome it looks like the roadrunner song was a video tape and they recorded that and posted it here because i have some of that old stuff too

  • @losemothergoose You mean VHS archives?

  • You know what? I never grew up watching this show, but watching this intro makes me feel very nostalgic, as if there has always been something missing in my childhood...

  • I feel sorry for children nowadays. The cartoons in the 70s were magic, today you get crap.

  • @fressen I'll take it a step further and go 70's to mid 80's cartoons great,90's to now absolutely sucks harder than a Kirby commercial vacuum cleaner, lol.

  • @fressen go back to 40 and there is only pure art :)

  • @fressen nah u know why all the ginius are gone cus computer is now the best and most of them turned into com game maker

  • @fressen if you mean Looney Tunes, they're not 60s, but rather 30s to 50s. 60s to mid-80s actually weren't good times for cartoons, either theatrical or tv. the best cartoon series from this period are from Japan. the 90s is where it's at for TV animation!

  • @fressen

.............P.S.A's every five seconds, morals every 10 seconds, and these classics were hacked and slashed liked mad, oh yea, us 90s kids really got hosed (rolls eyes).

  • This will always be the all-time best Saturday morning show. If I had to watch what they show on Saturday mornings now, I'd grow up to be a serial killer.

  • It's a mystery to me why people like Road Runner cartoons so much. Why would anyone get a big kick out of a cartoon that never has much of a story behind it?

  • @Stephen10528

Seeing what hairbrained schemes the Coyote would try and then laughing at his epic failure is the why well to me at least!

  • This theme song is okay, but it doesn't compare to the theme song of the 1970 version of Tom & Jerry.

  • So was there ever a long version of the later version of this opening number? The one where Bugs, Daffy, and the rest are in tuxedos?

  • Anyone living in or near Canada with access to CBC and either CBS or ABC had double the bunny fun on Saturdays during the early 70s - the morning edition was on U.S. television while CBC carried the BB/RR-H at 5:00 PM. According to Kevin McCorry's tribute site, the CBC episodes were the original 26 hour shows first aired on CBS in 1968-69 that were repeated constantly through 1975.

2011 Is The Year Of The Rabbit!

  • @Mcnzlea

I remember BBRRH at 5pm on CBC, and having to watch CBC Curling Classic before it..talk about agony having to watch curling, waiting for Bugs to come on!

  • @GREGMCKEE The only time we would come in on saturday afternoon was to see this at 5:00 on CBC! Hamburgers and chocolate milk! any one remember shake n bake for beef?

  • this pwns tom and jerry

  • I find it a little humorous how they can cut up classic cartoons like this citing they are too violent...yet....cartoon network has no problem showing anime cartoons that have blood and death and other cartoons like the new star wars the clone wars..which is violent way beyond normal.

  • I miss waking up on Saturday mornings to watch this!

  • Used to watch this on KPIX-5 on Saturday mornings. Now, I wonder--do they even show cartoons on Saturdays anymore? And if they do--are they really better than this?

Or did a bunch of us live in a golden age of Saturday mornings?

  • The best,... cartoons was so good then. what happened

  • Saturday mornings in the 1960"s...cereal commercials, toy commercials, great cartoons, and outside playing by 1230pm!!!

  • I spent many Saturday mornings in front of the TV watching Bugs Bunny & Road Runner. Great memories.

  • Me tooooooo

    Where are the real cartoons?

  • This brings back so many memories!! Whatever happend to to real cartoons!!!

  • this brings back memories of many saturdays watching this on CFPL-TV London, Canada.

  • Thanks for sharin' the comfort food. It was nice to visit with a childhood friend.

  • when saturday mornings didn,t suck like today

  • thank you soooo much for posting this....i can remember watching this every saturday mournings...right before going to boy scout meetings...when life was good...im now in my 50s...and life sucks.

  • Whatever happen to great saturday morning cartoons?

  • i know what you mean...

  • Watching things like this makes me feel nostalgic.

  • makes me cry...

  • I always hated the Road Runner, asshole bird.

  • Amen to all the sentiments given!! Compare the cartoons. Bugs Bunny & RoadRunner vs SpongeBob & Dora. If anyone can give a legitimate reason how these new cartoons are better than the old ones, I will shout from the rooftops that SpongeBob is a god.

  • Now, if I could only find the original credits from the original BB-RR hour-i'd be a very happy cartoon fan

  • It's been years since I saw this opening.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • Well, it's no Pokemon...

    Thank God.

  • All this whining about violence in Bugs cartoons. I say "LET'S HAVE MORE VIOLENCE!" Get the gun closer to Daffy Duck's bill. Show the coyote being shredded to bits when he hits the bottom of the valley. The possibilities are endless. And to all of you fucking whiners out there - tell me the shit kids watch today is less violent. I dare you.

  • @tritonrocks WORD BROTHER!!! I remember watching cartoon network when all the good shit was on and the pete puma bugs bunny episode was on my fav

i was so excited to show my little boys at the time and when it came to the how many lumps do u want the footage was cut so u couldnt see the head blows

    i was so pissed

thank god they restored footage for dvd release

  • @dadadruma Will that be one lump or two? Classic stuff! Thank goodness for YouTube and other venues where the original, unedited versions live on!

  • @tritonrocks : A-fuckin-MEN!

    Libs. They wreck everything.

  • @tritonrocks no less violent today, i can tell you...but not as cheerfully fun.

  • *sigh* - now THIS is what Saturday mornings are supposed to be - good cartoons that were just fun. Today, Saturday morning network TV is just a dumping ground for them to fulfill their E/I requirements.

Thanks for sharing this - takes me back to a better time.

  • Anybody remember the '8 is enough' episode where the Bradford family sang the Bugs Bunny overture (This is it). God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg I never saw it on 8 is enough, at least I don't think so, but I remember Jerry singing it on Seinfeld.

  • the best part of being a kid in those days was saturday cartoons what the heck happened?

  • they must have used this opening for later years also because i remember watching this after 1968

  • I'd seen a closing of this some years ago from 1968 and noted that supporting voice credits were actually issued in television showings, usually restricted to theatricals, and of course in the prior decade [in the fifties] and before one was very lucky to even have any voice credit besides Mel Blanc, much like explosions are lucky to be on at all..

  • It is ashame they no longer have the Saturday Morning cartoons. Kids today dont know what they are missing. The garbage they show now is horrible. I did not go outside on saturday's until 12pm...After some lucky charms, and tang, and ALL my favorite cartoons went off. Saturday mornings are just terrible now...

  • if they would show this on Saturday mornings now I would stay home from work and watch it :-)

  • Road Runner:Beep Beep

Bugs:Oh no you don't this show belongs to both you, me and the coyote.

    Road Runner:Beep Beep

  • It wasn't Saturday morning w/o The Bugs Bunnny Road Runner Show!

  • And to think, they took many early versions of the coyote falling and getting blown up off because they said it was " TOO VIOLENT" THAT WAS SO RIDICULIOUS. Look at the filth and violence they put on Saturday morning now.

  • @USAFreedomReform What Saturday Mornings? It's only "Toonzai", Disney Channel Reruns on ABC, and educational stuff on CBS and NBC. And FOX saturdays are dead.

  • @NinJutsuDude1997 U SAID:What Saturday Mornings?

I SAID:Real Saturday Morning Cartoons as when I was a kid growing up in the 1970's.Todays garbage makes no sense and is fill with suggestions of witchcraft, fashion statements, kids arguing with one another, etc. I can't speak of what goes on on NBC,ABC,or FOX,because after the commie digital TV signal change over,I only get CBS and PBS.What a choice! By the way,I still receive my signal on UHF/VHF antenna as free TV.I will not pay to watch TV.

  • @USAFreedomReform I was only joking. And I agree, most of the stuff isn't freaking awesome or innocent anymore. It's Fart jokes and crap (Nick and Disney Channel). The only good animated stuff is CN.

  • @NinJutsuDude1997 ohhhh,Sorry,I missed the joke, but you are exactly right.

  • The Bugs bunny-Road Runner Hour 1968-1971;1974-1985

  • Love it!

  • Beep Beep

  • Beep Beep

  • I remembered the first half, but had totally forgotten the Roadrunner song! I think years of my childhood just came back to me! Thanks for posting this!

  • @ZombieADL -- They were both seperate

shows-- Bugs Bunny show & the road runner show -- in 1968 they merged as

one in an hour show that lasted twelve to

    thirteen years.

  • YES !! I have been looking for this exact thing for a long time !!! Thanks !!

  • Do you have episodes or end credits to this? Great job by the way.

  • This was shown up to 1975 on CBC in Canada, Saturday afternoons at 5 PM.

  • Finally a decent upload of this why-must-this-be-so-bloody-rare childhood memory!

  • Looking for my blanket and pillow...:) Unfortunately kids nowadays will never know what it was like to get up early Saturday Morning and eat a bowl of Sugar Crisps while watching these cartoons. No microwave, just cold cereal till mom got up. Sigh... What great memories... Thanks for posting...

  • Oh, man, a Tidal Wave of Nostalgia just hit me!
