So many comments about cartoons being crap today. When we (people born in the seventies like me) were kids, we didn't have cartoon network, or 800 channels to choose from for that matter. We had three or four channels. NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX which was just beginning. Even cable TV only had about 30 channels with one HBO, Showtime, TMC, Cinemax, and Disney channel. I think only the best was aired So much compitition out there has watered down TV. Good cartoons are few and far between.
Reminds me of Saturday mornings in front of the TV with a big bowl of Cap'n Crunch,Froot Loops or any other high-octane sugary cereal and enjoying being a kid. Those were some great times back in the days.
Great! Brings back a lot of happy memories. I agree with other posts here stating how bad Saturday morning TV is today. Sure glad I was a kid back then.
I really enjoy all the doucher's below that were worried about the animation! The focus of any cartoon starring Bugs and the rest of the gang is humor,Beavis and Butthead are terrible to look at but funny the same goes for South Park. The old Pink panther shows and episodes were not so good animation but the damn show was funny, humor is key.Japanimation is the same amount of retarded as Godzilla or mothra, stupid plot's and never funny,I've never seen a funny Japanese cartoon, has anybody?
Of course the focus is humor. And animation is a huge part of the humor. The difference between good and bad animation is often the difference between a laugh and a dead silence. And no, animation doesn't have to be smooth or even attractive to be funny (like Beavis and Butthead), but it has to be tailored to fit whatever it's trying to get across. If it isn't, and if it's just full of shortcuts and unskilled cheats, then it's going to deplete the writing no matter how funny it is.
Bugs Bunny's animation is pretty bad at 0:47 - 0:55. This was mostly done by Bil Hendricks' crew at Warner Bros. Animation (with Alex Lovy as director, and animators La Verne Harding, Volvus Jones, Ted Bonnicksen and Ed Solmon, these four animators later went to work for Filmation and H-B afterward.) Most of their cartoons featured Cool Cat, or Merlin the Magic Mouse
When ABC lost the rights to "THE BUGS BUNNY SHOW" in 1968, CBS (who had scheduled "THE ROAD RUNNER SHOW" since 1966)- or rather, Fred Silverman, the executive in charge of the network's Saturday morning schedule- decided to de-emphasize "superhero" cartoons [because of the growing outcry by parents' groups against violence in those shows] by returning to "funny animal" shows {and an emphasis on "teen-age" comedy, like "ARCHIE"}...combining Bugs AND the Road Runner into ONE hour-long weekly show.
Ahh, nothing like the brassy roar of the Warner Bros. orchestra! Especially during the cartoons before the mid-1950s, when Carl Stalling was directing the music.
Ja bym chciał (i nie tylko ja) aby w Polsce jakaś TV wyemitowała znów jak kiedyś blok kreskówej "The Bugs Bunny Show" w wersji z lektorem Andrzejem Matulem. To właśnie te bajki z The Bugs Bunny Show były najlepsze jakie zostały zrobione przez WB.
I was watched this in 68, so I know it was on the air. In one shape or form, this show began in 1960, and became the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner show by combining two half hour shows in 1968. This show was the ONLY reason to get up on Saturday mornings.
W Polsce tandeta i tyle.
I've also seen the verson with Road Runner marching across the stage with the rest of the Looney Tunes characters. For some apparent reason Road Runner was removed. However, at the end of the intro, Road Runner makes its apparence with puller the lever for the lights. Does anyone have any information about why Road Runner was removed and why?
@sldl04 - It's the greedy Time-Warner Co. They pulled the entire Warner cartoon library out of circulation on TV in order to make money on sales from videos, and they are anal about their PROPERTIES appearing here on YT. I read somewhere that someone was in a video store and saw an elementary school kid asking his parents, "What's Looney Tunes?"
@AshburnStadium Well, I think as of now, we don't have to worry about these characters fading from obscurity. The original Looney Tunes shorts have been back in reruns since March on Cartoon Network, AND they have a new show. I personally like it, I don't know about you, it's much different than the original (which of course I would always prefer) though. But the new show still does justice for me, especially since it helps renews kids' interests in the looney tunes franchise

@fressen if you mean Looney Tunes, they're not 60s, but rather 30s to 50s. 60s to mid-80s actually weren't good times for cartoons, either theatrical or tv. the best cartoon series from this period are from Japan. the 90s is where it's at for TV animation!

I'd seen a closing of this some years ago from 1968 and noted that supporting voice credits were actually issued in television showings, usually restricted to theatricals, and of course in the prior decade [in the fifties] and before one was very lucky to even have any voice credit besides Mel Blanc, much like explosions are lucky to be on at all..
It is ashame they no longer have the Saturday Morning cartoons. Kids today dont know what they are missing. The garbage they show now is horrible. And to think, they took many early versions of the coyote falling and getting blown up off because they said it was " TOO VIOLENT" THAT WAS SO RIDICULIOUS. Look at the filth and violence they put on Saturday morning now.
@USAFreedomReform What Saturday Mornings? It's only "Toonzai", Disney Channel Reruns on ABC, and educational stuff on CBS and NBC. And FOX saturdays are dead.
I SAID:Real Saturday Morning Cartoons as when I was a kid growing up in the 1970's.Todays garbage makes no sense and is fill with suggestions of witchcraft, fashion statements, kids arguing with one another, etc. I can't speak of what goes on on NBC,ABC,or FOX,because after the commie digital TV signal change over,I only get CBS and PBS.What a choice! By the way,I still receive my signal on UHF/VHF antenna as free TV.I will not pay to watch TV.
@USAFreedomReform I was only joking. And I agree, most of the stuff isn't freaking awesome or innocent anymore. It's Fart jokes and crap (Nick and Disney Channel). The only good animated stuff is CN.
I remembered the first half, but had totally forgotten the Roadrunner song! I think years of my childhood just came back to me! Thanks for posting this!
Looking for my blanket and pillow...:) Unfortunately kids nowadays will never know what it was like to get up early Saturday Morning and eat a bowl of Sugar Crisps while watching these cartoons. No microwave, just cold cereal till mom got up. Sigh... What great memories... Thanks for posting...

@USAFreedomReform What Saturday Mornings? It's only "Toonzai", Disney Channel Reruns on ABC, and educational stuff on CBS and NBC. And FOX saturdays are dead.

@NinJutsuDude1997 U SAID:What Saturday Mornings?

@ZombieADL -- They were both seperate
shows-- Bugs Bunny show & the road runner show -- in 1968 they merged as
one in an hour show that lasted twelve to
thirteen years.
