great album 100% the accoustic songs are so touching!!! i have lost alot of loved ones and 2 of the songs are so touching and personal with the lyrics!! well done pearl jam!! great music!
It is called evolving I think they are doing it the right way straight forward story telling rock.people change so do circumstances early 20;s to mid 40's alot changes.I love the new stuff.
wtf? This sounds as much like AC as Iggy sounds like Abba. Great song, and AC did some too - notably Unpublished Critics, but this ain't NOTHIN' like them.
The fact Pearl Jam are giving me more of a thrill than ever says something.
Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, Yield, Binaural were all fuckin' brilliant albums... but Backspacer is still absolutely brilliant and proof that the older they get, they're still one of the greatest bands ever to grace us.
This is a really good new album and I do enjoy all the songs..it's definitely better than their last album.. however it's not a patch on their older stuff.. even the more recent older albums (e.g. Binaural etc.) are far better. shit it's been nearly ten years already since that was released..where does the time go? Either way Vs., Ten and Yield can't be touched, but at least they're still going strong.. PJ for ever!
This album is a masterpiece. Everyone always claims PJ's older stuff is better, and while I won't argue that Ten was absolutely amazing I have to say that Vs is probably their most overrated album by far. I'm glad to see you're giving Yield some love though.
I do think it is good. But I gotta disagree about Vs. By far my favourite album, the lil' gems such as Rats and WMA just make it for me. It's just too slick. Gotta love the Yield though :D
@ColonelMayonnaise Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and I'll be shocked if this ever changes. But of all their albums, Yield is in my bottom three. Just as all their albums have a unique and distinctive sound, Yield's sound isn't my kind of sound. Although I will say Do the Evolution is incredibly sick on their Live on Two Legs album.
@mrmenglish1 That's cool man, to each his own. Even though I'm not blown over by Vs. It still has some great tracks on it. Indifference, Go, Daughter and Dissident are all fantastic. I love PJ. I've got my tickets to see them in K.C. on May 3rd.
@koulgurl right on. I love No Code. "Who You Are" "Present Tense" and "Around the Bend" are some of my all time favorite PJ songs. Plus McCready's guitar riffs on "Red Mosquito" are absolutely sick.
I have to disagree. I think Vs is their most consistent and raw album to date. Go, Blood, WMA, Rats, Indifference, Animal. The whole album is amazing, so damn heavy and sounds like it could've been recorded yesterday. Ten is obviously a great album, but I think it's very dated in comparison to Vs, despite only being released two years prior to it. For me personally, it's all about Vs, Yield and No Code. And although Backspacer and Avacado are great, don't beat 91 - 2000 IMO.
@ColonelMayonnaise I know what ya mean. A lot of people into rock/metal etc are pretty stubborn and never accept change. What they don't know is that if you embrace it what's on the other side is so much better. Diversity is the spice of life ;)
I listened to this album before I saw them live, and kind of regretted it later, but I couldn't wait! But I think it would've been more fun if I had heard the songs live first, cuz I wouldn't really know what to expect.
Well., apparently it vaires a lot. Like, they had two shows here, and we went to the second one. In the first one they played a bunch of mellow songs, and in the second night, they played their more heavy stuff. But they didn't play a lot of their most popular song (e.g. Even Flow, Alive, etc...)
I don't get how could anybody not like this song. Really. I heard a lot of comments of people saying they loved every song from Backspacer EXCEPT Johnny Guitar.
In my opinion the problem is actually the title of the song, not a very fortunate one. As a matter of fact, many people already hated JG when Backspacer was still not available, just because Johnny Guitar was so unlikely to be the name of any Pearl Jam song.
To me is a great tune, fuckin catchy, and awesome as anything PJ does.

the absolute worst song on the album. The new album is great and I have listened to it so many times I can't count, but this song is the only skip it song......
I love this song... I can't stand listening to Just Breathe. I think it's the way Ed jumps his voice in the beginning of every line. Just isn't something I'm used to.
Hey redwingchamp, judging by your comment, you probably suck something, but it's definetly not ass. Back to this song and band, they still rock and this song is one of the album's best.
This is my favorite of Backspacer

The best from beggining to end:
1980s U2 - Unforgettable Fire Echo & The Bunneymen - Ocean Rain Pixies-Doolittle
1990s: Soundgarden - Superunknown (sorry - the only grunge I liked)
2000s (?-still up for grabs).
2010s Pearl Jam - Backspacer
