I grew up in the greater NYC area 50's/60's and recall a RFE psa showing a family huddled around a radio inside their small, humble abode. There was a crashing at the door - then you saw was the lower half of a soldier coming through the door -fast, while the family hugged each other in fear, wide eyed, looking up to the soldier. We had B&W TV, can't say the color of the uniform - looked 'Eastern Block'. 3/4 length coat/boots.The soldier, barking orders, smashes radio.
Now we have a whole generation of people who have no idea what all this was about, and how crucial it was to so many people in simply helping them to have hope..
It was in B&W and began with a guy getting up in the middle of the night & walking through the empty streets on Manhattan to RFE . He sits down, puts an LP on the turntable and says in some heavy European accent - "Ze Dreefters - Un Browdvay" and the Drifters begin to sing.
I have remembered it all this time and would love to see it again. It's been years since I have seen it, but it was so moody that I have remembered it for 45 years now.

There is an earlier version of this from the 60s.
