  • that was great !

  • yes, for example people order ladybugs for gardens (they eat/deter other pests) and butterflies for either gardens or weddings (to release all together), i've heard of mail ordering tropical fish, and larvae are mailed for kits like we did in the video. you'll probably see those packages most frequently in the spring when temps are moderate, they don't tend to ship during extreme cold or heat.

  • man, yours really jumped around. Mine didnt move too much after they when into the cacoon. Thsi is so awesome isn't. Thats an interesting way of doing the bottom. I didnt think about that. I am going to do that next time. Are you going to do it again. I am! FOr sure!!!

  • just watched this with my class and we loved it. a good preview for what we are going to see with our butterflies.

  • we also got a kit. Ours are in cocoons now. I'm not sure where to find the plants for them when they hatch. I heard that if you put an orange slice with sugar water they will eat that. You did a wonderful job documeting your project!

  • we put sugar water on flowers, the directions had the recommended sugar-water proportion. i'm sure your idea is equally good. thank you for watching our video :)

  • That was an excellent video!

We have a kit too, our son is very excited about our project. Four out of five have hatched, we'll be releasing them after the weekend. :-)

You did a great job documenting your project!

  • i ordered and i have been waiting for like almost 4 weeks when will it arrive?

  • call and check on your order status

  • i want a set!! where did you get yours?

  • got ours at target dot com, got one for my nephew at walmart, seen it on amazon, and probably available directly from the insect lore website.

  • that was pretty cool video. I like that. I work at insect lore in small town called Shafter, ca.

  • excellent, and thank you. we got the catalog in the mail, he wants either frogs or praying mantis eggs for his birthday this year. can i use the butterfly enclosure for the praying mantis?

  • Nice! I work at Insect Lore too. Guess who?

  • One of my butterflies just emerged, how long will it take to start feeding? I crumpled a small piece of paper towel and droped sugar water on it, but it is just sitting there.

  • Sorry I only just noticed your comment. Insectlore dot com should have answers to all your questions.

  • It is alright, I solved that already. I released the butterflies yesterday. But on of them has wings that didn't develop properly so I'm keeping it as a pet.

  • I have found what appear to be severed caterpillar heads in my cup. Is this normal?

  • Yes! That freaked me out when I saw them so I looked into it. They are supposed to shed that part.

  • I have the same thing as you! Right now my caterpillars are getting ready to pupate. They only make major movement when I'm not looking lol

  • once the first one is in the chrysallis, watch to see it defend itself by spinning and shaking if another one goes near it. that was really cool, and the most movement we saw the entire time. thanks for the comment!

  • I have a problem. Last night my kitten knocked the caterpillar cup fell onto the floor. When I picked them up, 2 of the 3 caterpillars that were preparing to pupate had fallen off the lid! And they are still in a curled position. Will they climb back up or will they change in the position they are in? One of them fell on the floor and the other is suspended by the silk.

  • Don't answer that. They are cocooning anyway.

  • in the countryside or on the plant called budlea ofc

  • *sniffle* i have to admit it, you did REALLY good, i didn't even do as good as you, with my painted ladies, cause, one of my caterpillars fell of the paper disk, and it died! *cries alot*

  • Thanks, we had fun with it! InsectLore . com has detailed instructions, I remember reading that once all of them are ready to be transferred you gently place the detached one on a paper towel at the bottom of the habitat and it should be fine.

  • YOU HAVE MADE LIFE!

That was a very nice video. I DO NOT approve though of the butterflies doing the naughty...at least post a warning!

  • thats great! Where do you get those?!?!

  • Thank you! The kit is from Insect Lore and we ordered it from Target's website (it's also on Amazon) -Kellie
