  • Sing on, Mariah... you feed my soul. And, thank you, Stevie!

  • This is what, my 30th time (literally) watching this since discovering it a few hours ago? Lol omg that tribute was amazing! Thank u, Mariah :-) That's a Stevie song? I never heard it (let alone HIS rendition) before! I never knew HE could go that low....wow...the world's greatest, indeed

  • Mariah's low register is just unmatchable and plus, she sang with so much grace and passion here.

  • mariah is very smart. she made a song that he sings very good. she makes a concept is not boring. her style is. I heard her songs and I think she's always out melisma at the beginning of the song and then she shot the high notes perfectly. she mixed melisma, falsetto, whistle, and a high voice. This truly remarkable

  • so awesomeeeee! she has a high quality!

  • Why don't people ever give her the credit she deserves?! She is truly underrated. She's one of those artists that won't be fully appreciated and celebrated until after her death (besides lambs and non-ignorant people).

  • Mariah is a undoubtedly a very talented singer but her treatment of this song does not have the power of the original.... but who does? Makes you realise what an exceptionally powerful and emotional vocal Stevie has - btw this has been one of my favourite songs since it was orginally the 'b'side to I Wish - not really a b side as it is a song worthy of attention in itself...

  • THe Greatest Women singer and women Legend that has ever Lived, or created.. Charles Ryan Thornton Forever and always..

  • I love Mariah... but why do i want a singer that can sing all the perfect notes but still doesn't move any kind of emotion on me? this is not about mariah but i do think that Michael Buble's version of this song is A LOT BETTER

  • Sorry but her voice lacks the timbre necessary for this song, her low notes are especially "thin". Michael Bublé sings a much better version.

  • @MrPhunurius Ur kiddin, right? Her timbre is perfectly suited fo this song..what other women would be more confortable singing in in this key...let's see, NO woman!! as she's pretty much singing 2nd tenor..Please!!

  • Omg I have the top comments again!! I have about 20 top comments around YouTube. I NEED A GRAMMY NOW LOL

  • Her Low notes incomparable..<3

  • so low! the quality of her voice is just top notch! not a lot of females can sing that low. Even though her voice is not as superb as before she still can outsing many singers out there.

  • I love her smile at the end :))

  • 4:47 And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will always loooove youuuuuuuuuUUUuu XD

  • LOOK AT SONGS LIKE "MINE AGAIN" , "INSEPARABLE" OR "OH, COME ALL YE FAITHFUL" MARIAH CAN CLEARLY STILL RIP A SONG.

  • COME ON PEOPLE IF SHE CAN HIT A F#7 ON THE "H.A.T.E.U." REMIX, I BELIEVE SHE CAN STILL HIT A G7. SHE STILL HAS THE RANGE AND TONE SHE'S BEEN HAD, BUT IF YOU FOLLOWED HER THROUGHOUT THE YEARS YOU WOULD KNOW THAT ONLY HER STYLE OF SINGING HAS CHANGED WITH THE CHANGES OF MUSIC DURING THOSE TIMES. SHE IS JUST ADAPTING TO THE CHANGES OF MUSIC, IT WOULD THROW PEOPLE OFF IF SHE STARTED SINGING BLUES AGAIN LIKE SHE DID WHEN SHE FIRST CAME OUT, AND EVERYONE ELSE IS IN THE POP / R&B PHASE

  • @miguelharris1991 she's always been pop/r&b. When did she start singing blues?? Huh?

  • (CONTINUED). LISTEN TO "LONG AGO" BY MARIAH OR EVEN "CHARLIE BROWN CRHISTMAS" BY MARIAH. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE WHO BEYONCE WAS INSPIRED BY. NOW BACK TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND. IM TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING MARIAH CAN'T SING SHE PROVED HERSELF WITH THE NEW CHRISTMAS ALBUM SHE STILL HAS THE CHOPS SHE HAS BEEN HAD. EVEN SHE SAID IT IN THE LARRY KING INTERVIEW, THAT SHE CAN STILL SING LIKE SHE USED TO BUT SHE DOESN'T LIKE TO BELT OUT A WHOLE SONG IT'S BORING TO HER.

  • SHE A STRAIGHT BEAST, IF THAT LITTLE RUN AT 4:51 DIDN'T MAKE YOU HAPPY, YOU HAVE NO MUSICAL BONE IN YOUR BODY. CAUSE THE KILLED THAT RUN, IF YOU FOLLOWED HER FROM THE BEGINNING YOU WOULD KNOW MARIAH WAS THE FIRST KNOWN FOR HER INCOMPARABLE MELISMAS AND VOCAL ACROBATICS, SHE WAS THE FIRST TO BRING THAT STYLE TO THE R&B REALM BUT MOST PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW THAT. BEYONCE WAS INSPIRED BY MARIAH'S MELISMAS, YOU CAN HER IT WHEN SHE DOES THEM, ITS ALMOST THE SAME TECHNIQUE AS MARIAH'S. NEED PROOF

  • @miguelharris1991 So so right, you are. Plus that little thing she added at 4:12 was "en point"...

  • @miguelharris1991 agree with you. let me know what a note in the begining of this song?unbelievable

  • One of her best performances of the 2000's. Period.

  • Killer performance. I actually met her this same month she sang live here. This was back in October of 2002. Me + 50 lucky fans got a sneak-preview of her album Charmbracelet + a meet & greet with her at the studio in Miami, FL.

  • lol at 1:09 she looks like she's thinking "did ya'll here how low i went?". at 1:18 she's like "what about then?" then from 2:22 to 2:26 she's like "oh ya'll tryna sleep on my voice, i know i'm getting it"

  • Comment removed

  • damn, she's singing the same key as stevie, that's incredible <3.

  • Gooooosebumps through out the whole song haha!

  • Omgggg, I love this woman SO much <3.

    THE BEST FOREVER.

  • OMGoodness, that note @ 2:18 :O

I Love this woman so much!!!

"Own a personal note": I wanna be able to sing this to someone, its just finding that person...."whoever St.Valentine was I hope he died alone surrounded by couples!" I need to find my Dreamlover.

  • she've always loved stevie! This live was a dream came true for her! :)

  • The low register is absolutely amazing.... how can you not appreciate that even if you hate her? Give credit where it is due.

  • the low notes.............. so low..

  • not my favorite performance of hers.

  • her low registers are simply simply awesome... you would just want to sit back and listen to her... so relaxing...

  • Wow her low notes are so rich and powerful

  • I don't know who doesn't like this song but I think he's stupid sorry!!!!! Mariah still the best <3

  • Mariah Carey .... SNM <3

  • Do u have the mp3. and if so could u send it to me

  • justin timberlake looks and sounds so awkward here

  • Hope Stevie Wonder lives forever!!! ;) He will!!

    Mariah Carrey absolutely dominates!!!

what's that at 4:13!!! My god!!!

  • @gamaro74 It's called the whistle register. The SUUUUUUUPER head voice.

  • @nicecarl5555 Thanks, I didn't know that, I've noticed just in one song or two, must be rare to achieve this kind of register, not for all for shure. Regards.

  • Hope Stevie Wonder lives forever!!! ;) He will!!

    Mariah Carrey absolutely dominates!!!

  • Her tone is so rich.... Like.... Its sooooo amazing. I have NO WORDS

  • @BestFloozie i´m totally woth you! really pity

  • wow, what a voice range she used to have...ok, this was 9 years ago. today she cannot sing the way like on this video, pity. she was a really great singer.

  • @buddybringiton she can sing like that!!if she is rested she can do whatever she wants and besides she never lost control of her low notes!!

  • @buddybringiton I think If you listen to O come all ye faithful at Christmas in Washington. She seems to have recovered her buttery tone. God bless her.

  • MY GOD that was such a great tribute!!!

  • @BestFloozie it's sad that you think that. mariah and her team pick how they want to do a song, the tone, pich, and more.

  • Its simple performances like these that make Mariah Carey a regal figure in music history.

  • @BestFloozie she can still do it and more!

  • 181 likes. 0 dislikes.

add more likes. don't bother clicking on dislike. youd get your finger cut off. :-)

  • @DanielAlexis17 182 with me!

  • When was it? Oh yeah in 2002! 1 year before people were killing her, saying her carreer was over and that she couldnt come back... Charmbracelet, The Emancipation, E=MC², Memoirs, Merry Xmas II You... I guess they were wrong..!

  • Fantastic! After hearing it you just wanna hear more and more... Amazing!

  • Best mariah ever ^^ <3

  • Her lower register is just tremendously amazing! @alibyrne7 why does there need to be any negativity? :S

  • Doesn't anyone have anything bad to say about this? Or have bad comments all been deleted? I cannot deny that Mariah Carey has the voice and the range but, in my opinion, Stevie's song is complex in it's chords and doesn't need all of this complexity in the melody. The way he sang it was effortless and this is a little too much.

  • @alibyrne7 Well Mariah is the most comfortable singing lower register, she's an alto after all and is singing this without much efford I'd guess.

  • @TheNecrolicious Not really. The most comfortable register to sing is the modal register (speaking voice) and hers starts around D3. --Also, she is not an alto. She is a mezzo-soprano. She hasn't mastered going below B2 (alto bottom), she loses breath support and neutral larynx.

  • @rekupp As we know, Mariah has done and still can do plenty of B2 notes and sustain and sing words too in the B2 notes and descend down to a B2, A2 even a G#2 like water. and also she does A2 very very well and also G#2 she stretches it down to an E2. Haven't you heard her Radio clip from 2008 where she demonstrates a G#2? she definantely has mastered all of her register. from G#2-G#7 live to in studio E2-G#7 she can probably stretch it down to a D2 and a B7 but she's not a showoff..

  • @DanielAvilaAGT I am well aware of her range. She has hit E2s in the studio recordings of "My All" and "Bliss", but this is not her comfort range. She is not a contralto. People are confusing her weird "whispering" for lower register notes.

  • @rekupp she really comfort with it.

  • Mariah is a mezzo

  • @ernest671 She's naturally an alto. You can say by hearing her speaking voice

  • Anyway, gorgeous tone

  • Her interpretation of the song is vocally amazing. Her low register is very dark and warm and the legatos were still wonderfully smooth and the melismas were not overly done. THis is a voca master class!!!!!

  • GODES!!!!!!!!

  • This performance gives me faith in humanity.

  • I think she started too low on this song. She should have went a little higher! Yet she's awsome!

  • amo escucharte cantando esta cancion mc

  • Mariah killed this song! She's a fantabolous singer!!!! Words cannot express.

  • This performance is simply stunning. So raw and flawless.

  • Who was that talking in the beginning?

  • @broski520

    That's Justin Timberlake! :)

  • I would LOVE to hear the undubbed version !!!! somebody's got that plz??

  • who originally sung you and i

  • @19941994alex Stevie Wonder.

  • you'r my dear

  • With that voice you are allowed to be the biigest boogie B on the planet and get away with it . That is one hell of a voice . Chill Bumps

  • The general people only need to hear a few loud high notes and only then they give a standing ovation. But only the real knowledgeable persons like Simon Cowell,Stevie Wonder, etc know the nuances of great SINGING and that's why they think Mariah Carey is the best.

  • @mc1ate1mad1cow exactly...no offense and that's why some people put charice over other greatest singers and just because she executed some big notes, they think she is the best...love your comments

  • niesamowite

  • i dont like justin timberlake. he's such a poser.

    Waste!

  • @TwoDeux idk if he really is but that's what i was thinking when i saw him here...

  • AMAZING

  • She has the most amazing voice. But I still like MIchael Buble's version of this song

  • Lejos una de las mejores presentaciones de Mariah... junto con THE ONE en el concierto mtv dado en australia mis presentaciones favoritas

  • @tiko2285

    exactamente.lo dijiste todo.nene.nena.

  • Her lower register is equally as powerful and impressive as her whistle register.

  • shes singing from deep whithin and thats what singing is all about, it aint about the high notes or the perfect pitching...

  • Them's old Whitney notes @ 4:35 & 4:45. MC you is amazzzzzzzing!

  • Amazing, so effortless.

  • Chills! one of my favorite stevie songs done by one the best...only mariah -3

  • @Reneefah7 MArian Anderson had a really defined low range

  • @MCLambDahling3000 I know my altos honey

  • @Reneefah7 We're not talking about altos honey, we are talking about low notes, and you still haven't named any singers.

  • @MCLambDahling3000 altos sing low notes.......so what u talkin bout

  • @MCLambDahling3000 Well, there are other women who can sing lower but no as high as Mariah in chest voice! Without her falsetto and whistle register she has a huge 3 octave range!!!!

  • @Remalia19

Mariah´s lowest is E2, which woman can sing lower?

  • @Remalia19 actually is wider... from E2 to A5 without falsetto and whistle register

  • Beautiful ...............................
