I'll admit Gallagher's modern stuff hasn't been very good, but that's more because he's turned into a bitter old man. His older stuff was pretty good though. They portrayed him as some simple minded redneck that only smashes fruit. In reality he was pretty clever. His shows used to be about questioning the world, and challenging why things are the way they are. It's clear that no one at college humor has ever seen a Gallagher show.
