  • watched them all. nice job,i just finished mine and also did a photo documentation my son put a few on you tube under awesome oven. enjoy your creation

  • If you check my next video you'll see the chimney I'm planning to use and for the door I've salvaged a cast iron stove base from the recycle centre which I plan to cut to shape and hang using hook and band hinges.

  • Good luck with your project MervynDG and I hope you'll be posting it on YouTube ;)

I'm being guided by YouTube/internet searches and my own inexperience.

I reckon 8 inches of insulated concrete will be adequate beneath the oven but only time will tell. If you look at the early ovens, and a lot of the ones still in use in France today, this plan was based on them and they worked adequately without a "floating" base.

  • About to take the plunge myself so very timely

    Qs:

1/ What is guiding you? A book, a website, experience or?

2/ Most examples I've seen separate the inner oven from the outer so it can 'float' to allow for the expansion that will take place during use. It also provides a insulation cavity.

3/ Will you have a chimney?

4/ Where do you find a cast iron hinged door?

3/ Why not cast a one piece base from your own refactory mix?
